A few days later she was in a hotel looking up at the ceiling on a king sized bed. She sighed harshly, annoyed by the constant noise of thoughts going through her mind.
“Why can’t I follow the rules”
She rolled to her left side and looked at the pile of dirty clothing on the floor like her black crop top, her trousers, next to her rucksack that was leaning against the bedside table. She looked at the watch that was resting against the lamp on the table.
She sighed deeply, before getting up and got dressed in her dirty clothes. She walked towards the door where she heard a beautiful sound of a piano being played down the corridor; whilst she followed blissfully.
When Skyler reached the lobby of the hotel, she saw once again that same woman; with silky brown hair, and those silver eyes that shone like diamonds in the sunrise.
“Hello there, um…”
The woman looked up from the piano and smiled gently while standing up, also putting her hand out towards Skyler.
“Luna…Luna Deepwood”
Luna said quietly, Skyler picked up that Luna’s mannerisms were quite too posh for the sector that they were in.
“I think I heard of the Deepwood’s before”
Skyler thought to herself while shaking Luna’s hand; which was so smooth that it felt like a silky cloth.
“I see that you're confused about my surname right?”
Luna said, while she stood up and grabbed her bag; also flicking her dark brown hair.
“You’re thinking, how can I have the king’s surname?... Right if he didn’t have any children?”
Skyler nodded, surprised at how Luna knew what she was thinking which scared her a little.
“Am I that easy to read?”
Skyler thought to herself, but she couldn’t think for long because she saw that Luna was leaving her behind. So skyler quickly followed behind. Then Luna abruptly stopped in which skyler went through her which made skyler feel weird.
“Huh, what in the hell?”
Skyler shouted out, but when she looked back at Luna; she saw that Luna was flickering in the sun like a mirage. Then her eyes noticed Luna’s hand pointing
towards a thick forest with something poking out from it which she couldn’t distinguish from this far away. Since the forest was near the border to the Umbra sector; the factory sector.
“Over there is my house, my prison cell”
Luna said bluntly, lowering her head trying to hide her eyes from Skyler. Skyler knew that look, she used it a lot when she was younger trying to figure out why her mother stabbed her but over the years she stopped trying to act as a victim and move on with her life.
“Prison?”
Skyler whispered under her breath.
“Yes, prison since im…”
Before Luna finished her sentence she disappeared into smoke which Skylar knew that Luna had used up her ether by using a spell to communicate with her which was called afterimage: which uses the users ether, and the sun’s rays to project an hologram to the intended target. for a brief period before either the user’s ether runs out or the sun gets blocked by a cloud.
Skyler walked back until she hit a lamppost that she almost punched on instinct. Then she leaned against it and took a long look at the forest.
“I should repost this to Justin.”
She muttered, while her finger was reaching for the watch on the other hand. But when she was about to call him
“He wouldn’t want me to call him since he said that he didn’t want to see me again”
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Skyler scratched her head in annoyance at her indecision about what to do. She turned around and punched the lamppost letting out her anger.
“Damm it!”
She yelled out angrily, then sighed softly pounding the post.
“If you want to be a protector you need to be apart of a team Skyler”
She whispered to herself, whilst looking at the unlocked watch. It was displaying Justin’s contact. Skyler reluctantly pressed the call button and waited for his answer.
It rang for a good half an hour before it went to voicemail.
“This is the protector moonlight’s voice box thanks for the call but I might be busy sorry.”
“Justin I’m going to the aqua sector’s forest I got a feeling that something not right in the forest so I’m going there please bring back up when you get this”
With that Skyler hung up and started to walk towards the car park. The splashes of the water underneath her feet was almost pleasant enough to distract her from her thoughts of being a people pleaser.
“Why did I disobey Justin, agh”
Skyler whispered while she stopped and looked at her reflection in the water. Her hair was scruffy from not being brushed. She stroked her hair to make it more smooth as best as she could.
With her hair being fixed she went back on her way towards the carpark. To her displeasure, she saw that it was a complex; which was about three stories high. It was filled to the brim with different vehicles.
She sighed and walked to a tablet that was coming up from the floor, its watery droplets hitting the floor keeping the water path stable. She touched it, it felt so smooth but slimy at the same time, Skyler shivered from the cold feeling from its slimy surface.
“Okay so where’s my bike the guard said that it was impounded here”
Skyler thought, while she skimmed through the tablet and the many cars, motorcycles, vans, trucks registered. She sighed until she saw it, which made her smile since her bike was a gift from her adoptive father on her sixteenth birthday.
“I miss you”
Skyler whispered softly, as a single tear rolled down her cheek, and it hit the floor softly making tiny ripples from the impact. With her other hand she whipped her eyes clearing out the building up tears. She gulped and removed her hand and finger from the tablet and walked into the complex.
