Chapter 30 - Defense against the horde

Hearing what Civ mentioned, everyone from the top of the north wall felt a shiver in their spine. This is more dangerous than they thought.

With a haughty look, the thick boar left and right. When the boar and Civ eyes lock again, it stops in its tracks. Then it started munching. Its mouth is frothing, the expression of this boar is like it's already hunted its prey.

Everyone tightened their grip on their spears. Awaiting what's to come.

The stare down lasted for 3 minutes.

  GRUNT

  The boars started running.

The first wave that attacked the north side was 2 boars. They ran side by side. Every boar that ran at full speed met the barricades,

  RREEEEEE

Cries from the boars from the other side of the wall were heard by everyone.

  “Throw!” Civ commanded.

All four of them had a specific target. Aiming to deal a fatal blow. Two out of four were hit with a fatal blow on the neck. While the other two are still trying to escape from being impaled.

  REEEEE

With just that, they were able to kill two boars in a minute.

The first layer of the barricade was the only one affected by the attack.

  GRUUNT

The leader of the boars sent 5 more boars. Right now, running towards the pile of leaves, the boars ran through the gaps in the barricade.

Civ brows curled. He did not say anything yet and tried to observe.

Even with this attempt, they also met the same fate as the others.

Civ and the team dealt a final blow to these boars. They are getting more accurate as they throw more spears.

Witnessing the casualties of seven of its underlings. It starts stomping heavily.

  REEEEE!!!

With that scream, the leader and the rest started an all-out attack. Every barricade they placed, there was a boar that was impaled. But they ran over the dead body.

“Throw at will!” Civ let the team kill anything that was moving outside of the north wall. The three-layer barricade that was placed was all trampled. Now, six, including the leader, were able to get past the barricade. They ran side by side.

Civ and the team tried their best to throw the spears. But instead of slowing down, they are getting faster.

Civ looked behind and wanted to call for reinforcements.

“Hunting team from the other side, come her-” But before he can finish. The worst case happened.

“BOARS!” Both the south and east sides of the camp simultaneously shouted. They saw boars that were running at full speed.

‘DAMMIT!’ Civ have no choice but to face the main force head-on.

The boars in were able to reach the wall and -

  BAAAAM

The wall shakes from the charge of the boars. Civ and other defenders on the wall hold to their ladders as it starts to shake.

Civ looks down. He saw that the four boars were heavily injured and trying to charge at the last minute.

  BAM

  The wall shakes again.

AAHHHHH Pil and Kivrah fell from the ladder.

“Father! Pil!” Civ looked at the two who fell.

Kivrah also looked at Pil, who was able to roll over as he fell.

“We are fine!” Hearing that the two were fine, Civ looked outside.

The only one who was ramming the wall was the leader. All of his underlings had either died or in the brink of dying due to the injuries.

The leader was not that injured because it ran in the middle.

Where Civ did not place many of the barricades. Aside from an escape route for the scouts, this is the best place to kill the target. However, the plan did not come true. The boar started attacking from all directions. They were unable to focus the assault on one location.

The ramming from the leader gets stronger and stronger. Since the boar was below them, he threw the spear without the atlatl anymore.

  TSUN

It penetrated the skin of the boar, but Civ felt that it did not do much damage.

But a couple of ramming later -

  DUUUNN

The tusk of the boar penetrated the gaps of the wall, and it started to see an opening. When the leader sees it. It got more aggressive and violently smashed its head on the opening. The smashing shook the ladder of Ras and Civ.

“Ugh!” Both of them also fell off the ladder.

They also roll over when they hit the ground, but as they look at the wall.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

  CRRAAAACCK!!

The leader of the boars was able to break the middle part of the wall.

A haughty gaze appeared on the boar as he saw multiple humans behind the wall. He looks at them like a sumptuous meal.

  REEEEE!!!

The boar shouted. Everyone covered their ears, and the boar started charging.

Pil tried to stop the boar. But when he got closer, he was thrown into the air by the boar.

Ras also tried, but he encountered the same fate.

The boar starts running. Nothing else to hesitate, Civ followed the boar and jumped onto its back. Grabbing the hair.

The ride was bumpy, but Civ tried his best to make sure he could place his body on the top of the boar. Civ clipped his legs to the boar. When he got the balance, he grabbed the stone knife from his hip.

“Let's see if you can still see!” Civ stabs the right eye of the boar. It starts screaming and jumping like a bull.

  REEEEE!

Civ stabs another one, and another one, and another. Every time he stabs the eyes, blood splatters on his face. He stabbed its face nonstop. The boar tried its best to shake what was hurting it. But the Civ’s grip from this boar was unshakable. The boar slowed down.

“Everyone, stab it!” Civ, still holding his dear life onto the boar, commanded the group around him. Everyone near him starts grabbing spears and stabbing the boar.

  REEEEeeeee-!

It was the last cry from this boar.

When the boar fell down, Civ released his grip and rolled over away from the boar.

With that impact, Civ makes sense of the current situation, as he was disoriented. What he only heard was people shouting aggressively.

  “Stab it!”

  “RAAAAA!”

  “DIE!!”

