Chapter 1: Solid Unit 1
The date is June 3rd, 1395 in Hjarta Steinn. A man and a fifteen year old boy are on a horse that has satchels filled with groceries at its sides.
James: Are we now headed home?
Odin: Why? Can't wait for your busty cowgirls?
James: The storytelling and knife-play are far more interesting to me.
Odin: Right. What's the film's name again?
James: Milk Blasters 2.
Odin: Right, right. You little perv.
They ride to a big house two miles away from Hjarta Steinn and hop off of the horse. Odin ties the horse under a covered area to the right of the front door.
Odin: That's a good Socrates.
They grab their satchels and walk inside. In front, there's a living room with a big L shaped couch in the left corner and an oak and glass coffee table across from a TV atop a spruce stand. There's a set of stairs in the right corner of the living-room, leading up to two bedrooms. To the right, there's a dining-room with a kitchen to its left. Under the first set of stairs, there's another set, leading down from the kitchen. They walk into the kitchen and start putting away groceries.
James: Will you take your new phone to your investors tomorrow?
Odin: Yes. The boys in Asgard should be in for quite the surprise when they see this touchscreen phone.
James: What might that new suit downstairs be?
Odin: Saw that, did you? The first Solid Suit isn't going to last but two or three more years. It's best to make a mark two before it falls apart... Maybe this one can have a new pilot when its done.
James: Surely, not me?
Odin: No. I'll need to find a worthy apprentice other than you. I've actually already started searching.
James: Yes. I have heard of the Young Prodigy Fund. Perhaps more people would apply if you let out your secret identity?
Odin: And, maybe more evil would come our way too. Now, shut up and treat Socky.
Odin throws James a carrot and he walks outside. Odin then finishes putting away the groceries and puts the satchels next to the front door.
Odin: James...
Scar: He'll learn one day.
Odin: Ah, Scarlet. How's the suit coming along?
Scar: Fairly well. I've come up with some improvements that may boost the efficiency of your robots.
Odin: Hit me.
Scar: Human-like appendages with opposable thumbs would allow them to produce more easily, and being able to move on the ground on their own would allow them to reach tougher angles with ease.
Odin: I assume you've made up some schematics?
Scar: Yes, sir.
Odin: Let's see them.
Odin walks downstairs and into the concrete-floored basement. On his left, there's a work desk with scattered documents and sketches all around. A printer is on the right half and a triple monitor display is on the left half. There's a one cubic foot large computer under the desk. To the right of the desk, there are three robot arms piecing together the legs of a metal suit behind a small gap in the floor that lines up with a secret door that's currently lifted up into the ceiling. On the right of the secret area, there's a large and empty, white, circular space that lines up with a same-size white area on the ceiling, which has a line splitting it in two. This white area fits inside a square portion of the room. The printer on the desk starts printing.
Scar: I'll have them done in a moment. In the meantime-
Odin walks across the white floor to the back wall.
Odin: Let's do our thing.
The wall before him spins open, revealing a massive metal suit with a yellow crystal at its core. The suit opens up, as if inviting him inside.
Scar: Hunting down terrorists?
Odin: You Bet Your Brass!
Odin climbs into the suit, it closes, and he walks to the center of the white area. Then, the area on the ceiling opens up, Odin jumps out of the basement with his boosters, and he lands outside.
Scar: The nearest activity detected is a weapons deal on the edge of Niflheim and Muspelheim. Marking it on your map.
On Odin's display inside the mask, there's a basic 3D map in the upper right corner. The upper left shows the condition of the suit.
Odin: That's all? Won't take me five minutes to get back home.
Odin runs super fast with his boosters towards the activity. Meanwhile, there are three men in body armor on the outside of the Niflheim swamp, on the sands of Muspelheim, standing behind a truck.
Wedge: Hey, Biggs?
Biggs: Yeah, Wedge?
Stolen novel; please report.
Wedge: This job really sucks.
Biggs: Yeah. Why can't they make an armor that cools us as we wear it?
Wedge: That, and we have a chance of running into Solid Man.
Biggs: He wouldn't attack us, would he? We're not terrorists.
Wedge: He's taken down gun dealers before.
Biggs: What do you think, Heft?
Heft: Eh.
Wedge: Anyway, we should've gone to weapons testing instead.
Biggs: Yeah. I would've loved to have been part of the BFG Division.
Wedge: What's a BFG?
