I saw Maria once more today. This is beginning to become a rather regular thing, and it is making me a little weary. I do not know to what avail that all this is happening. I even asked Angelo and he said that I was being paranoid. However, he did seem to be hiding something, so I didn't inquire further. Speaking of Angelo, I have recently been told that he is in love with some girl from this village. I confronted him about this and he turned his head away. This was all I needed to know about the situation. I told him that he shouldn't get caught up in love in a time like this. We are soldiers in this great war after all. We cannot spare to have this. Besides, after we leave, we will probably not come back.

"Worry about yourself," Angelo muttered, looking me up and down. I do not know how to take this, so I changed the topic. I questioned as to who he had a crush on. He told me that it was Maria's younger sister, Alena. I told him that he shouldn't worry.
"Maybe we'll be brothers," he whispered to me. I slapped him. We spent the rest of the day inside of the village, where it is warm. Maria did not come see me after I spotted her. For some reason, I am quite sad.
