February 10th, 1919

It was so cold today that I had to treat three cases of frostbite in three of us. Those people were Angelo, Mosao, and Albert. The cold has been biting at us all day, until I decided that I should order everyone inside unless they were doing something. I made the tent warm like I usually do when I am treating someone. No one cared. They didn't want to be out in the cold. I wasn't going to make them.

Halfway through this day, all of the boys began to grow restless. We all went back outside again, this time, lighting a very large fire. Everyone smiled and laughed at the fire, despite the growing weight on our chests. It hurts to do all of these things and not have any of the older boys around anymore. We have lost more than we have gained. Everyone seemed happy today. I had a feeling it would be one of the last times, so I treasured the last piece of joy.
