She’s correct on what she’s saying about the monster, exactly the same way that Kiana was and is. It’s not accurate to say that, the higher the rank of the monster the smarter they get per say, however, once they reach S rank realm things can get a little chaotic. Some monsters are just that, a living walking disaster that only wants to destroy while in some cases, S rank monsters are as intelligent as a human being. We have two good examples of that, the first one is the Colossal Shadow from way back, an S rank monster who only wanted to destroy, then we have the “Giant” Crystal monsters and from how my tales against weaker Crystal monsters went, I think you can easily understand just how smart they might be.
But, moving on, a small slime is an F rank monster not only thanks to its extremely small amount of magic energy, but also thanks to its simple behaviour, just how we’ve seen them behave towards Kiana when she was in the dungeon. The higher the rank the stronger they get of course, but that also includes on how and the ways they use their strength, the more you have it, the “smarter” you have to be to fully use it to its maximum potential, and that is something that the monsters excel at, an instinctive behaviour I would say. A small slime behaves accordingly to its strength, that it’s why they hide upon sensing someone or something far stronger than what they are, the same thing can be said about Elemental Slimes, nothing has changed in that regard but thanks to their new strength and abilities, they can effectively use magic and even learn it. They didn’t get smarter; at the end of the day, they still are slimes, they will quiver in fear in the face of a far stronger opponent, but thanks to their “new” strength we can somewhat say that, they have an “intellectual” superiority towards all the other slimes all because it can use magic. An A rank monster is capable of doing an enormous amount of damage to a city as I’ve said several times before, that alone makes him dangerous to the vast majority of humans. Having such a terrifying monster make a simple mistake just like he did in the cave is not normal at all. There are always exceptions to the rule but, I really don’t believe that is the case.
“(Wait a second, he never said that, the monster who caused the collapse was the A rank monster...)”
Good one Alice! I didn’t even think or notice that. I was so occupied in trying to find a way to justify what he was saying that I've missed that and it more than seems that Kiana is in the same boat.
Taniah- A cave within a cave... It’s good that none of you got hurt, it could’ve ended quite badly. Now I understand why you are insisting that you got lucky but, is there anything else you can tell me about all of this? You still haven’t explained the magic stone at all.
Breve- I know Miss President, I’m getting there. After the cave collapsed, we decided to keep exploring, and once again, luckily for us, the team we hired had everything ready to descend down the cave, not right with them but in the camp we had a few hundred of meters from the cave. The exploration of the cave itself was rather peaceful, the monster that caused the collapse was defeated in the process but, I’ve never said that, said monster was an A rank in fact, that magic stone over there does not belong to him at all. I also have no clue what happened to its magic stone, maybe it still is there in the middle of the debris. After hours and even a day of exploring the cave, we happened to cross said magic stone, frozen and stuck in a wall. I think you can guess what happened next.
Taniah- Yes, I can easily understand what you did next. Either way, I hope all of you take this as an important and valued lesson, said luck might and won’t be with you next time. What you did is more than dangerous so please, be more careful next time. I would hate to have to inform your parents of your demise.
“Ah, but before we go, just one last question. How did you manage to unfreeze the magic stone without damaging it or activating it?”
Somehow, this simple question created an environment that none expected and this does include Alice and Kiana. While the both of them are more surprised at Breve reaction as he raises his right eyebrow as he also didn’t expect Taniah simple question, the trio on the other hand, if they could, they would be running with all of their might towards the horizon. If before they were sweating profusely then now, they are sweating rivers and of course, the sheer horror they have on their face as they panicky look towards each other trying to find a way to answer her question is also something that can easily be spotted from kilometres of distance.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Nerdiest Student- Uh, we used Pyro magic? Ye-Yeah! We melted the ice... Of course… Please… believe that.
Taniah- I see! So, you’ve used a Pyro spell to melt the ice you say… Hmm, from my little knowledge about magic stones, wasn’t that a little too risky? How did you manage to avoid any reactions with the magic stone? I’ve heard that, the higher quality a magic stone is, the easier it’s to cause reactions with it, so much so that “we” use it in weapons.
And she got them, cornered them like the rats they are. Even though she has “little knowledge” about magic stones, what she said is more than right. Once a magic stone reaches a certain level it gains an element to it, in other words, any magic stone from a monster whose strength is equal to B+ or higher, the magic stone they drop is infused with an element on it. This element won’t vary from monster to monster but from race of monster to race of monster, what I mean by this is that, a Black Wolf Fang (I know these ones are C rank but, they are good example) will always drop a magic stone whose element is Black Magic (not really) while a Goblin King magic stone will have the element GEO on it (once again, not really since Goblin King is B rank).
With this, you can easily understand that the A rank magic stone has an element to it and even though it has a dark red shade to it, it does not mean its element will necessarily be Pyro. It can be Electro for example, in that case, once the Pyro spell makes contact with it, an explosion will follow or in other words, the chemical reaction, overload will occur. It’s extremely risky to do what they did, especially since they have no clue what rank the magic stone belongs to and even harder to know what element it has on it. To be honest, the only one that would not have a significant reaction would be if the magic stone has the element GEO on it. That is probably what they will be saying as at the end of the day, they are an expert on this field and that also makes what they did pure incompetence and risky as they more than know what can and will happen. However, this is something that both Alice and Taniah have no clue about it but, let’s see how this will go.
Nerdiest Student- I-I-I-It was-is a G-G-G-E-GEO magic stone! Ye-Yeah! That’s why it didn’t react at all! I believe you know how GEO reacts with elements, right Miss President-san?
Taniah- Yes, I know, and if you say it, I’m inclined to believe after all, you are the experts here. However, you can also see just how unimaginable your story is, I’ve read the report before coming here however, the moment I saw that magic stone and when Alice then said that, it belonged to a monster, one whose strength was A rank, something that was not in the reports, it got me a little suspicious. Either way, please get in contact with the administration about the magic stone so that no problem arises in the future. Also, next time do avoid this, just tell the administration of such finds as soon as you can. Well, I apologize for the inconvenience and once again thank you for having us. We will be going now.
She bows slightly towards them as she finishes saying this. Both Alice and Kiana follow Taniah lead, doing the same thing. Right after this, they all bid their goodbyes to the trio. Seriously, the three of them, except for Breve that is, this one was and is relaxed all the way throughout the interaction, on the other hand, those three let out quite the loud sigh, one that is filled with relief. Not suspicious at all I will say.
“You didn’t inconvenience us at all, Miss President. For the future, we will keep that in mind and of course, do what you asked. How we’ve handled our situation has indeed created a little bit of mistrust and we apologise for it. Well, see you another time and feel free to come here whenever you want, the doors will always be open to the student council and even more to you, the President.”
With this way too polite farewell, the three of them left the room. After this they went outside to discuss what just happened and of course, let out their opinions about it to one and another. It’s 11:05 am, not late by any means but neither early. As I said a little bit ago, at 14 pm they will be visiting the other special class, one that in Taniah eyes, it’s a potential suspect for those summoning stones. In other words, they will be visiting the Magic Circle class to see if they have something on said summoning stones after all, in this class, they can easily do/create something like that since they just “need” to infuse a magic stone with a summoning magic circle.
