Marty came home bck out drunk. He walked in and flopped on his bed. Both him and Pyra are already asleep. I can't sleep, so I've just been staring at the orb. I still don't know how it works. Balder had put it up to his face and rubbed it. Maybe I should try that. I pull it up to my eyes, staring deep into it. I rub the top a little with my free hand. Nothing happens, I'm trying so hard I don't notice Pyra waking up. I look around it and see Pyra stretching.
I put the orb behind my back. Shit, I really didn't see her. I can feel myself sweating and my eyes are bouncing around the room. I'm doing a bad job at hiding it, she's staring at me. I gnce over at her, she's giving me a weird look. Like she's looking inside me.
"Can you stop staring?" I mutter.
"What's behind your back?" She asks.
"Nothing! I don't have anything." I dismiss.
She crosses her arms. Her hair is all messy. It makes her look more mad than suspicious. She walks around me, I turn to look at her. Making sure she can't see behind me.
"If you don't have anything, why do you try so hard to hide your back?" She asks.
"I'm self conscious of my back." I lie.
Damn it! What kind of lie was that, who is self conscious of their back. She leans in, her eyes squinted. She's mere inches from me.
"What are you hiding?" She says.
"Nothing, I'm serious!" I shout.
She moves her hand to my eye. Is this just an excuse to look at my "aura" again? She grabs the side of my head. She quickly pushes me down and reaches behind me.
"What the hell?" I yell.
She grabs the orb. Her face turns from suspicion to confusion. Her eyes lighten up and she covers her mouth with one hand.
"You were hiding a ball!" She ughs.
"Yeah, I told you it was nothing..." I say.
This is good. Maybe she won't question me any further.
"Did someone give this to you?" She asks.
"No, I just found it!" I tell her.
She twists it around in her hand. She gnces from me to the orb.
"This thing does have quite a presence! Almost like it's made out of magic or something." She says.
She turns to me. Her smile slowly fades. Her eyes are squinted and she grips the orb in her hand. What is she doing?
"Where did you actually get this?" She mutters under breath.
"I found it! I really did." I tell her, "Why are you so persistent on this?"
"I don't know... I just feel like your lying to me." She says, "And this isn't some little white lie."
Well, maybe I wouldn't lie to you if I hadn't met you a few days ago! I can't just tell people, "Hey! The magic god gave me a super special orb, that let's you see anything happening at any time!" If I tell anyone here, it's Marty.
Y'know what! Maybe I should just tell her the truth.
"You want to know what it is!" I yell.
She steps back from this. Why am I so mad? It's clear she's just pying around... Damn it.
"Sorry, I didn't know how much you cared about this." She says while pcing the orb back on my bed."
"No, it's fine. I don't know why I over reacted like that." I wipe my face off with my shirt.
I must have been sweating more than I thought, my hair got wet without me even noticing.
"We all have our obsessions." She jokes, "I get really crazy when it comes to magic."
"What is up with that?" I chuckle.
She pauses, her head slumping down. She grabs her staff from behind her bed, she's just looking at it.
"My dad taught me magic..." She says, with a slight awkward chuckle.
"He died early in my life." She says, "I want to carry what he taught me to others... So I get pushy when it comes to things like that."
She slumps down onto her bed. I stand up and walk over to her. I sit next to her, rubbing her back. Her eyes are wet, she has dried tears covering her face.
"Hey, it'll be okay..." I don't really know how to comfort somebody like this.
I can deal with Mark's poisoning or Wick's confidence issues. But how am I supposed to help somebody grieving over their father?
"Maybe, you could teach me some magic." I tell her.
She looks over at me, her eyes are glowing slightly. She gives me a slight grin.
"I'd like that." She tells me.
She stands up and goes to the exit of the hut.
"I'm going to the bathroom. We can start some lessons ter!" She says.
Maybe I am actually pretty good at this! I cheered her up pretty well, and I got out of having to tell her about the orb. I get up and walk out of the hut. The queens daughter, or I guess I should say the princess is training with that soldier again. She's pretty dedicated. It would also be pretty nice to have wings like them.
I watch them for a little bit before the queen comes by.
"Nice to see you Caleb." She smiles.
"You too, do you usually walk through here?" I ask.
"It's my job, I come around the vilge checking in on everybody!" She says.
Why would the queen be doing that. You'd think they have a manager or something.
"How's Marty doing?" She asks.
"I wouldn't know. He was too drunk to speak st night." I chuckle.
"There was a pretty rge party st night. My husband would have gone if he didn't have some work to do." She sighs.
That does raise the question, what are they the king and queen of? There's no way they have royalty for just one vilge!
"Do you two rule the whole fairy territory?" I ask.
She nods. Her arms crossed, and her smile turning into more of a smirk.
"The king of Erin gave us co-leadership of our nds. Though, people treat that like a freedom to do anything here. Since we are considered our own country, people will come here and commit heinous crimes and not be punished back in their home nds." She says.
Wow, so does the king just not care? He still has owner ship of this nd, and people should still be punished for crimes no matter where they do them.
"Welp. I must get going! I hope to see you again after tomorrow." She says while walking off.