He lifted his head up. He saw his tribesmen stabbing the leader from all sides. They only stopped when Kivrah commanded them.

On the other side, he also heard some shouting. But he smiled.

  “We killed it!”

The east and south side was also cleared.

  But before they can rejoice.

“There are boars coming from the west!” Safi shouted.

“How?!” Civ and the hunting team were also puzzled. That side is not passable due to the cave.

  STOMP

  STOMP

  STOMP

Two other boars are charging towards the fence. Horm and Arsh did not waste time and jumped on their ladder.

They ran toward the west wall. Civ tried to run, but he felt a stinging pain in his right leg. It's shaking. Kivrah assisted Civ and put his son’s hand over his shoulder.

Horm and Arsh do not want to let these boars get past the fence. With the help of their tribemen, they start throwing spears at the boars.

  TSUN TSUN TSUN

  TSUN TSUN TSUN

  TSUN TSUN TSUN

The boars were significantly injured. Both of which looked like a porcupine for the number of spears that hit them. They were almost reaching the fence. Then both of them screamed at the crowd.

  REEEEEeee-

  REEEEEeee-

Both of them died where they stood.

Arsh looked at Safi. “Safi, tell me the situation.”

The crowd went silent as Safi closed her eyes. “I am not hearing anything right now!”

Kivrah assisted Civ as they walked toward the crowd on the west.

When he heard the confirmation for Safi. “Well done everyone! We are able to defeat a boar horde!”

The crowds cheered and cried in happiness. They only want to save their lives and protect their camp. The triumphant battle is one of the memories they will not forget. They saw themselves as one of the creatures that hides from the sight of these boars. But right now, they were able to defeat them using their mind.

“Praise the Sun Goddess! Praise the Chosen One!”

A chant started to echo in the crowd, and everyone started chanting it also.

“Praise the Sun Goddess! Praise the Chosen One!”

“Praise the Sun Goddess! Praise the Chosen One!”

Kivrah let his tribesmen celebrate. Bring his son back to the Shaman.

At the Shaman’s hut, Shaman Mashu was already busy. What Civ and Kivrah came across were Pil and Ras. They are also in pain.

Civ remembered that they both faced the leader of the boars to stop it. But it was sent flying by it.

“Father, you can leave me here. Please help our tribesmen clean the camp.” Civ sat down and waited for his turn to be attended to.

Kivrah nodded and left quickly to oversee the camp.

When Civ looked at Ras and Pil, the injury was most likely on their rib cage.

‘That boar is too strong to fight one on one.’ He just shakes his head and lies down.

While waiting, he checked his right leg. It hurts, but it’s still bearable. Being dragged and almost pinned by the full weight of the boar, this injury was close to a miracle.

A couple of minutes later, Shaman Mashu starts tending his wound. She put some ointment on the wounds and scratches on Civ’s leg and arms.

“Ouch! Again, thank you, Shaman, for the guidance. Without your warning, this might not be possible. We will have a hard time defending the camp.” Civ still tried to smile behind the pain.

Civ has a full idea of how to defend this camp from the boars. But because he was complacent about fortifying the west wall, this is one of the flaws. If Civ did not place any barricades from all sides. Let Safi and Luk guard the west wall without initial defences. There might be casualties caused by the horde.

“Do not thank me. I’m just saying what the Sun Goddess wants to say.” Shaman Mashu smiled as she placed the final ointments.

“Just rest for the day here. I’ll have your Father know.” Shaman Mashu cleaned the place and left.

Civ looked above where the sunlight was entering the camp. “Guidance from a God.”

  Being tired, Civ fell asleep.

When he woke up. It was almost night. He heard laughter and chatting outside. Checking his right leg, the pain is almost gone. Ras and Pil were also still asleep. The upper part of their body was wrapped in a brown leaf.

‘They sleep like babies.’ Civ smiled and felt relieved. He thought the two of them would die on that attack. Luckily, they were able to survive. Civ stood up and left the tent.

When he went outside. He was welcomed by a cheerful atmosphere, and a smell of roasted boar caught his attention.

“The Chosen One is awake!” Someone from the crowd noticed Civ slowly walking towards them.

  “CCCIIIVVVV”

“Woah, woah, whoah. Be careful Horm!” Civ stops Horm as his friend hugs him and starts crying.

“I’m glad you are better right now!” Horm hugged him tightly.

“AHK! Horm Stop! Stop!” The crowd laughs, looking at Civ’s struggle.

“Horm stops hugging son. He might need to go back to the Shaman’s hut if you injured him again.” Horm put down Civ and assisted him in walking to the middle.

Everyone was waiting for the boar meat they had roasted to cook.

Kivrah looked at his Son, “Civ.”

Based on the look on his father, he understood it and nodded.

“My fellow tribesmen. I thank everyone for doing their best to defend our camp. This is only the beginning. Once again, I ask for your help in our future battles.” Civ slightly bowed to the crowd.

“Praise the Chosen One!” Everyone chanted.

“Now let's eat!” With Kivrah’s command, everyone took their time to eat.

After the feast, Kivrah, Civ, and the hunting team gathered.

In front of them was the pile of boars.

“So what do you think we need to do on these meat Civ?”
