Cal is an alien, at least to Nyla he is. His people are called Humans. Humanity is a precursor race and has been traveling the multiverse for centuries longer than other races. Cal is a warrior of humankind. One might even say he is The Only Warrior for humanity. But somehow Nyla has won his friendship, as well as the friendship of Cal''''s Artificial intelligence companion, Artie. With the arrival of a new precursor race, a threat of extinction and enslavement is brought to thousands of species. Humanity''''s response results in Cal taking personal responsibility for uplifting Nyla''''s species. At the same time, he and Nyla play host to an ambassador from the enemy. The struggle of uniting a tribal species while playing host to a woman who believes that all who can not fight or serve a purpose as a slave should die might just be too much for Nyla.
