Haruki's next move shocked everyone in the stadium.
The water-composed bde in his hand suddenly pulsed outward. A massive volume of moisture was drawn from the atmosphere and instantly fsh-frozen, turning the entire dueling ptform into a jagged wastend of ice.
The frost spread with such speed that Tohka Todo found her feet anchored to the ground. Even if she could break free through raw mana—which would only take a few seconds—those seconds were exactly what Haruki needed.
Rumble!
Haruki activated Highnder. His speed reached a threshold that transcended human sight. He lunged toward the frozen President.
At that exact moment, Tohka shattered the ice binding her. Without a moment's dey, she unleashed her ultimate technique: Raikiri!
BOOM!
Haruki's pressurized water bde collided with the electromagnetic discharge of the Raikiri.
A violent shockwave erupted from the point of impact, tearing through the air and shattering the arena's floor. The secondary bst hit the spectator stands, forcing students to shield their eyes. The wind pressure was so intense that an ordinary person wouldn't have been able to stand.
In terms of pure destructive power, the resonance of the water bde and the lightning strike were evenly matched. Haruki's technical mastery allowed his speed to rival Tohka's draw. On the surface, the csh looked like a draw.
However, as the dust settled and the winds died down, the crowd witnessed a sight that left them breathless.
Tohka Todo was on the ground. Her Device had vanished, and she was completely unconscious.
Because the exchange had been so chaotic, most people didn't understand how it had ended. Only a few high-level observers saw the truth: Haruki's strike had hit twice. He had achieved a "Double Strike" within a single motion.
The first hit had neutralized the Raikiri. The second had bypassed her guard and ended the match.
"Raikiri has been broken! Aizawa-kun has defeated President Todo!!"
The referee's official decration rang out alongside the announcer's scream. The results were in. Haruki Aizawa had defeated the strongest Bzer at Hagun Academy.
He was now the undisputed king of the campus.
The reactions were a mix of awe, confusion, and disbelief. Most people couldn't fathom how the "Invincible" draw had been countered. Even those who saw the double hit couldn't expin the mechanics behind it.
Haruki didn't feel like expining. The "Double Strike" was a fundamental technique of his Wuju Style—a rhythmic manipution that allowed a second strike to follow the first so closely they appeared simultaneous.
Hoo...
Haruki exhaled, feeling a sense of refreshing crity. Fighting a master like Tohka had sharpened his understanding of the sword. More importantly, the Sword Saint Evolution System finally showed a significant jump in experience. Even if he hadn't killed her, the system recognized the significance of defeating a warrior of her caliber.
The Multiverse System also updated:
[Target World: Chivalry of a Failed Knight]
[Mission: Win the Hagun Selection Matches]
[Progress: 70%]
Defeating Tohka had pushed his progress significantly. Only a few matches remained. At this point, the only obstacles left were Ikki, Shizuku, and Stel.
Shizuku was already neutralized by their compatibility. Stel was a powerhouse, but her technique was still too raw to threaten him. That left only Ikki Kurogane as a potential wild card.
As if on cue, Haruki's Student Handbook vibrated as he stepped off the ptform.
[Selection Match: Final Round]
[Opponent: Ikki Kurogane]
The news of the impending csh between Haruki and Ikki spread through the school in minutes. By defeating Tohka, Haruki was the de facto #1. By defeating Stel, Ikki had become the hope of the low-rank students. This was the ultimate showdown.
"I won't lose to you, Haruki," Ikki said when they met ter. "You're stronger than I ever imagined, but as a swordsman, I can't give up on victory. Besides... for personal reasons, I must win this festival."
"Reasons?" Haruki asked.
Ikki didn't hide it anymore. "I'm a 'Worst One.' I was supposed to be expelled. Chairperson Shinguji gave me a second chance, but it came with a condition: I have to win the Seven Star Sword Art Festival to graduate as a knight."
"I see."
Haruki understood his desperation. But he wouldn't hold back. To hold back in a duel was the ultimate insult to a fellow warrior. If they were to fight, it would be with everything they had.
However, just as they were preparing for their scheduled match, an unexpected visitor arrived to derail everything.
A man in a sharp bck suit with a face like a toad walked onto the campus, fnked by official-looking guards.
"Oh... found you at st. You certainly made me work for it." The man's voice was oily and arrogant. "Long time no see, Ikki. Heh heh."
"Who is this guy?" Stel asked, her brow furrowing.
"This is Mamoru Akaza," Ikki said, his voice turning cold and rigid. "He is the head of a branch of the Kurogane family."
Akaza smirked. "Don't look so scared, Ikki. I'm only here because of a piece of trash like you. I had to travel all this way to this 'bottom-tier' school."
"Trash?" Stel's eyes widened. She had never heard someone speak to Ikki with such btant contempt.
Akaza turned to Stel, his face morphing into a mask of fake servility. "Ah, Princess Stel. My apologies. A failure like Ikki must have caused you so much trouble. On behalf of the Kurogane cn, I apologize for his existence. An F-Rank is little more than a stain on our name."
"What are you talking about? Ikki hasn't done anything wrong!"
"Oh, but he has." Akaza's voice shifted back to a cold, official tone. "I am here in my capacity as the head of the Ethics Committee for the Japan branch of the Magic Knight League. We are here to discuss a very serious matter regarding Ikki."
"What matter?"
"Our investigation shows that during his time at Hagun, Ikki Kurogane has engaged in inappropriate conduct with several female students. We even have reports that he attempted to harass you, Princess Stel. To ensure he does not cause further scandal, the Committee is taking him into custody effectively immediately."
"Wait, what?!" Ikki panicked. "I have my final selection match! I have to fight Haruki!"
"Forget that nonsense! An F-Rank has no business fighting in a prestigious tournament," Akaza barked. "Your father, Itsuki Kurogane, has personally authorized your arrest to protect the family's honor. You have no right to refuse."
Ikki froze. The mention of his father—the man who had ignored and oppressed him his entire life—seemed to drain the strength from his limbs.
As Akaza reached out to grab Ikki, Haruki Aizawa stepped forward, blocking his path.
"Ethics Committee?" Haruki asked, his voice low. "You're accusing him of crimes. Where is your evidence?"
"Evidence?" Akaza looked at Haruki, his lip curling in disgust. He saw a student with a C-Rank ID. "Why would I discuss official business with a commoner? Be a good little student and get out of the way."
Akaza was an elitist through and through. He respected Stel's rank and bloodline, but a "nobody" like Haruki meant nothing to him. It was the same mindset that had made Ikki's life a living hell.
Most people would have backed down. Haruki didn't. He stepped into Akaza's personal space and gripped the man's shoulder. He didn't use a weapon, but the sheer killing intent radiating from him made Akaza's heart skip a beat.
"I said," Haruki whispered, his voice like a funeral bell. "I want the evidence."
"Y-You... do you dare defy an order from the Magic Knight League?!" Akaza stammered, his face turning a sickly shade of gray as his knees began to tremble.
