(57)Chapter 1.2.3– These People Never Learn, Do They? (Part - 7)

Kiana- (Focus Kiana! I still have 20 minutes to figure something out, but I can’t let myself get distracted. I need some guidance otherwise I don’t think I will find something… Let’s see if the student council members can help me out.)

With a plan in mind, she gets moving, walking up to the nearby student council member. She politely greets him and follows that with a question. She asks him what he thinks about the riddle. He goes on and on for a minute or two but here’s a quick resume of what he said. To him there is nothing in the riddle that prohibits the use of multiple pockets, therefore he suggests the use of the same item over and over until it covers the room, to him that is the correct answer.

His answer however, it’s something that Kiana has already thought about, so of course what he said makes sense to her, but the fact that there is nothing that says she can use multiple pockets at once, it is making her unsure about his answer. After this she decides to walk up to the next student council member, right now she needs different answers, different views and ways of thinking.

  She has 17 minutes left.

Just like the first time, she politely greets the next member and follows it by the same question. Let me tell you something, what she got from this amazing, spectacular member is something that pissed her off by quite a bit. This woman rumbled on and on, effectively wasting Kiana time, roughly 10 minutes to be precise. I don’t know why Kiana kept on listening to her but thanks to that decision, she wasted those precious minutes. Either she was being polite or somehow, she forgot what she was doing, but one thing is for sure, she now has 7 minutes left, not much time left and this is starting to create a bit of pressure, just a bit though.

Now with hurry, quite a bit at that, she quickly walks up to the last one and as you can expect, everything goes the same way. This time however, the member simply gave out an answer. A plain and simple answer, nothing more, nothing less either, just straight out the item he thinks that will cover the floor. What he said does make some sense, he told her to bring out a carpet big enough for the entire room. But said carpet needs to cover at least 100 square meters and this won’t fit in a normal pocket, if it is a Pocket Dimension then, the story is completely different. The problem with this ends up being the same one as the first member's answer, in this case, she’s using a skill rather than a physical pocket, but is that even allowed? She does not know that, ending in the same place as she was before but now with only 5 minutes left on the clock.

Kiana- (Now what? I’m back at the beginning! If I could use magic then all of this would be solved in an instant! What kind of item can I fit in a normal pocket and yet somehow cover an entire room? And one that is 100 square meters! That’s impossible!)

Yep, she has no clue nor do I and to be honest, the magic answer would actually be the simplest one. For example, she could easily use a Hydro spell, one that would easily cover the room with it. Yes, it would also destroy the room itself but at the end, it would fully cover it nonetheless. Just as I was giving this example, one that she actually thought about it, something else comes to her petite mind.

“(Magic Scrolls! I can use those!)”

Nice one Kiana! She’s correct though, a magic scroll will easily fit in a pocket. It will have to be the small ones but that’s not hard at all to find or buy. In fact, the most commonly sold ones are that size. They are cheap but for the price, they are extremely useful and cost effective. Their efficiency however, is for the low side and only low tier spells can be used from them, but just as I said, thanks to their cheap price they still end up being quite useful. The special paper they use to create said scrolls can hold only so much magic energy, it will depend on their size as the bigger they are, the more paper they need and consequently they end up being able to store more magic energy on them, while the small ones use less of that paper ending up being able to store less magic energy on them. There are several types of them, but no need to go in depth for now, I will still say a couple of them though. You have the small scrolls, medium scrolls, big scrolls, giant scrolls and then ancient scrolls, the later ones use a special type of paper, one that is extremely expensive but what they can be used for is also something else. Moving on! Now she just needs to figure out what spell she can use that will cover the room without destroying it of course.

Kiana- (Hmm, I don’t have the tendency to use magic scrolls but for a 100 square meter room a medium scroll would be needed, I think. If I used a Hydro spell, I could easily cover the room, however not only this medium scroll would not fully fit in my pocket as at least ? of it would be outside of it, said Hydro spell will also damage the room. Doing something so reckless just to achieve their goals might not be what the father wants from his children. What can I use then? What spell will allow me to cover the room without destroying it?)

  Tick!

  Time is going by Kiana.

  Tock!

You need to find something right now.

  Tick!

After all, you only have 2 more minutes to go.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

  Tock!

“(Yes, I think this will work.)”

Just as I was commenting on how much time she has left, she thought of something in that timespan, writing it on the paper and once she was done, she gave it to one of the members of the student council that is there to gather all of the answers. Said 2 minutes have gone by and Taniah, the President of the Student Council announces the end of the test.

“The test is over! Good job everyone! We will see the answers that you gave us and we will announce the results in about 25 minutes. Until then, please wait patiently, we might call one of you individually but if we do so it’s because we need a reason for your answer.”

