The first day of Sylvia’s journey was an eventful one. She faced many dangers in the span of one day — it wasn’t a normal first day but she enjoyed every second of it. After completing the wolf commission, she managed to get enough coins to afford one night in the cheapest inn and buy one st meal before going to sleep.
The next day rolled around. Birds chirped, the wind whistled gently outside the inn’s windows, and the streets buzzed with life as people carried out their daily activities. Yet, amidst the lively sounds of the town, Sylvia remained asleep, unmoving like a stone.
As the sun reached its peak, Sylvia finally woke up.
“Ugh… Why is it so bright… How long did I sleep for…?” Sylvia mumbled, as she rubbed her eyes. After she’s done, she stands up and decides to look out through the window to see where the sun is at.
“IT’S ALREADY AFTERNOON??? Okay, it’s time to do something productive!”
Sylvia then went downstairs, greeted the receptionist and went back to the commission center. She didn’t have the time to ask about anything yesterday so she figured that today, she had to get some information about the commission center. After a short walk, she reached the commission center building and immediately went to the receptionist.
“Hey I’m back! I want to ask a few things about how you do things around here~” Sylvia said energetically.
“You’re the girl from yesterday, sure you can ask anything! Before you do though, are you interested in registering yourself as an adventurer?”
“Oh you mentioned that you couldn’t guarantee my safety or something like that yesterday, is that part of the adventurer program?” asked Sylvia.
“You surmised correctly! Once you register yourself as an adventurer, we’ll add your name to the database. If we see that you’re in danger, we can send in someone to help you. Of course that’s not the only benefit you’ll get if you register yourself as an adventurer.”
“Well, seeing that this is the most interesting job I can do, count me in!”
“Great! Can you put your hand on this stone tablet for a second? After that, you’ll only have to wait for ten minutes and then you can officially call yourself an adventurer.”
“Alright!”
Sylvia put her hand on the stone tablet which soon glowed and emitted a blue light. She was in awe, she had never known that memorias could be used like this. The receptionist soon gestured to Sylvia to lift her hand up and wait until the process was completed. As she was waiting, she was called out by someone from a distance.
“Hey young fel, I’m guessing that this is your first job?” said the person. He looked to be in his 30s. Although they weren’t standing close to each other, it was clear that there was a massive height difference between him and Sylvia. He had ruffled brown hair and wielded a giant war axe on his back. Although they had never met before, Sylvia knew that he had to be an experienced adventurer.
“Oh uhm yeah, can I help you with anything?”, Sylvia asked.
“Nah, I just came back from doing a commission and wanted to get my reward. I wasn’t expecting to find a new adventurer though, so I decided to come and say hello.”
“Ah I see. May I ask what commission you were doing?”
“It’s nothing extraordinary. It was a simple wolf hunt, they have been causing a bit of trouble recently and the rewards for killing them aren’t too bad either. I figured it was a fast way to get a few extra coins to spend.”
Hearing the mention of wolves, Sylvia immediately recalled her encounter with the wolves she fought st night. She remembered how much trouble she had trying to fight those wolves alone. Even at her best she could only defeat the group of wolves due to her emotions getting the better of her, which caused her to get tons of blisters. She was shocked to hear that the guy standing in front of her could defeat a group of wolves so easily.
“You’re so awesome, mister!” Sylvia was left speechless after he told her about his story.
“Ahahaha you’ll get used to this line of work very soon. Say… Have you gotten the scroll book that the commission center gives to every newcomer?”
“What’s tha—”
Before Sylvia could ask, the receptionist called over for her.
“The registration is completed! Here’s your very own Chronicle of the Path. You can think of this as your very own personal diary, but the unique thing is that it writes itself down. It’ll keep track of what spells you’ve used and what commissions you have completed. It’s a crucial item for every adventurer. You’ll learn more about it as you get more experienced.”
“Thank you so much!” Sylvia gdly took it and started jumping up and down.
“There it is. It’s called Chronicle of the Path, but it’s a long-winded name so most adventurers including myself call it the scroll book. You can call it however you want though” said the adventurer.
“Gotcha!”
Sylvia immediately opened the book to see what’s inside.
— Chronicle of the Path —Learned Spells: -Commissions Completed: -–––––––––––––––––––––––––
“Wait, why is it empty?” said Sylvia as she closed the book.
“It only starts tracking your progress after you get the scroll book, so anything that you used or completed before getting the book isn’t tracked.”
“Awwwww, okay that’s fine! I’m gonna go do my first commission now~”
Sylvia immediately went towards the commission board and picked another Low Priority commission. This commission involves defeating a group of slimes. After picking the quest, she said her goodbyes to the adventurer and the receptionist, then left the commission center.
Another low priority quest, huh? If the previous low priority quest took that much effort to complete, then I’m kind of worried about this commission. Well if it means enhancing my memoria, then I’m in!
As she was walking towards the commission’s location, a loud growl could be heard. Sylvia had only just realized that she has yet to eat a single meal since she woke up.
“...I should probably get this sorted out.”
As soon as she said that, a few boars came out of the forest.
“Perfect! It’s been a while since I st hunted something. I want to try out something with this group of boars.”
She closed her distance, getting closer to the boars. She had to make sure that she didn’t make a single sound, otherwise her meal would run away before she could do anything to them. She hid in a nearby bush, making sure that she didn't startle them.
This distance should be enough. Attacking them head on wouldn’t work so I definitely have to use my memoria to attack them. I haven’t tried anything like this before so I’m curious if it’ll work or not.
Sylvia soon thought of the memories she had during the fight against the wolves. Before long, she started to get angry, but she tried to control the fme that brewed inside of her. She knew that if she were to explode now, she'd be doomed. Sylvia soon drew what looked to be a fire in the air and put out her hands. A small ball of fire was constructed right above her hands.
