(153)Chapter 2.10 – Anya Resolve. (Part 1)

  “Good morning Kiana.”

With said relieved look on her face, she greets Kiana with the gentlest tone of voice that I have ever heard until now. She really is a sweetheart as the moment she was able to confirm that Kiana is fine, at least physically that is, you can feel the worry slowly leaving from Anya's mind and even body as she was holding her hands tightly together and close to her chest.

Kiana- Ah, good morning Anya! How are you today? Slept well? I actually woke up quite a bit late, for some reason I missed my alarm…

Anya- It happens, the other day I forgot to set an alarm for an experiment that I was doing. I was supposed to put the liquid in the freezer for 30 minutes and I left it there for 3 hours. It was frozen and I had to redo the experiment… Sigh, I wasted two days to get it to the same point as for some reason I was not able to get the same results... Any-Anyway! What about you? You seem fine so I guess that yesterday everything went well.

  “Ah.”

Nice one Kiana, now really is a good time to remember what you were supposed to do! The moment her forgetful mind processed what she was supposed to do, in this case, while she didn’t directly say anything to Anya, common sense would make her at the very least visit Anya after everything was solved so that she wouldn’t be worried about her for no reason at all. Her golden eyes are wide open as her mouth involuntarily lets out this “ah” sound to the world as she understands what she forgot to do and the “severity” of what she didn’t do.

Kiana- Uh, I mean, to be honest, when I got there everything was already solved, that's why I didn’t say anything... Ye-Yeah! Apparently two monsters stampede back-to-back, for some illogical reason, they decided to appear near the entrance of the city, right next to the bridge. I say illogical as the guild has no explanation for such a phenomenon.

Anya- Then, the other students were right after all… You said that it was solved when you got there but, how was the situation there? Was it bad? And, what is a monster stampede?

She slightly tilts her head sideways as she asks this with quite the curious look on her face although, it’s more than normal and understandable that she has no clue what a monster stampede is. “Monster stampede” is a term mainly used by adventurers, the guild and those that are associated with the guild so it’s normal that anyone from outside will not understand or even know what it is or what it means. However, nothing that a small explanation will not solve, and that’s exactly what Kiana does. Monster stampede consists of a big group of monsters working together towards a common goal. The monsters can all be from the same race or they can be from different races, what makes it a stampede is the sheer number as they have to be at least fifty or more to be considered a monster stampede. From this alone, anyone can guess that this is a pretty dangerous phenomenon and while Kiana defeated one by herself, she’s an outlier, an irregularity, in normal situations this would’ve been a small catastrophe as several adventurers would have to band together to eliminate said threat just like it happened. In fact, what Kiama did can easily be considered a Heroic action or deed as she singlehanded prevented a damn catastrophe from happening.

Kiana- However, I did use some of your potions to help out some people that needed… I hope you don’t mind that, I know they were for me but, I had to do it.

Anya- Of course not, at least I was helpful even if I wasn’t there. That’s more than I can ask for.

Kiana- Hmm, hmm, your potions sure are something else! Especially that healing one, one guy had his arm broken and your potion healed right back to normal, almost as if nothing happened in the first place! That’s unbelievable! However, I do think those magic recovery potions need a little more work as their efficiency is “only” 50% or so. Anyway, I was able to put them to good use but, if you want, I can give you the rest of them back. From the five you gave me I still have two of them, one magic recovery and another healing potion.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Anya- No, no, no, you can keep those to yourself or to anyone that might need it. Not only can I make more if I need them, in this case, you need those more than I do, however, I will keep what you said about the magic recovery potion in mind. My idea behind those was to always recover at least 50% of magic energy independent of your total of magic energy. This way, those who have a lot can still recover quite a significant amount and even those who have less, they still can recover half of their total.

  ........

  ......

  …

And they went quiet out of nowhere. Just like always, the silence is speaking louder than their previous voices could ever hope. Now this is rather awkward, the conversation ended just like that and because of it, they are staring at each other's faces without saying anything. Then for some reason, on Kiana silklike lips, they form a rather soft smile while her golden eyes have a mellow look to them while she deeply stares at Anya, however, because of this, her cheeks are getting just a tad bit red, it seems this intense stare is making her embarrassed. Although, it seems she has something ready to come out of her mouth as we can easily see it trembling not only that, she opens it, slightly that is, then closes it, following up with her switching her gaze towards everything but Kiana, only to come back again mere moments later. She has something to say but, she’s having troubles to do so though, she notices this rather quickly and with two louds breath ins and outs, she gathers the courage to tell Kiana what’s in her chaotic mind.

“Wh-Why did you felt the need to go? What you told me, the monster stampede seems so dangerous and yet, even without knowing that there was one in there, you still went there... Why?”

So, this is what’s bothering her. I can’t say that, I was expecting this however, from her worries and the fact that she did her best to stop Kiana from going, this is a natural question and somewhat perplexed feelings towards Kiana reasons. While she has an inkling that Kiana is quite strong, she still has no idea of how much she really is. She defeated the Shadow Wolf with a single strike but that means nothing in the face of someone that can’t distinguish between a mere D rank and a D+ rank, yes, the monster presence was close to making her throw up from the sheer pressure that he was emitting however, a “simple” C rank could achieve the same effect. Another factor that she cannot comprehend is why Kiana feels the need to put herself in harm’s way for someone that she probably does not know at all. Ah, don’t take this the wrong way, Anya is not some evil person that does not care about anyone else except those who she cares or something like that, her questions, confusion, all of this is based on worry and care for Kiana wellbeing, after all, not only she can get injured, the worst can always happen.

Kiana- Hmm, would you prefer if I didn’t go? What if they needed some help? This time around they were able to take care of things but just I said, I’ve put to use some of your potions. Things could’ve gone wrong and I mean that as if they failed to put a stop to the monster stamped, said monsters would’ve entered the city.

Anya- I-I know that! I can understand the severity of the situation but, what if something happened to you? What if you got hurt? O-Or worse...

Kiana- Well, if for some reason I do get hurt, I can always use your potions! That’s why you gave them, right? And, if there is something out there that can kill me then, I more than believe that the whole world is in danger…

She starts it with a teasing tone of voice, with a smirk on her face and with her golden eyes with a mischievous look on them. Then, she relaxes and switches to a natural look and tone as she keeps on going with her nonsense, almost as if what she’s saying is something normal. Seriously, someone sure is quite confident in her strength however, she’s right and while this takes Anya by surprise, there is something that tells her that what Kiana is spewing is nothing more than the truth itself.

Anya- How can you have so much trust in your strength… But that still does not explain “the need” to go. I really cannot see why you would do something like that just because you feel like it. Or do you think it’s your duty because you’re strong?

Kiana- You’re not wrong and I have confidence about myself because I know what I’m capable of doing and as someone that is strong, I feel that it is my duty as the Magi-Human to protect those who are weaker than me, don’t you think? Why would I need all of this strength otherwise? I don’t want to conquer the world with it.

“But, aren’t you afraid? Of getting hurt? Or even dying?”

Kiana- Hmm, I won’t say that I never felt fear of getting hurt or even that, but let me ask you something. What about the innocent that are in front of death? How do you think they feel? Actually, what did you feel when those Black Wolves Fangs were in front of you?

  “I…”

  She got her.

There is nothing in Anya's mind that could refute her logic.