  .......

  ......

  ...

The phenomenon of passing the time. Something that no one has control of it, something that no one can do anything about it, something that we, all living things, have to accept it as it is. A rule from the world. Something that is as natural as breathing for all living things. This is a fact that stands on its principals in this simple world and Kiana currently is suffering because of it, well, to be honest, all of the participants are suffering as they wait anxiously for the results. While the time is passing a few of them do get called out to give out an explanation to their answers but only two of them end up doing so.

Said 25 minutes have gone by and Taniah walks up to the stage ready to announce the results.

“Listen up everyone! Thank you for your wait but, the results are in!”

There was small talk here, in the crowd and between the participants but the moment that Taniah opened her mouth, everyone, and I mean everyone, quiets down to hear her announcement. Even though I’m not physically there, I can easily feel the tension in the air as everyone eagerly waits for the results. And of course, our cute Kiana is no exception to it, even though she never intended to participate.

  “?>w
What is done is done Kiana, at least you gave your best, be proud of that at. Next time though, don’t be afraid to say no, ok? Otherwise, it will keep happening over and over until you grow a pair as they used to say to me. Although I’m a man and that makes sense to us men, but I think it also can apply to women? Why the hell do I yap so much?

Taniah- First of all, good job! Doing something in public is not easy at all, the nerves can get the best of you, the fear of getting mocked might make you act in a way that you don’t want to. However, as the student council we are the face of the students. We are the first ones to stand for them but at the same time, the first ones to punish them. You have to have a calm and cold head so that you can have the best solution for the problems ahead of you. You stood here for 30 minutes, exposed to all of these students and yet, all of you were able to give out an answer. For that alone, I congratulate all of you. Unfortunately, only two of you gave out the correct answer. Some of you tried to think outside of the box but failed to explain said thinking. In a real situation, thinking outside of the box gives you flexibility and the ability to see things from different perspectives, and that alone I admire.

“However, if you make a mistake while doing so, the consequences can be much more dire than in a normal situation. Be aware of it, the results might be fantastic but the consequences can be just as dire, it can even make you regret ever doing so.”

Taniah- While in the riddle there was nothing saying that would stop you from using unrealistic solutions, common sense however, does so. In the real world you would never do something that is unrealistic, so why did you think you could do so in this riddle? Those who used an unrealistic answer failed to give us a proper explanation for such, failing in the process. Others simply gave out the wrong answer, either the item they chose didn’t make much sense or didn’t work for this problem, others didn’t take into account the size of the room while others simply forgot about real dimensions of the chosen item and therefore it would never fit in a pocket, a normal one of course. Yes, in the riddle the father mentions a pocket, not pockets or Pocket Dimension as some of you said in your answer.

Taniah- At the end, we actually have two winners as I briefly mentioned before! To be honest, one of them did thought outside of the box and ended up giving a good answer for the riddle. But enough of this, the correct items for the riddle are two of them, they both involve the same concept. A lighter and a box of matches, these are the correct answers.

A lighter and box of matches? Sure, they do fit in a normal pocket, but how does it work then? Is she referring to the flame they create? Wait a second, now that I’m thinking about it, it does make sense, after all, the light from said flame will easily illuminate the entire room and at the same time, cover it. Quite smart, but what about air for example? While water we reached the conclusion that it would damage the room, air itself won’t do such a thing as we have it all around us. The problem is keeping air in a pocket... Although she did say that one of the winners thought outside of the box, so maybe Kiana magic scrolls might be the other correct answer.

Taniah- It’s never said in the riddle that you have to physically cover the room. That's why those two are correct, as the light from the fire they both provide, it will easily cover the entire room with it. If for some reason you could fit enough water in your pocket then you could also use said answer for the riddle, but not only that is physically impossible, it would also damage everything in that room. You could just open a window and then use a fan to blow the air into the room, but not only it has to be a fan small enough to fit in your pocket, in the riddle there is nothing that says that, said room has a window. However, as I said before, one of you thought outside of the box and actually gave out a good answer for this problem. In fact, it actually uses magic to solve this! I know, how can someone fit magic in a simple pocket? The answer is simpler than what you think.

And Kiana's answer is right. Yosha! Nice one Kiana! Anyway, Taniah's question is a good question indeed. Magic is something rather abstract so how can you fit it in a pocket? You easily manifest magic into something more concrete and real per say, but in these conditions, it’s hard to think of a type of magic that can do this. The other problem that comes with magic is that, the father asked for an item, that alone disqualifies magic itself. This fact alone is confusing the majority of the students there, others have quite the doubtful look on their face as they also understand this contradiction, while a small fraction, and I mean one or two of them, they quickly thought of the correct answer, having that “Ah!” moment on their faces.
