It made me really wonder why my brother's father had anything to do with the opening of portals. He is dead, but he did a deed and saved many citizens. Having the portals reopened should not even be a possibility.
"The portals got closed that day, from what my brother told me. Lark sacrificed his life. If the portal is closed, it should not be able to open for all species in Valiant?"
"True, but the rumor is that the one who started the device has a generation alive after...a human!"
"Wait...Wait a fucking minute. Even if you say that it can be just a little bit true in all this, where did you get the information, and how?"
"The boy explained it to me. That is also why I was on the train, he told me that a Villain and an Assassin would help me. I would not have taken the risk of waiting for the train if I had known that some form of help would come my way. The bounty on me says kill on sight; I have a death sentence that is waiting for me if I get caught."
"Box!"
The damn Box showed up in the air quietly.
"What is the mission for this stage?" I asked it.
A question mark appeared inside the Box, as if it was thinking, and then it answered:
"Save the citizens from slavery and eliminate the enemies."
Looked at Tinker, who held her head low, which was right as Mejni and I had been on a damn suicide mission all this time.
"Is that the real mission?"
The question mark popped up again, and it started shaking in the air when it turned green.
"Game Master has permitted me to answer extra questions, but Game Master has no power over me, and I will only answer questions I see fit or relevant for the game as long as the Game Master provides me with the extra information."
"Are you a part of The Game Master?" I asked it.
"No, I am an Artificial Intelligence created at the same time as all the Fallen Kingdoms were closed for the rest of Valiant."
"Why was it closed off?"
"The ones calling themselves The Super Heroes discovered the 10th bomb. If the bomb were to explode, it would take the 8th and 9th bombs together with it, killing over a million citizens in the LITRPG Kingdom, Farmer Kingdom, and the Elves Kingdom."
"What, is this not a game?"
"Yes, it is a game."
"Then why do you care about the bombs going off?"
"The game has added functionalities. The Fallen Kingdoms belong to Valiant, and Valiant still has different species alive. You are playing the game for real; extra characters got added to the game to immerse the experience for the players."
Is the Box kidding with me? Extra characters, for what? Getting killed hardcore style. The stars at the beginning of the game reminded me of a game I played when I was a kid; something is not right here.
"Did the game world get created just a while ago? How was everything created?"
"No, the game world's creation started five years ago; the game master only activated the game recently."
Tinker was on her way to say something, but I raised my hand, stopping her. I need to know where all the creativity has come from.
"How did your Game Master get all the ideas for the game?"
"The Game Master lived on Earth many years ago and played many games there, created by humans. After the Game Master returned to the Fallen Kingdoms, he began creating the game world to protect the Fallen Kingdoms and to hinder evil from reaching Earth."
"Is the Fallen Kingdoms based on the games that the boy played?"
"Yes, some name changes have been made. Something that will be corrected if or when a bomb is disabled, and the citizens get their freedom."
"What can we expect moving forward. The cat and I have not come here to play the game."
"Each kingdom has different genres, which your team will be involved in. Team Van Polan will be playing in the following categories. In the Action Category, there are Platformers, TPS, Battle Royale, Survival, and Action-Adventure to help you experience a story-driven narrative. Moving on to the next category, RPG, including the following: Action-RPG, MML-RPG, JRPG, LITRPG, and Dungeon Crawling, which is in Dungeon Kingdom. Moving on to the next categories, we have: Sports, Puzzle-solving, Horror, Racing, MLBA, Roguelike, and Visual Novel Romance. All categories and sub-genres can have additional categories added to the game; for example, when you were jumping on logs, it came from the platform genre, and when the creature you killed shattered into small cubes."
Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.
“Sea cual sea la categoría, ?por qué suena tan bien?(Whatever category, why does it sound so good?)”
Looked at Mejni, scratching my head about whatever he had asked, the dark tone in his voice sounded like a Spanish melodrama. To make matters worse, I have no clue what half the genres even mean.
"Okay, I get it. Stuff got added in the Fallen Kingdoms. Still, was it meant for the cat and me to be in the game?"
"No, it was not. The Game Master had been looking for a specific player he felt could progress in the game, but could not find that person. With self-proclaimed Super Heroes created by the Evil forces to manipulate the citizens and take over a couple of the Kingdoms, he saw the need for something on the opposite side. He calculated that his old caretaker, who was visiting to help out, had an archenemy who had killed her father. He went to work on the preparations, and before the Super Heroes progressed, he activated the game, shutting off all areas, and we knew her guards would not make it to the princess. Sadly, some casualties had to occur, but it was not the Game Master's fault. It was the residence of the Valiant queen, who tried to send resources to the Game world to find her daughter, but to no avail, as they died in an instant. That is where you come in, Berk Van Polan, the powerful Kingslayer. They sent you and the assassin into the game. What I could see was that you had barely any powers when I met you, and your companion was only at level Medium. What I could not accept was you bringing The Book Of Knowledge into the game, which maps out all the Fallen Kingdoms, so I restricted its access to helping you. The book can still open ports of its history with the help of your connected comrades, but we are doing all in our power in the game to stop it from acting out. It seems, when this happens, it is you who are forcing the portals to open."
