171. A Bit Stronger (Book Three)

here wasn’t a single sound that could be heard in his entire mansion at the moment, as all the workers who were usually present had been evacuated.

Even the area around the building was evacuated.

Only the Royal Guard was allowed to be nearby, and not even the Chiefs were there. In fact all 14 Chiefs were spread across the Dark Lands of Mir in a combat ready state as all 14 Clans were on heavy lockdown at the moment.

The Royal Guards were even in a particularly snippy mood, and this wouldn’t be the time to joke with any of them.

Thanks to Rick making sure to tell them when to retreat and Commander Meegra showing her skills in managing the entire group, not a single member of the Royal Guard had died during the year long mission at the front lines.

In fact across all 10 Groups, 3 different Goblins in total had managed to reach the Fourth Tier. They were likely already close before the battles began and all the fighting had been enough for them to advance.

No new groups were added and all groups remained with the same structure. In fact unless one of them reach the fifth Tier, it was long decided that there would be no changes for a while.

Though, despite all the fighting, it would still be some time until the rest of them managed to evolve. It simply wasn’t a quick process by any means, not for non-royal Goblins.

Anyway, there were all spread out around Rick’s mansion as they prepared to not even let a fly get past them due to the importance of what was soon to be taking place.

Rick was ready for his evolution.

Rick, who has now been in the Dark Lands of Mir for the past 1 year and 5 months was now currently sitting on the floor of his training room.

He was staring at the at the result of a full year of fighting on the front lines.

‘You know Velora…I really didn’t think this would take me a full year to accomplish. I mean I knew it would take a while, but a whole year? That was way too long.’

[Well we know why it happened. After the mole creature, there were no longer any appearances of anything above Tier Five on your front.]

‘Right? Even that was weird. Before that mole, three separate Tier Six beasts made themselves known, then all of a sudden, a Tier Seven mole came out of nowhere then there was just…nothing.

‘Of course all the other low tiered beasts still came, but I wonder what happened?’

[It’s hard to say, but the mole is the only common factor so likely something to do with it. Remember we noticed it acted a bit differently from the other beasts.]

‘Yea…it didn’t seem as crazy as the rest of them. Still crazy, just not as crazy. It actually ignored opponents that were right in front of it and aimed for me on more than one occasion.

‘That at least proves it had the ability to feel anger and then direct that anger. That shows a level of reasoning that the rest of them didn’t even come close to. I’m sure there’s something much deeper at play happening here.’

[Likely, but if there are multiple Tier Sevens waiting beyond the current reaches of Goblins, then it will be a long time before all that can be investigated properly.]

‘Then it’s about time I evolved. I need to evolve all the Chiefs.’

[And your prepared for that? The process described that a lot of your blood will be required for all 14 of them. In fact you will be severely weakened for quite some time after the process is over.

[That meant no exploring, no fighting, no training, and no earning more essence. For a while Rick. I’m not telling you not to do it, just a reminder of what it will require for you to do so.]

‘Trust me I know. But the requirement is the requirement. They need to consume my blood and use the power it contained to break through their natural barrier Tier Six. Without it, they would never be able to evolve.

‘Every single Goblin in the Dark Lands of Mir would jump if I told them to, would fight I told them, would kill if I told them, would die…if I told them to.

‘Being bedridden for a few months is nowhere near enough to repay that level of loyalty and commitment.’

  [I understand.]

‘Thank you…well then. Let’s finally evolve shall we.’

And so Rick’s evolution to Tier Six finally began.

Of course, unlike the evolution to Goblin King, Rick would feel no pain whatsoever. All that it would require was time.

  One week exactly.

For that entire week, the Dark Lands of Mir were probably the most secure it had ever been. Of course the fronts were still raging with battle, but with all of the help Rick and his Royal Guards provided, there were many, many Goblins who not only didn’t die…but were able to rest, recover and join the fight once again with renewed vigor.

And then Rick finally awoke from his evolution.

  …

  ‘Hm…it’s over…’

[It is. How are you feeling?]

‘…Stronger…for the most part…not too different from before. Can I see my status?’

‘My Intelligence being that low, feels kind of insulting for some reason, but other than that I’m much stronger than I was before. Did you go through any changes?’

[Not particularly. It seems Tier Six isn’t that big of a jump overall. Which doesn’t seem that improbable when comparing the previous Tier Six beings we’ve interacted with. I think your Tier Seven evolution will the opportunity for a massive upgrade for both of us.]

‘Perhaps…but while the jump wasn’t massive, it was still significant. I was far stronger than I was previously…though I’m a bit worried my spear won’t be able to withstand this new strength of mine.’

[That is likely. Though you had a few plans in place for that right?]

‘Yeah I did…after we get all these Chiefs evolved though.’
