Chapter 17
First Day of School
Geneva:
Mommy drives us to school to get us registered and see who our teachers will be. Killian and Jo will be starting school with us too. I'm excited to learn and make new friends maybe. I hope Jo and I get into the same class. We have been are as close as sisters, playing dress up, training together, tea parties, outside games and indoor games when it rains. Mommy walk us to our classes to meet our teachers and to show us around the school. It's a good thing I have a good memory because I would be lost. Vlad and Killian are in the same class. Vlad maybe older but he couldn't start school because of his birthday was after started. That is why he started with us. Jo and I are in the same class too and we get to sit beside each other. Mommy whispers and asks me how I'm feeling because I only had one drop of blood in my milk this morning.I tell her I feel fine. She says if I get to feeling funny, to call her or Daddy. I tell her ok and go back in the classroom and take my seat.
The teacher tells us her name is Miss Sue and she hands us each a paper to see if we know how to spell our names and what letters of the Alphabet we know and what numbers we can write. Jo and I can write our name, write all the Alphabet and can write our numbers all the way to one hundred. We can even Add and Subtract. We have been practicing since we met and my older siblings and nephew helped us learn.
Jo and I hand Miss Sue our papers. She calls us to go outside with her. She wants to know how we learned so much. While we were trying to explain to her, Grayson walked up the hall, he asked Miss Sue if we caused any trouble. She asks how he knows us. He tells her I am his little sister. and says Jo is his distant cousin. He lied but he had to have a good reason. Miss Sue asked him if he knew we already knew how to write, and do arithmetic. He tells her of course he knew because all of the family members are super smart. She started asking more personal questions about our family but neither Gray, Jo or I answered them. Grayson just pats our heads and tells us to be good and keep up the good work. We look down the hall and Vlad and Killian are out in the hall with their teacher. Grayson stops and talks to him too. I wonder if they are having the same conversation about them being smart as well. We go back in the room and Miss Sue hands us a coloring sheet. We color while she helps other kids with writing their names. We have a small break and Jo and I help a few kids learn to write the Alphabet. Jo whispers to me that she doesn't want to ever be a teacher, I agree with her. Teaching is hard work especially when kids don't want to listen. We also agree that we don't like Miss Sue. She acts strange and stinks of dark magic.
Stolen story; please report.
Next we have lunch. I'm feeling kinda icky so I go to the restroom and call Mommy. She must be busy. I called Daddy. He doesn't answer either. Next I call Lolly and then Pop Pop. No answer. I go back to the cafeteria, get my tray and sit down with Jo, Vlad and Killian. I link Vlad and tell him I need blood. Without a word Killian takes a safety pin out and pricks his finger and takes my milk and drops a couple of drops of blood in it. No one notices, it seems. I drink all of my milk and I feel better. I tell him thank you and I'm able to eat my soup and grilled cheese sandwich. We go to recess and run an obstacle course we made up. I'm still not faster than Vlad or Killian but Jo and I can keep up better now. After recess we go back in, wash our hands, grab our sleeping mats and lay down for a nap. When we wake up school is over for the day.
Ann picks us up today and when we get in her suv she explains that there is a problem and the family had to go sort it out and she will be babysitting us for a while.
Back home Ann makes us dinner. We have spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and a fresh salad. We all help clear the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher.
We go get our baths and get ready for bed but no one is sleepy, so we watch the SpongeBob Movie. Ann tells us it's time for bed. We ask her to read us a story. She reads us The Ugly Duckling and tucks Jo and I in for the night. I hear her doing the same for the boys too.
Some time that night a terrible storm came through. I hate storms. The thunder and lightning scared me. I woke up shaking. The storm is getting worse. I know my emotions can control the weather so I take slow deep breaths to try to calm myself. It's not working. I'm so scared. I don't want to wake Jo who is able to sleep through this horrible raging storm.
My bedroom door slowly opens and Killian comes in. He asked me if I'm okay. All I can do is shake my head NO. He climbs into my bed and hugs me. I don't know when I feel asleep but I wake up to the birds in the tree outside my window singing and Killian isn't here. I get up and get dressed for school. I expected to see Mom, Das, Lolly and Pop sitting at the table but they are still not home.
Ann made breakfast burritos for us this morning and says we will not be going to school today. Then she asked if anything strange happened yesterday at school. Jo told her about the teacher taking us to the hall and asking us how we are so smart and her asking personal questions about our family. I tell her about Grayson telling Miss Sue we were his distant cousins and all if the family being super smart and how he patter our heads and went down the hall to talk to Mr. Leon. Killian and Vlad tell her about their similar situation, but there teacher Mr. Leon was asking them if they wanted to help the other students who fall behind or would they rather ask if they would like to be put in advanced classes. Mr. Leon stopped Grayson and asked his opinion. Grayson told Mr. Leon, that there are two more students in Miss Sue's class that are just as smart and that the choice is up to the children and their guardians. Mr. Leon's eyes go big at the news of 2 more genius children but at the mention of Miss Sue. His brows knitted and he said he didn't like that woman, there was something off about her and he doesn't trust her.
