(89)Chapter 2.3.2 – Is It Wrong for a Magical Girl to Tackle the Dungeon? (Part 3)

  Step!

Just like before, her gentle footsteps echo throughout the place.

  Step!

Rather than being a dry sound, this time around the sound itself seems to be a little “wet”. It seems the more she descends down the humidity increases making the sound echo in a slightly different way as it hits the wet environment.

  Step!

Water slowly descends down from the cracks that are now present in the walls, ones that started with concrete but as she descends down, they quickly turn into normal stone walls. After a few good steps, a minute or so of descending the stairs, she’s right at the entrance of the first floor. As anyone can expect, the scenery changes completely, this floor straight out seems to be a cave rather than an extension of the lobby, a cave that has magic stones inside of it that light up the floor itself. The reason for the increase of humidity is thanks to the small ponds, ones that are no deeper than 10 or 20 centimetres and they are throughout the floor. The water present in these ponds is of course, filled with magic and while it won’t kill anyone that drinks it, its flavour is not the best at all. Either way it seems Kiana has company.

  Boing! Boing! Boing!

“Oh! There sure are a few of them! And look at the variety!”

The moment her left foot touches the ground, she’s instantly greeted by a few small monsters, slimes in this case. As I said a long time ago, slimes are nothing special at all and yet, here we have Kiana eager to have a go at them. Her golden eyes are a little sharp but they are filled with excitement and of course, her tone of voice is the same way. However, what excites her is not the slime's strength as they are F rank monsters, no, what somewhat surprises her is the sheer variety of them in a place like this. First of all, there are four types of slimes, small, medium, big and Elemental slimes. Then we have subtypes of them, in this case there are several of them, maybe even hundreds of them. The slimes are made of pure magic, and each one of them has a specific element because of it, said element can be any, and I mean that. While it’s extremely rare, a slime can have Black Magic as its element. They are mainly made of that element, putting aside the extreme rare case, let’s go with a Pyro slime, all of the slimes have an oval shape to their bodies, said body seems to be composed of a gelatinous material, then thanks to the magic they have, said gelatinous material mixes with the element that in this case is Pyro, becoming a bouncing oval thingy made of purely Pyro, not only that, they are completely immune to said element.

“Well! Since I’m the only one here, there is something that I would like to experiment.”

She was rather loud with that “well” not only that, she really is way too excited for this! Whatever, there are fifteen slimes in front of her, although they are just standing there as still as they can. A normal behaviour for these types of monsters and even monsters in general, even though slimes are low level monsters they can easily sense magic around them and the moment they fully process what is the monstrosity in front of them, it makes them act this way. It’s their instincts screaming and begging at them to stay still so that the hunter does not see them as prey. There are three Electro slimes, two Geo slimes, seven of them are Hydro, two of them are somehow Dendro slimes and a single lone Pyro slime.

  Woosh!

I don’t know what has given into her, however, she quickly raises her right hand and points the palm of her hand towards the Pyro slime, the one that is the furthest from her at around 10 meters. Then, with a smile on her face, one that shows great satisfaction to what she’s about to do, with her chin raised upwards by a few centimetres shows of the terror she’s mere moments from doing, with her head tilted sideways to the left by another few centimetres and with her left eye wide open it shows the craziness to what’s about to unfold. A red circle appears right in front of the palm of her hand, one that has around 50 centimetres of diameter. In other words, she’s about to unleash something far too powerful against mere slimes.

“Hahaha! I heard you guys are immune to your own elements, let’s see if that is true, shall we?”

Then, with a loud laugh, one that travels throughout the floor easily, hitting the walls and creating echo thanks to it, she asks this question to them.

  “Inferno Flames!”

  Swoosh! Fire noises!

