Chapter 40
(Blood Taste)
“So why are you here?” Emerald spurted out as they both took their seats on the bench, viewing the butterflies that were making their way into the garden and inhaling the pleasant smell of the flowers.
He didn’t say a word at first, only stared at her. She waited for him to speak, and when he didn’t, she turned to look at him. He had this sad face on, but that didn’t keep the handsomeness away.
He picked her hand into his, caressing her palm as he bore holes into her eyes
“Are you still angry with me?” he asked
She rolled her eyes, trying to pull her hand from his grip, but he held on it tightly
“You ain’t answering”
“Yes…” She snapped
He was silent for a while; he flipped his tongue under his inching fang, which he was trying to keep cool.
“Was it about the peck of the other day…come on..it was…nothing you know”
“Then why did you do it without my permission, I don’t like guys touching me that way; and the only reason why I’m talking to you right now is because you don’t seem to be a bad guy”
He smiled on hearing that
“Really…yea.. I’m not a bad guy, and I don’t feel happy with the way you are treating me. I’m really sorry for doing that, and I promise not to cross my boundaries any longer.” He pouted
“Fine…apology accepted, I need to go now” She stated, trying to get up but he drew her back
“Wait, I’m not done yet. Erm.. Emerald, can we be friends, I mean, real close friends. You know.. I don’t have any at school”
“Hmm…fine..but try not to step on my toes, or I will break your balls” She threatened
He chuckled, getting up. She was about to leave the garden but paused, turning back to look at him
“Ain’t you gonna finish up the snacks and …erm..”
“Nope, I’m full already; I will be expecting you tomorrow for the group work then”
“Sure” She muttered
He nodded
“I will be leaving now..my regards to Daniel, bye” He winked. She nodded, turning quickly so that he wouldn’t have a hint of the blush on her face. She doesn’t know why he is making her feel this way. She was supposed to yell at him when he touched her hand, but she couldn’t.
His hand has this very cool temperature compared to hers, his smiles alone cause sparks to erupt in her stomach, and that wink, gosh…
“I’m damn speechless” She mumbled, walking out of the garden. She believes that he is still staring at her back as she leaves, or perhaps her big ass, damn, what a thought.
She tilted her hands backward to catch a glimpse of him but saw no one. Where could he have passed? She thought, taking her steps back to the garden. She strides towards where he stood earlier, scrutinizing the whole place, but he seemed to have been long gone.
“Wait a sec, did he climb through the fence or what?” She chuckled, asking no one in particular. But she wouldn’t start having weird thoughts about the new guy right, so she shrugged it off.

D’ Arcy’s POV
I smiled, watching her as she walked out of the garden; she was trying her best to conceal the blush on her face, but trust my vampire senses, I was quick to see it. My fangs were inching badly, and she caused it; well, not really her fault, but I just wanted her that moment.
I don’t know why I began feeling weird suddenly; my vampiric feral was trying to take control. Thanks to the goddess, I was able to control it before my fangs sprang out, causing my claws to do the same.
Her smell was tempting, I wanted to have a taste of her, but I can’t do that yet.
She is surely mine to start with, but I will need her trust before trying anything; especially being a different kind.
I sped out of the garden in a moment of seconds, directing my path to the woods, where earthly creatures with blood dwell. Those animals are gonna be my victims; I haven’t had blood from a live source in a while now, and it’s really affecting my immune. I dashed into the forest, fully changed into my vampire form.
Catching a wild boar, I devoured it with my claws after a few struggles, digging my fangs into its nape, taking a large content of blood from the veins. In less than a minute, it was without a pint as it dropped lifelessly on the ground. I wasn’t still satisfied, I needed more blood.
I was about to look for another prey when I heard the sound of people approaching.
“Arhh…hunters,” I gritted in anger, looking for a tall tree with branches where I could hide and watch them.
They came around the dead boar, speaking in gibberish languages. They seem to be gypsy nomads or bush men. I hid carefully, watching them examine the animal, before agreeing to jack in up. It took four huge men to carry the animal, due to its weight.
They were laughing and clattering; the fact that a huge meat was found without any effort to kill it was such a great excitement. But they were oblivious of what killed it, and not so careful about the predator watching them from above.
My feral wasn’t helping matters; my fangs still inch. I need a live source and animal blood is beginning to taste sour to me. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but I can’t control how I feel now. This isn’t me doing this, this is my other self.
I watch the men carry the boar on a large plank, carrying it on their shoulders, as they walk away into the forest, leaving only one who was busy examining the ground; he might have caught a glimpse of my footprints during the struggle. He bent forward to touch the ground, squinting.
His colleagues were oblivious to the fact that he wasn’t in the crew anymore. I watched him closely with a thin iris, ready to strike. And just as he rose his head up looking into the trees above, my limbs gave way, landing on the ground, with my already erupted claws, piercing unto his shoulders.
He gave a loud shout, which might alert the others, but my feral cared less. I felt my fang digging into his neck, finding the exact vein.
I drew out warm and tasty blood, taking each gulp carefully, not minding his struggle. With my sharp eyesight, I could see the other hunters drawing near with their fighting equipment. Taking the last gulp, I dropped the man to the ground; he was still alive but unconscious. I made sure that I didn’t drain him.
Just in time, the hunters came nearer; we all exchanged contact as I gave them a scary grin. I heard the cocking of a gun but was fast to take to my heels.
The next thing I heard was a ‘bang,’ causing the bird on the trees to scurry away; the gun sound might have scared the animal, too because I came across some running into hiding. The hunter seems smart, but I’m fast. You can’t compare the speed of a human to that of a vampire. I was already miles away before the bullet had come out.
~~~
Getting to a safe distance at the outskirts of the forest, I changed back to my human form. I have yet to master the vanishing skills; I would have gone for that and just appeared in my room.
“Gosh…my cloth is stained” I cursed, looking at the blood on it. Should I just take it off and walk nude? I thought before shaking my head
“Nope, I’m not a nudist, and whereas I get pale skin compared to that of humans. Why in the world will I wanna walk nude, that’s gonna cause a lot of stares…damn.
I managed to get home after a while of staying in the forest; I did that for two reasons. One, for the day to get dark, which will prevent people from seeing how stained my clothes are, and also for my red eyes to return to normal. As vampires, our eyes are meant to turn red after drinking from a live source.
I entered the house and was greeted by my housekeeper.
“Welcome Mister…” She smiled, walking out of the kitchen with a pot in her hands. She placed it on the dining table.
“Hi Mrs. James” I replied, hanging my shirt on my shoulder, as I attempt climbing the stairs
“Oh…what happened to the shirt? You ain’t wearing it,” She asked, walking closer. I smiled at her habit of showing concern. She acts like a mother to me most time
“Erm…I kinda fell into mud and erm..it got stained.” I replied, hoping she wouldn’t ask for it, else she would see the stains which weren’t that of mud but blood.
“Oh..let me help you with it, I will wash it…”
“No...no...not now, Mrs. James…I can do this myself”
“But…”
“No buts….I’m grateful..but you can’t be helping with keeping the house and also washing my clothes; I can do this myself, okay? Thanks” I rushed my words, dashing up the stairs, not waiting for her reply.
“Ok…dinner is ready” She yelled from below.
“Ok..I will be down in a sec” I replied, entering my room