Tinker and Mejni looked at me. I am not trusting this shitty Box; it could be telling us lies, too.
"All this shit, for what, so we can play your little game. I am not here to play the game; we only need to do what we are here for. Why can't you fix yourself instead, and end everything, and if the boy is so powerful, he could have killed all the enemies here, could he not?"
"No, there are darker forces ahead of your journey, Berk Van Polan. That is the only answer the Game Master is responding to your question."
What a frustrating boy, I am going to beat the shit out of him if I ever meet him.
"I barely have any powers, and the cat is just here as a super ugly, but cute pet, and the psychopathic bomber girl is just there. Why are we playing the game in Impossible mode?"
"You arrived in the game together with the assassin Meerkat. Scanning was conducted for all players, as they all have to undergo this process. The Meerkat was on level Medium until your scan, which is why you are playing in Impossible mode.
"What about the other players?"
"97 players entered in very easy mode, all have failed in their simple missions and perished. The game is in a free world, all players can move freely through the kingdoms, and we are not responsible if the player decides to derail from their missions."
"What about the other three players?
"The Princess of Valiant is still in the game, stuck in one of the Kingdoms, and can not move any further. You and the Meerkat are the other two players. Five more players will join from Valiant if you reach the MML-RPG stage. Two players will join first, followed by three more in the later stages from Valiant."
"I thought you said 100 players, where did the five come from?"
"When you arrived, I decided to send out five wildcard invitations to these players after the scanning occurred."
Talk about bad news, we are already playing in impossible mode, why did it send out five invitations?
"Why did you send out these invitations?"
"They are looking to destroy certain demons, and I saw it fit when playing in Impossible mode."
"What demons?"
"The demons inside you, Berk Van Polan, they are invited to the game to kill you. The souls of their Masters are inside you; it is an apprentice's job to uphold the heritage of their Masters powers. So, they will not allow someone else to wield the powers of their old Master. Be careful, Van Polan, when the time and stage are right, they will join the game, and their only mission is to make sure that you get destroyed."
"?Ohhhhhh! Alguien está en problemas.(Ohhhhhh! Someone is in trouble.)
The Box started to shake, and the green color disappeared.
"Can we disband as a team?"
"I am sorry! That is not a question that is open for answer when you are still on Level One."
What the fuck, did it become retarted?
"What is our mission?"
"To rescue the slaves and eliminate the enemies."
Got damn it, it's back to normal, go fuck yourself mode again.
It floated for a while before it disappeared.
"What are we going to do? Any plan?"
Running on the roof is not an option, as we cannot climb up the clay buildings that go quite high. Fuck my life, it is like the game is setting everything up for us to die. Grabbed Mejni and walked onto the road again, filled with what looked like soldiers and screaming citizens around the bazaar, trying to hustle goods from the stores.
"Déjame en medio del camino(Put me down in the middle of the road)." Mejni said, with his voice way too calm, without any of the usual energy.
The plaster cracked slightly, and I looked at him. He was way too calm.
"Look! I do not know what the hell you are saying, but I will ask questions, and you answer Si or No, okay?"
"Si"
"Do you want us to try and get up on the roof?"
"No"
Do you want us to get out on the road and try blending in with the crowd?"
"Si, No"
"What is happening?" Tinker asked, stepping out of the alley, risking further exposure in the crowd.
"One second, Tinker, I am trying to figure out what it is Mejni is trying to do."
The plaster head cracked completely as it fell to the ground, and Mejni moved his head around. He leaned downward towards the ground.
"You want me to put you down on the ground?"
"Si!"
Put him down in the middle of the road, and the cracking from plaster intensified as a weak yellow electricity surrounded his body, as the plaster completely broke down, and his body completely adjusted itself. What clearly looked like muscles bulged out from the legs, arms, back, and chest, and the citizens around looked horrified at him with all the clearly visible scars. The sound of thunder came from nowhere when a yellow bolt shot down on Mejni. He had something that looked like a knife, sparkling on his right hand, and I slowly backed away, feeling this must be really bad news.
"W-w-what is wrong with him this time?" Tinker asked.
The crowd scattered from the road, with several citizens escaping into the stores. It was only a lot of black-clad soldiers, suddenly standing still, staring at us.
Mejni turned to us, and both his eyes had turned red. Definitely bad, really fucking bad. He smiled at us and pressed his right leg back on the ground as the electricity got more intense around his body. In a swosh, where I only saw a little bit of yellow light moving in zigzags on the road, everything stopped with a steroid Mejni smiling in the middle of the road when a head with a black helmet on it rolled past Tinker and me.
"Fuck me!" was all I managed to get out.