Now what should I do? Maybe I could go over to that bar? Maybe I could talk to our carriage driver? There really isn't much to do here... Maybe I could find some work? We are staying here for free, and I doubt Marty actually paid for his drinks st night.
I look over to the princess, she's no longer training. When did they stop? I look down at the ground, a rge man is fighting with a soldier. The princess is lying on the ground, her wing has an arrow in it. I need to warn people! I run towards the king's house. I trip multiple times, the wooden bridges aren't meant for running. They were barely made for walking. I reach the kings house, two men stand in front of it.
"What do you want?" One scoffs.
"The princess! She's being attacked!" I yell.
"Yeah right! Like we'd trust a human." One says.
What the hell! Why won't these guys listen?
"Look, she's ying on the ground right now." I point over the edge.
One of them looks over the ledge. HE sits there for a second before turning around. His face has a look of shock on it. He runs into the kings house. I hear a loud bell, people begin to run around. Some flying away, others hiding it the branches of the trees. People flying off of the paths begin to get shot by arrows. The king runs out of his house, he jumps over the ledge.
"You did good here kid." One of the guards say before running off the edge.
I should go get Marty and Pyra. We should help them. I run over to the hut. I walk inside, Marty is putting on his shirt.
"Oh hey Caleb! What's going on?" He yawns.
"The vilge is under attack." I tell him.
He grabs his sword. His face is tired, he has baggy eyes. He sps himself in the face.
"Let's go! I've got some friends to protect!" He says.
He runs out of the hut. I follow after him, Pyra is standing over the edge. She's frozen, not even twitching. I look over, a rge amount of bandits attack the people. They wear the same clothes as those traffickers that attacked me and Wick. Could this be the crimes the queen was talking about!
The sound of arrows pierce the air. People are screaming, in pain, fear, and straight war cries.
"What's happening?" Pyra stutters.
"They must be capturing the fairies." Martys says.
"Why?" She asks.
"To sell them. They're trafficker." I say.
We stand there for a second. I can't believe people would attack just a peaceful vilge. I hear the sound of trees being cut. I look around, some of the bandits are cutting trees down. They're taking out houses and, they took down all the paths to get up here.
"We need to get down." I say.
"Yeah, but how?" Marty says.
"That's your problem!" Pyra says.
She jumps down and uses wind magic to float to the floor. Magic would be really helpful right now!
"What about us?" I ask Marty.
"We could jump." He shrugs.
"No way! I'm not going to break my feet!" I say.
Marty scratches his chin. He sits there for a second.
"Maybe we could just climb down a tree." I say.
"No, there's no way we could grip it without cutting the tips of our fingers off." He dismisses.
"Maybe we could stab out swords into the trees?" I suggest.
"No, they're too dense." He tells me.
Shit! How are we supposed to get down? There has to be something here. Maybe I have something? Wait, my moonlit knife!
"I know he we can get down!" I say.
"What?" Marty asks.
I pull out my knife.
"We'll stab this into a tree and and slide down with out body weight!" I say.
"I already told you! The trees are too dense." He says.
Did I never tell him about my knife?
"This is a magical weapon. I can cut any physical object." I tell him.
"I doubt it." He says.
I walk over to a tree. I slowly push it into the tree, it cuts straight through it. Marty's eyes widen.
"Alright! Now we're talking." He shouts.
He jogs over to me. I grab onto his hand and he jumps off the path. We slowly slide down the tree. By the time we make it to the gorund, most of the fairy soldiers are dead. The bandits surround us.
I grab my sword, there's maybe ten of them around us. Five each! I run at one, he swings his sword. I Dodge it and cut him down, the others all jump at this. I use this second to charge on more. I slice his waist, cutting him in half. A few of them run away, but a rge fireball hits them. I look over and see Pyra, she gives me a wink. I look around to see who's having the hardest time. I see the king fighting the guy I saw at the start.
I tush over them. The king is all cut up.
"Marty's friend!" He shouts.
"I'll help." I say.
"Fine with me!" He grins.
The man he's fighting is huge! Maybe seven feet tall. But he's still just a normal guy, I've fought holy knight before! We both run forward, the man try's to grab my sword, clearly underestimating me. I cut straight through his hand, leaving his arm like sandwich buns. The king pushes his hands into the man, he has cws giving the man a rge wound.
"Is that all you've got!" He ughs.
He grabs the king and throws him multiple feet back. This guy has giant strength! He turns to me. He has a rge grin on his face.
"I'm going to enjoy this." He scoffs.
"You want to die." I chuckle.
His face turns from a smile into a rge frown. He looks down at me like a rodent. His skin begins to smoke, the cuts we gave him heal. His arm, that was cut in half fully heals.
"What the hell?" I blurt out.
He steps forward, trying to grab my head. I move out of the way, and stab his back with my sword. He doesn't even blink, even though it goes straight through his torse. He pushes me off, I let go of my sword. The king walks up behind him. He looks like he's grown, and his body has become more hairy. His wings went from a see through, and built like a flies into more of a bird's. The man turns around. The king punches his face. The bones crumple, leaving the man screaming on the floor.
"You thought fairies couldn't fight back!" He scoffs.
"Was that really fairy strength?" I chuckle.
We start walking over to some more bandits, but the man stands back up. His face reforms just like his arm had.
"We're not done yet!" He ughs.
