Chapter 36: The Valiant Engine

  Narrator-kun:

Hajime-kun continues his journey through Level 3 of the tower dungeon. The death and decay here feel far stronger than in previous areas, but that doesn’t disturb our hero — his sensibilities have been skewed in all the wrong ways since day one on this world. The tower’s original essence has long faded, its story buried, its containment sealed... and yet, one guardian remains between Hajime-kun and his prize!!!

  Hajime-kun POV:

  Cough, cough.

“Damn… I really should take better care of my health. Cup noodles weren’t meant to be a mainstay in a working man’s diet.”

Unfit as always, Hajime-kun complains about problems that could have easily been solved if he just went to the gym or learned to cook.

Then Caladblock says, “Ara Ara, my senses are tingling! We’re getting close! Fight on Hero~!”

She’s unusually chipper — maybe it’s the quality time together… or maybe monopolizing Hajime-kun has put her in the best of moods.

Up ahead: a gigantic gate, barred by a glitching paywall. An ad for disease prevention loops endlessly, stuck a corrupted mid-pitch.

Hajime-kun smirks, “The dark heart of the disease... Jackpot!!!”

He gets energetic again — finally reaching what we assume is the upgrade he so desperately needs. He swings Caladblock with force, and a gut-wrenching scream echoes across the entire city.

Buildings collapse at the outskirts of the city.

The ancient paywalls crumble to dust.

The hero’s companions spring into unprecedented action — not for justice, but to farm their streams with the prospects of an epic finale.

Meanwhile, Hajime pushes open the massive door. Inside, he sees a corpse sitting on a throne of glitching ads.

A voice, deep and malicious, booms:

“Who dares invade this sacred sanctum of anti-advertisement?!”

Those words... they echo something familiar. A kindred spirit?

Hajime hyperventilates. “I seek power — to break the yoke of this world!”

  The voice replies,

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Lies! No one has ever done so. You — a hero — dare deceive me?”

The corpse begins to emit glitch energy, powerful enough to nullify most heroes’ abilities. It obviously doesn’t work on Hajime.

Caladblock pleads, “He truly hates ads, just give him a chance!”

  The spirit pauses.

“I… once trusted a companion who shared my dream of coexistence, but he betrayed me. He used my power to seal an unstoppable foe… and abandoned me in this lonely hell.”

“Now, we are together — in body and in spirit.”

  Caladblock: “That’s sooo romantic.”

  Hajime-san: “Yandere…??”

  The spirit continues:

“Now… my presence alone keeps this world safe.”

  Hajime shrugs.

“Honestly, this world doesn’t deserve to be safe.”

  “!!!”

  Hajime activates his developing talk-no-jutsu:

“I was unilaterally designated as a hero. Kidnapped from my normal world.

It wasn’t perfect… but it was mine.

I tolerated ads — at first — but then they became too much.

They ruined the content I loved.

I was going to install an Adblocker… but a pop-up ad dragged me to this hell.”

  “It’s been bad. I’ve suffered.

  But… I don’t regret it.

I’ve met a wonderful companion—” He holds up the miasma-corrupted "Holy" Sword.

“—and I have a dream to leave this world. I don’t care what needs to happen to achieve it…

But I’ll save anyone who hates this world as much as I do.”

Finally… something heroic from Hajime — even if it goes against the world's logic.

  The corpse stills.

“Young hero… your resolve is something I haven’t seen since…”

  It pauses. Then:

“Okay! Let’s break the world together!”

A floating lion-shaped necklace emerges from the corpse.

“The Valiant Engine will guide your way!”

Hajime has gained a new companion in his journey — but something begins to crack in the glitchy seal at the back of the room…

“Ascension is at hand brothers! The hero has done it!”

They explode confetti everywhere like they actually contributed to this grand event.

  Another figure sighs,

“Hey... should we stop the hero’s companions or something?”

  They stop pouring wine.

“Damn it... I hate it when you’re right.”

The secret society finally springs into action.

  Whalescalibur:

“I’ve accumulated enough power for a few slashes… but I fear it’s not enough.

Whatever the hero just did — that third scream — it’s a world-ending catastrophe!!!”

At the same time, the Princess Knight is rushing toward the tower, with the Saintess in tow.

Elnora-san gasps, “I never expected the hero to be so proactive! I can’t leave him off-stream for a single minute!”

She’s sweating nervously — like she’s just received a bad premonition.

  Merry-san, hopeful:

“I trust the hero. Yet this time… no.

  We must still trust him!”

  Her faith is admirable.

  But honestly…

She really shouldn’t trust the hero.

  They rush forward —

And are stopped by a suspicious group of assailants, just in front of the ruined tower.