Biggs: Well, it's a Big-
Just then, Heft gets caught in a net and falls to the ground.
Heft: Eh! EH!
Biggs: What the-
Biggs gets electrocuted and passes out. Wedge then notices the metal man walking towards him. Wedge tries shooting the man, but it has no effect. Odin then grabs Wedge by the torso and lifts him up.
Odin: Hello there.
Wedge: Don't kill me!
Odin: This truck is from Manus. What's it doing here with guns in it?
Wedge: This is the best way to transport cargo on the ground. Even without roads.
Odin: What kind of ship can bring a big truck all the way here?
Wedge: It was built here.
Odin: Interesting... Who's your boss?
Wedge: Kill me.
Just then, Wedge's phone rings. Odin takes the phone and opens his helmet. He then notices his mistake.
Odin: Tell anyone about my face and I'll grant your wish.
Odin throws Wedge aside and answers the phone.
Odin: Whoever this is, your men are being taken to the nearest jail with their truck. You're next, wussy!
Odin crushes the phone. Meanwhile, Omni slowly sets down his phone in his office in his Muspelheim factory. He then takes a deep breath.
Omni: Solid Man...
Once Odin gets home and takes off his suit, he walks to his desk and the ceiling closes.
Odin: (Gotta be more careful next time) You done printing, or should we go another round?
Scar: All done, sir.
Odin: Let's see here.
Odin looks over the printed out documents quickly.
Odin: Looks doable. Get to work on this right after the suit's done.
Scar: Understood.
Odin: … You know, the last time I made a robot arm was, uh... Was Mason.
Scar: I'm sorry, sir. I know he meant a lot to you.
Odin: Save it... I'm gonna get a drink.
Odin walks up to the kitchen and opens the fridge. He reaches for a wine bottle in the bottom left of the door before stopping. After a moment, he closes the fridge and leans his head against it. He then closes his eyes and lets a tear loose before the doorbell rings. Odin wipes his tear away before walking to the front door. He then opens the door to an older man with a robotic left arm. The sight of the man makes Odin take a few steps back and the man enters the house and closes the door.
Mason: I know. You're shocked. I'm running low on time to explain right now. My grappling arm isn't shooting anymore. Can you fix it?
Mason's deep voice calms Odin a bit.
Odin: I... Yes. Follow me.
Odin leads Mason downstairs and takes out a toolkit from under the table as Mason rests his robot arm on the desk and Odin gets to work on it.
Odin: H-How long have you been around?
Mason: About five years.
Odin: Why didn't you find me sooner?
Mason: I couldn't. You're not the same Odin I knew, and I'm not your Mason. And, I only found out about you last year.
Odin: I see...
Mason: Well, that and, um... You know Ozark's apprentice?
Odin: I remember.
Mason: I got to her before he could. I'm getting her trained and it's going well.
Odin: That's what you said last time.
Mason: Did I?... Anyway, I can explain this all in detail later.
Odin: What's the rush?
Mason: I'm looking for a Chaos Gem.
Odin: Chaos Gem?
Mason: Like the one in your suit. If the info's right, one will be held at a base between Muspelheim and Jotunheim tonight.
Odin: How come you can't just open a portal?
Mason shows Odin his right palm, which has some significant scarring on it.
Mason: It took a lot out of me to come to this universe with just my sword and ring. I can't imagine how You got here.
Odin: I had to use up my, uh, Chaos Gem. It was gone by the time I got to this side. Managed to take my suit and Scarlet with me.
Mason: Scarlet?
Scar: Hello, sir Dreemurr. I am in the computer under the desk.
Odin: She thinks of and produces machinery. Also, helps me find terrorists.
Mason: Interesting...
Odin: All done. Scarlet, open up the roof.
The round ceiling opens.
Odin: Go ahead.
Mason aims his arm at the edge of the top of the open ceiling and shoots his hand towards it with a metal rope behind it. The hand grabs onto the ledge and Mason retracts the rope, sending himself towards the hand, and he lands on the ledge.
Mason: Heh. Perfect. Thank you. I'll be back when I have more time.
Odin: Call next time.
Mason runs off somewhere as the ceiling closes.
Odin: Scarlet, start researching the Lightning Arm again.
Scar: Right away, sir.
Odin: Oh, and boot up Demon's Slayer: Immortal on the big TV. I need to relax.
Odin walks to the living room and starts playing his favorite game.