I could attack them with this and it would probably kill them, but I wanna try something out.
Sylvia focused her mind on the fireball. She pictured a small dagger-like weapon, and drew it with her left hand to try and shape the fireball into it. However, she lost concentration quickly which led to the fireball going out. She did not intend on giving up though, she kept trying and trying multiple times but she just couldn’t concentrate. The boars were preparing to leave the area. As soon as Sylvia noticed that, her anxiousness immediately went up.
No no no there’s no way they’re going to leave, right? I haven’t even used a spell yet…
She tried for one st time, trying to summon in the fming daggers that she had envisioned. Sylvia then closed her eyes and hoped that the spell worked.
…
…
…
I can feel something, it’s different from the fireball shape earlier. It feels like I’m holding something. Did the spell work?
Sylvia then opened her eyes and looked at her right hand. She was surprised to see 3 fming daggers being held in her hands. She couldn’t contain her excitement and immediately jumped out of the bush.
“YESSSSS!!! IT FINALLY WORK—”
The boars were startled. They immediately ran in different directions to try and get away from Sylvia.
“WAIT DON’T GO — PLEASE!”
She chased after one of the boars. Sylvia dodged multiple branches and logs, jumping over them and sliding down, keeping her focus on the boar. The trees were distracting, but she didn’t let that hinder her from killing the boar. She then dashed forward, closing her distance even more to make sure that her throw didn't miss.
“TAKE THIS—”
Sylvia threw one of the daggers, hitting the boar’s leg. The boar couldn’t move which rendered it helpless.
“Thought you could get away? It was worth a try, but you’re my meal now~”
Sylvia then threw the dagger into the boar’s head, killing it.
“Phew… That’s the easy part done, how do I cut this guy into consumable pieces? I still have one st dagger, so I guess I can use this as a knife?”
She tried her best to get as many pieces as possible from the one boar. She sliced the boar’s skin first and tried to cut anything that seemed like meat into bite size pieces. She then gathered a few sticks and logs from the surrounding area. She stacked the logs and then constructed a fireball, aiming it at the logs to light a campfire. After the campfire is finished, she skewers the meat into the sticks and then cooks it over the open fire.
“Well, this is one way to get food. It’s definitely cheaper.”
While waiting for the meat to cook, she had an idea.
“I did just use 2 spells, are they registered in my scroll book now? I’m curious to see how it appears in the book!”
Cooking the meat with her left hand, she opened the scroll book with her right hand.

“Just as I had expected, looks like I’ve still got a long way to go.”
Sylvia soon noticed that the meat she was cooking was finished, so she took it out of the campfire and immediately went in for a bite.
“THAT’S HOT—”
She completely forgot that the meat was left on an open fire. She quickly blew the heat away from the meat so that she could eat it in peace.
eyes glistening “Woah… That’s awesome… The meat’s melting in my mouth, it has an incredibly rich fvour in it. I didn’t expect for wild boars to taste this amazing, I might have to go on even more hunting missions soon!”
Sylvia left the area with a newfound motivation. She noticed that the commission location was only a few hundred meters away from her current location, so she was determined to get this finished quickly so that she can do another commission once she gets back.
After 10 minutes of walking, she reached the commission location.
“Slimes~ Come out come out wherever you are~ Please don’t make this long for me, ‘kay? I’m a busy person so I’d appreciate it if you were to come out now!”
Sylvia kept walking, trying to find where the slimes were located. As she was walking, she soon came to a realization.
“Ever since I started my journey, I’ve been exclusively using fire-reted spells. Maybe it’s time for a change of pace. What should I use…”
She thought about it for a while, but she couldn’t decide about which one to try.
“I remember that some people like to use animals or insects as their base, maybe I should try something like that?”
While she was walking, her eyes caught sight of a purple butterfly. Its wings were fluttering majestically, containing with it a mystic and almost unknown-like color. Without a single word spoken, Sylvia immediately resonated with this butterfly and watched it closely. She thoroughly enjoyed the sightseeing, but it came to an abrupt end.
“...why did you have to ruin this beautiful moment for me, slimes?” Sylvia sighed, stretching her arms as she turned to face the unwelcome visitors.
Six small slimes jiggled in front of her, their translucent bodies quivering with anticipation. After her previous low priority mission, the tiny group felt almost insulting.
“Just six?” Sylvia tilted her head. “Alright, come at me then!”
One slime unched itself forward, but Sylvia effortlessly sidestepped and kicked it away from her. The creature soared through the air, nding with a soft spt. Without waiting for it to recover, Sylvia constructed a fming dagger and hurled it, piercing the slime and evaporating it in a burst of steam.
Two more slimes unched at her — one from the front and one from behind. She dispatched the front slime with another swift kick, but the rear attacker smacked into her head, causing her to stumble forward.
“Ouch.” Sylvia rubbed her forehead, blinking away dizziness. “Okay, maybe you deserve a little credit.”
The remaining slimes seized the opportunity, piling onto her in a flurry of gooey strikes, bouncing and pummeling her from every angle. Sylvia remained crouched, absorbing the harmless attacks.
“I have to admit, that’s pretty cute” she said as a smirk curled on her lips. Soon, a ring of fire erupted around her instantly incinerating the surrounding slimes. Only one, the slime she had kicked earlier, remained. However, that wouldn’t st long as Sylvia rushed over and lifted the slime with both hands.
“Thanks for the warm-up fellow slime, tell your comrades that I enjoyed the exercise~” she said, punching it until it disintegrated. She dusted off her clothes, looking around at the mess.
“Easiest reward I’ll ever get” she muttered. She wanted to continue her sightseeing and tried searching for the butterfly, but it got away after the ensuing chaos. She had no choice but to return back to town to get her rewards.