She pressed a button and a close by ding she heard and she turned her head towards it and saw the doors of the elevator open. She smiled and entered it quickly, before it shuts then she proceeds to push the third floor button and it jutted to life.
It stopped on the top floor of the complex, the doors opened and Skyler saw that a faint white arrow was on the floor in front of her. She looked at the arrow as it began to move forwards to a destination.
“Well, follow the leader I guess”
Skyler muttered, while shrugging then she followed it. She sighed, then she looked to her left then to her right; which was filled with many high end cars which made her feel insecure about her finances.
She made it to her bike as it gleamed in the sunset’s rays, she smiled and stroked the bike gently to say that she was back. Then she put on her gear; for riding the bike and then sat on it with ease.
“Here we go, time to save a person”
She said, whilst smirking then lowering her visor and started the engine which rumbled loudly. She gripped the handle bars tightly, she noticed the watch’s screen and it showed that Justin didn’t call her back.
She felt a bit sad but understood that he wouldn’t want to stay in contact with the person who disobeyed his orders. Also seeing his fiancee being strangled by her. She shook her head then took off the brake and scooted the bike out of its space then put her feet in the holders of it as it gained speed.
It went down many ramps until she got out of the complex. The sun’s rays bounce off her visor; But it didn’t stop her from seeing the road ahead. She gained even more speed whilst it went down the dual carriage way.
She was used to these speeds and she loved every second of it. Zooming past other cars that were travelling down as well. To her It was a thrilling experience.
When she got to the woods she saw a roof popping out from some trees, she came slowly to a stop; next to a thick tree. Then Skyler skillfully got off the bike and removed her biker gear from her person and put it into the storage of the bike.
She shivered from the loss of layers and the cold breeze that hit her hard since the wind was quite strong where she parked. She felt annoyed that she didn’t bring any warmer clothing, but she knew she couldn’t complain since it was her fault in the first place.
She looked around the area and grabbed some wet branches with thick leaves that could cover her bike well. She smiled at the perfect length of the leaves, to where her motorcycle couldn’t be seen from far away; which made her pump her fist into the air in triumph.
“Let's see what Luna wanted.”
Skyler muttered to herself whilst starting to trek forward; into the dense forest. The ground crackled underneath her steps from the twigs and wet fallen leaves that were scattered along the ground. The only thing that could see of the manor was the brick chimney with vines along it.
She kept following a semi decent path towards it trying not to lose herself in the forestry. But to her shock the sun started to set, and the light grew dimmer and dimmer; as the sun dipped behind a mountain.
Mist started to rise from the sudden coldness of the night. Skyler grumbled as the only light source that she had was her own watch, which she knew that the ether in it would soon run out. So she quickened her pace, dodging many branches and stumps as she could.
She could hear the nightlife starting to wake up which made her feel panic but she took a deep breath while trying to calm herself down. The howls of far away wolves were continuously ringing in her head reminding her that this was not a safe place to take a breather.
But her body was telling her to stop, by making them ache so badly they could fall off at any moment that they can. So she ignored her body’s cries and carried on, which she knew would bite her in the ass; in the future.
“Few yards more come on body”
Skyler yelled, while the pain in her body worsened, but as it did she saw the manor coming into view more. She could tell that it had red bricks, huge arches of windows with pillars along the side of the building. There was also thick moss growing along the walls as well.
When she got closer she noticed that it had a huge bar of fence along the perimeter of the manor which to her it sucked. She knew to get in she would have to scale the bars, which she didn’t have any clue on how to do.
She looked to her left, and she saw a low-hanging vine. The vine was coming down from the oak tree behind the bars. She took the vine in both hands and started to scale the fence; with great effort.
The bars were slippery; it was hard for her to plant her feet on the cylinders, since they were wet from the mist. But she was determined to see this through. So when she got to the top, she fell onto the muddy ground silently. Her heels absorbed the noise and the brunt of the impact of landing.
She was pleased that no one saw her climb the fence. Skyler knew that any moment the guards might come because it might have motion detectors and cameras.
She quickly looked around the building to see if there were any openings. To her pleasure she saw a little crack at the back door. Then she frowned as she saw that a guard was stationed outside it.
“Dammit”
She muttered quietly as she approached the guard whilst being crouched her feet were slowly hitting the floor muting any noise that came of it. Skyler saw the perfect time to strike and she hid against the wall, waiting for him to move.
A few minutes passed by very fast and Skyler saw that the guard was approaching her hiding place which made her happy. She jumped out from the corner and wrapped her arms around his neck and squeezed it until she could feel their body slumping into her arms. And collapse onto the floor.
She expertly maneuvered them to a tree that no one could see easily and hid them leaning against the wood behind the tree. She sighed and then walked to the door and grabbed the handle and slowly opened it.
