5 – Old Comrades(1)

  Re-Estize Kingdom, Bleakrock Vilge(Bellriver, 1st Person)

The phrase 'Well fuck me' came to my mind. My sloppiness in dealing with these warriors led to me inadvertently drawing the attention of someone who was much more powerful than the leader of these men, who, in hindsight, couldn't have been any more powerful than a level 31 [Summoner].

"Who will be my opponent today?" the knight said as he straightened himself. He turned towards the warrior priests, then turned back to look at him.

'It's pretty clear that he sees me as the more significant threat, and I can't help but agree. Judging by his enchanted heavy armor, the low-level spells from the remaining priests would barely scratch him, let alone wound him. Those swords could tear me apart; it looks like they're made of orachalcum. If I had my gear, I could probably take him out. Why did I give it all to Momonga? Shifting my attention to the knight, I saw a more petite figure gracefully nd beside him.

It was a woman of unparalleled beauty, almost like one of the NPCs you could make in YGGDRASIL. She was definitely a mage. With light armor and a shortsword, she moved with a certain amount of grace, either that or a priest, but she didn't seem equipped like one. He noticed her eyes open with surprise before the knight kneeled, put a hand on her, and whispered something into her ear. The mage straightened and gave a curt nod in response.

'Gary'(the new leader of the priests) snapped out of his stupor before replying to this "Momon's" earlier question: "Raven Bck Hero Momon! It's great that you came to our aid," he looked around at his remaining men, "We adventurers were sent to investigate this town, only to find it deserted. We were on our way back to E-Pespel before we were suddenly ambushed by this demon, who killed many of our comrades. I urge you to help us defeat this hellspawn to prevent it from causing more destruction."

The giant replied: "Oh... if you are all adventurers, you must have a guild pte. After all, every adventure is to keep one on them so they have proof of identity."

I could feel the smirk that was under his helmet. This guy had seen right through their facade.

'Gary' looked nervous. "W-w-w-well, you see, great Momon," he choked out, "Our party gave all of our guild ptes to our leader for safekeeping. If he were the only one to survive, he would be able to remember those he lost and give our families an equal share of the payment." After finishing, he looked around at all the other warrior priests and coughed. The group sprang into action with nods and men agreeing with his statement.

Momon turned his attention to me, and I, unsure what to do, just shrugged. It seemed to satisfy Momon as he turned back to the band of morons, but the mage next to him kept looking at me.

I mentally scolded myself for freezing up before turning my attention to Momon.

"That seems like a remarkably dumb thing to do. What would happen if your leader were to be killed? I want to speak with him about this party's mess and perhaps a peaceful solution to our current situation."

"Well, great Momon . . . that may prove difficult, given that the demon ambushed our poor leader first and obliterated him." I could tell that 'Gary' was proud of himself for that one.

I could also tell Momon was genuinely annoyed at Gary's idiotic responses as he sighed and crossed his arms.

  (POV Ainz/Momon)

I finally got sick of all the constant security and surveilnce of being the Sorcerer King(and the ruler of Nazerick), so I did what anyone would do to blow off some steam.

I snuck out of Nazerick to adventure.

I was grateful that Pandora's Actor briefed me on what Momon was currently doing and even more grateful that he promised the utmost confidentiality with my "vacation."

So "Momon," and by proxy Nabe, was currently supporting the Sorcerer King's war against the Re-Estize Kingdom by subjugating (or my creation's words, "liberating") vilges in the Southern portion of the Kingdom so that the Sorcerer Kingdom's advance isn't slowed down. This mission was perfect! I got to get away from my duties and rex because Momon is pretty well known now, thanks to Pandora's Actor.

I expected many things: running into bandits dumb enough to try to rob me, people being terrified of Momon's stature, and maybe a mini-adventure of having to clear out a dungeon. One thing I didn't expect was to see someone who looked exactly like one of my guildmates!

I instantly recognized it as a [Flesh Abomination], and a powerful one at that, but the main thing that interested me was that he looked exactly like Bellriver. I couldn't take any chances, so when Naberal saw him, I told her to wait to confirm what we both suspected.

So far, he hasn't spoken a word, which doesn't bother me. I just needed to get rid of the pests first.

No matter how much the leader of these priests lied, I could tell that they were definitely Theocracy, a humancentric nation of zealots that was currently Nazerick's greatest known threat. They were most likely part of one of their five Scriptures; each had a specialty and worked independently from one another, but occasionally would work with Theocracy's national army. I had an earlier encounter with one of them, the Sunlight Scripture, where Nazerick managed to gain most of our information on the Sne Theocracy's military from prisoners of that battle. Although "battle" may be generous, it was more of a one-sided sughter, much like what happened here.

I was getting tired of the games these men were pying, but a voice behind me drew my attention.

"If it helps, I was minding my own business before these men attacked me. The gruesome scene you see before you was merely self-defense."

It was the [Flesh Abomination]; he had finally spoken up. I decided to confirm my suspicions. "Self-defense? It appears as if this fight was a one-sided sughter," I tried to sound amused, "Couldn't you have ran? Maybe tried to resolve things using words instead of fists?"

He stood still momentarily before replying: "Well, I would have, but these men gave me no choice but to eliminate them. One of my friends always said, 'Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to handle conflict through peaceful means.' And also, I was a bit disoriented given the situation."

I froze; that was what PunnetMoe always said; if it weren't for him, our guild might not even exist. He taught us the importance of establishing alliances so that someone has your back.

I just needed to confirm one st thing, "By the way, what is your name? I apologize for not asking sooner; I'm sure you can understand, given the circumstances."

"Bellriver, and I understand that your name is Momon?" He replied hesitantly.

"Good, it seems it really is you."

  "Do I know y-"

"Naberal, deal with these humans; save some for interrogation." I cut Bellriver off; it was him, it had to be him.

I walked towards him as the screaming began, taking my helmet off to reveal the face of my in-game avatar. His eyes changed from confusion to surprise and then shock.

I hugged him, "It's good to see you, old friend."
