Tohka Todo didn't just keep up with Haruki's movements; she seemed to be predicting them, moving her bde to intercept his before he even fully committed to a strike.
"Is this your true power?" Haruki asked, intrigued.
Faced with his question, Tohka didn't hesitate to expin. "I apologize for holding back earlier. Haruki-kun, you've likely noticed that whenever I get truly serious, I remove my gsses. It's because I need to shut out my normal sight to sharpen my other senses. Against an opponent of your caliber, I simply can't afford any distractions."
"Sensory deprivation, then..."
"In a manner of speaking. My Bzer ability allows me to control lightning. By closing my eyes, I can perceive the minute bio-electric signals flowing through my opponent's nervous system. By reading those signals, I can see your intent and your movement path before your body even reacts. After all, the brain must send a signal to the nerves before a limb can move."
"I see. A localized form of mind-reading," Haruki noted.
He finally understood the shift. Humans are biological machines, and their actions are governed by electrical impulses. If she could track those signals, she could effectively "see" his thoughts and predict his movements with absolute accuracy.
"This is my Noble Art—Shigan (Logic Sight). It's simir to Ikki Kurogane's Bde Steal in that it reads the opponent to gain an advantage. However, while Ikki observes the surface, I perceive the internal workings. Feints, traps, and sudden shifts in logic are useless before me. I see them all before they happen."
True to her word, Tohka used her Shigan to perfectly read Haruki's intentions. Every time he swung, she was already there, her bde positioned to deflect his strikes with minimal effort.
In this state, even if Haruki possessed superior swordsmanship, he couldn't win against someone who knew exactly what he was going to do. Most people would have been forced to look for an opening elsewhere or give up on kendo entirely.
But Haruki's response defied all logic.
Standing before Tohka and her "Cheat-level" vision, Haruki slowly closed his own eyes. He stood there, rexed and seemingly defenseless, in the middle of the arena.
"Haruki... what are you doing?" Tohka blinked, confused.
Just as she thought he might be surrendering—
Fwoosh!
A terrifyingly fast strike whistled through the air. Tohka saw Haruki's bde appearing before her in a violent arc. Using her Shigan, she read the signal for a horizontal ssh and moved her bde to parry.
But at the exact micro-second of impact, the "signal" shifted. The bde twisted in mid-air, changing direction with impossible fluidity and coming at her from a completely different angle!
CLANG!
Caught off guard, Tohka was forced to take the hit. The impact sent her reeling back several meters.
As she steadied herself, she found herself at a loss for words. To the audience, it looked like Haruki had simply used a clever feint to trick her. But Tohka knew better. In the domain of Shigan, there were no accidents.
If Haruki had intended to feint, his nerves would have telegraphed that intent. But he hadn't. He had bypassed her prediction entirely. There was only one expnation that made sense.
He hadn't just bypassed her sight—he had understood the essence of her Shigan and surpassed it.
But he isn't a lightning-user. How could he possibly counter my vision? What is his actual ability?
"Are you... a simir type of Bzer to me?" Tohka asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"No," Haruki replied immediately. "I don't control lightning. But you were right about one thing: I just mastered your Shigan."
"What?!"
Haruki proved his words with action. He lunged again.
Snap!
The battle shifted instantly. Tohka, who had been dominating with her predictions, was now the one being suppressed. Every time she tried to read his nerves and move, Haruki was already one step ahead, predicting her "prediction" and moving to counter it before she could even finish her thought.
It was like a high-speed game of chess. In this realm of combat, the one who can see the most moves ahead wins.
Tohka had spent years perfecting her Shigan, but Haruki—using the Wave Arts—had mastered it in seconds. His Mind's Eye didn't just track bio-electric signals; it tracked the "Wave" of her entire being—her heart rate, her blood flow, the very vibration of her intent.
Haruki was now pying with "Wall-hacks" that were far more comprehensive than hers.
"The President is being pushed back?!"
"Is she going to lose?"
"That's impossible!"
The audience was in an uproar. They had expected a hard-fought battle, but they were witnessing the undisputed Rank 1 of the school being systematically dismantled by a transfer student.
"At first, they seemed evenly matched, but now President Todo is fighting for her life just to stay in the ring! What on earth is causing this massive gap in performance?!" the announcer screamed into the mic.
She couldn't understand it. No one could. On paper, a C-Rank should not be able to suppress a B-Rank veteran this way. Some in the crowd even whispered about cheating, but there was no "cheat" that could account for this level of technical dominance.
"How is he doing this?" Stel asked, her eyes wide as she leaned over the railing.
Ikki Kurogane remained calm, though his expression was solemn. "I underestimated him again... Haruki truly is a bottomless pit of talent."
"Brother, do you see what's happening?" Shizuku asked, her eyes never leaving Haruki.
"I don't fully understand the 'how,' but the result is clear," Ikki expined. "Haruki has completely deconstructed the President's style. It's like what I did to Stel with Bde Steal, but Haruki is doing it on a fundamental, internal level. Her sword can't reach him because he knows where it's going before she even decides to move."
"Hahaha! It seems we have some observant students after all."
The group turned to see Chairperson Kurono Shinguji and Nene Saikyo standing behind them.
Nene gave a sharp grin. "Tohka is a genius in her own right, but she's a 'standard' genius. Haruki and Ikki... they're monsters. Once Haruki enters the zone of pure technique, a standard fighter simply can't compete. Tohka is out of her league in a direct sword duel."
"Does that mean Haruki has already won?" Stel asked.
"Not yet," Nene waved her fan. "Bzer duels aren't just about technique. When technical skill fails, the true winner is decided by the ultimate trump card."
"The Trump Card... you mean Raikiri?" Shizuku whispered.
The group fell into a tense silence. It was true. Tohka Todo had yet to unleash her legendary Noble Art. The final result would depend on whether Haruki could survive the "Invincible" draw.
Having mastered the frequency of Tohka's nervous system, Haruki had her cornered. Even when she used electromagnetic pulses to try and disrupt his bance, his Wave Perception allowed him to brace himself before the energy even hit him.
He was essentially using a superior version of her own power against her.
"I can't believe this..." Tohka whispered, a wave of frustration and respect washing over her.
She realized that in a contest of skill and prediction, she had lost. But as a Magic Knight, she had one final duty.
"I'm sorry, Haruki-kun... but I refuse to lose here!"
Tohka suddenly snapped her bde back into its sheath.
At that moment, the atmosphere in the stadium changed. Violent arcs of golden lightning erupted from her body, coiling around her like a storm. The ground beneath her feet began to crack and vitrify from the intense heat and electrical discharge.
This was the preparation for Raikiri.
Haruki felt a surge of genuine excitement. He dismissed the spectral bde Onibi, allowing the Ghost Qi to dissipate. Instead, he raised his right hand.
SHHHH—!
Suddenly, a violent swirl of water began to condense in his palm. He drew moisture from the humid air of the arena, compressing it with his Mana until it formed a bde of high-pressure, rotating liquid.
This was the Bde of Flowing Water he had been practicing with Shizuku. But Haruki wasn't finished.
He knew that pressurized water alone couldn't beat the speed of light. To surpass the lightning, he had to add another yer of resonance.
"Ice Wave Sword!"
As the audience watched in total shock, Haruki began to freeze the rotating water bde from the inside out, creating a weapon that combined the fluid lethality of a high-pressure jet with the piercing, absolute cold of a gcier.
Haruki leveled the frozen-water bde at Tohka. He was no longer just a swordsman; he was a force of nature.
"Come," Haruki said, his voice echoing through the electrified air. "Let's see whose bde is faster."