This is way overkill for mere slimes! With a loud “swoosh” one that has a deep sound to it mind you, all thanks to the initial “pull” from the magic circle, one that seems to gather air towards it so that it can unleash hell itself towards these poor slimes. A fraction of a second later, said hell in the form of a wave is unleashed, consuming anything and everything on its path. Inferno Flames, a B+ rank spell capable of melting even metal from how hot those flames are however, in the hands of our and for some reason crazy Kiana, the spell on her current hands is at A rank and those flames have reached a temperature of 1500 degrees the moment it came out of the magic circle, immediately dropping the temperature to a “merely” 1200 degrees the moment it hit the Pyro slime. Everything was melted, this wave of flames is easily 5 or so meters of width but, it first had those 50 centimetres as the magic circle but quickly transformed into a literal wave of fire. Nothing was left from those slimes, no magic stone, nothing and almost the same can be said of the floor itself in that area. There was a small pond of water in the middle of the slimes where one Hydro slime was hiding in there, but when the wave of fire went through them, it literally vaporized them in an instant. In fact, the water in the pound was vaporized before the wave even hit it. The ground was left with a bright red colour thanks to the sheer temperature but mere moments later said brightness disappeared and a few other moments later, the colour followed it.

In other words, way too overkill for mere slimes and yet…

  Boing! Boing! Boing!

The Pyro slime was the only thing that survived such a horrifying spell, easily confirming her suspicion and of course what I said, even though they are extremely weak, they are completely immune to the type of element they are made of. Now, why did Kiana use such extreme measures for this!? Is she somewhat stressed out from what happened yesterday? I mean, I can see that being the case but… A little too much? No?

“Fascinating! I could probably use an even stronger spell against it and it would survive! Ah, now I wonder if it actually would survive if I used that magic against it? But what if it actually survived it?”

She walks up to the slime as she says this, one that of course, is bouncing with his life on his gelatinous body as it tries to get away from Kiana. Since Kiana is faster than him even though she’s casually walking to him, he understands that it is futile to try to run from her, completely stopping moving and doing the same thing as before.

“I don’t know how I should feel… This weak slime is capable of coming unscathed after getting hit by a strong spell and yet, with a mere flick of my finger, I can easily defeat you. Huh, the world sure is odd, no?”

  Bam!

With said flick of the finger, she hits the slime right in the middle of its body, defeating him in the process. In other words, the slime exploded into mere particles of magic, dropping his magic stone and disappearing into nothing shortly after. Anyway, after this fantastic display of way to overpowered magic against someone whose strength is F rank, she slowly picks up the magic stone and stores it on her purse, her normal looking purse, yep, still nothing out of ordinary in that realm! The magic stone is as big as from yesterday's slimes or in this case, rather small with barely any magic on it and of course, making its commercial value low. Sigh… from her A rank now to D rank and her current lack of money, even if she does not want to, she has to pick up everything that she comes across, she has to feed herself at the end of the day. I do find this a little humiliating but it seems she does not think it in that way as she happily picks up said stone however, not that I think about it, she probably shouldn’t have melted the other ones, there were fifteen slimes, not a small number at all and thanks to that spell, she was able to pick up only one of them…

  “Ah… I didn’t think of that…”

Silly Kiana, don’t blame me if you have to skip a meal someday! Moving on, after this she keeps on moving, her footsteps keep on echoing inside the dungeon but with them, a “drip” and “drop” sound accompanies said footsteps, these sounds are all thanks to the excess humidity in the floor, making everything wet and from there, drops of water falls down into the ground having that “drip” sound and into the pounds of water, creating the “drop” sound. These sounds are the only ones that can be heard on this floor as all the monsters present here, slimes in this case, all of them are hiding from Kiana and they don’t dare to make a move or a sound. Since she had to reach A rank in terms of magic energy, the entire floor felt said tremendous amount of energy and because of this, they are quivering in fear praying to whatever gods that the slimes believe that Kiana will not find them at all. However, while they might be hiding to themselves, to us, to Kiana and to anyone with at least one eye working, what you see throughout the floor are oval thingies of different colours standing still and shaking quite dramatically.

While this looks “stupid” to us, to them, it does not. This behaviour comes from their physical characteristics as they don’t have vision, they can only sense their environment. This goes for the small slimes, medium and big ones but for some inexplicable reason, the Elemental Slimes do have vision. At the same time, this lack of vision easily explains why they are so sensitive to magic energy and why they rely so much on it.
