Il Voto di Kinsey

Nyx stood beside Kinsey in the castle's throne room, with Sylvie sitting on the opposite side of the table from her, right next to Kinsey. Nyx extended a hand towards Kinsey, her gaze as commanding as it was eerily enchanting.

"Kinsey," she began in her usual cold voice, "As we speak, our companions seem to have reached an impasse. The Black Snakes are after them for what they did at the auction site, but Valoria's World Core still needs to be dealt with. I've awaited a good opportunity to grant you a mission, and I feel you are perfect for this one, seeing you have trained in the Dark Arts and have made considerable progress.”

"That's right, Kinsey-Kins," Sylvie teased with a wide smirk. "No time for your edgy goth-girl shenanigans!”

Kinsey rolled her eyes slightly at Sylvie's comment, her expression a mixture of annoyance and slight irritation at her teasing. She knew the demon was trying to get under her skin, as per usual, but she tried her best not to let it get to her. "Yeah, yeah, I get it, Sylvie," she replied in a flat, slightly annoyed tone.

She then directed her attention back to Nyx, her expression becoming more serious and business-like, though still with traces of reluctance and teenage snark. "So, you finally have something for me to do, huh?”

Nyx nodded, her expression calm and unwavering. "Indeed," she stated, gazing at her with that icy stare. "After assessing your skills and abilities, I have determined that you are indeed well qualified for the mission I am about to offer."

Sylvie, still seated on the opposite side, watched with interest, though her smirk remained on her face. She was curious to hear what Nyx had in mind.

Kinsey, trying to seem nonchalant, crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow slightly. "I'm listening," she said, her tone slightly bored.

Nyx took a moment to study Kinsey's body language, noting her slight boredom and crossed arms, before she began speaking. "Good. Let me get straight to the point then," she said, her voice still cold and calm.

She gazed at Kinsey with those red eyes that seemed to bore into her very soul, making the young goth girl slightly shift in her spot. It was slightly unnerving having those intense eyes on her like that.

"I need you to find the World Core of Valoria. Can you do that?" Nyx asked, her gaze unwavering and intense.

Kinsey felt a slight shiver run across her spine as Nyx's intense gaze met her eyes. She tried her best to maintain her cool, rebellious exterior, but she couldn't deny that Nyx's authoritative presence was kind of intimidating and unsettling.

She clenched her fists at the question, trying to keep the hint of nervousness out of her voice.

"Of course I can. I mean, how hard can it be?" she said nonchalantly, trying to project an aura of coolness. "I can get the World Core for ya, boss. No sweat. But what do I get out of it?"

At this question, Nyx knew exactly what to do to pull Kinsey's strings. "What do you get out of it," she repeated, placing a hand on the obsidian table and channeling her aura through it. "Remember, we've made an agreement. You work with us, and I will ensure that I help you reach your goal."

She created a projection of someone that made Kinsey freeze and stare in disbelief. Ruby eyes, glittering light blue hair, pale skin, pointy ears, hourglass figure... It was none other than...

"Kairy!" Kinsey blurted out, jumping up from her seat.

Sylvie let out a giggle as she leaned closer to Kinsey. "Wooow, Kins. Very delayed reaction there.”

Kinsey couldn't hear Sylvie while in her daze. She looked at the projection of Kairy, her mind racing as her eyes widened. Seeing the image of her long-lost friend caused a wave of emotions to rush through her. Happiness, grief, anger, determination.

It took her a few moments to recover from her surprise, and gather her thoughts. She looked back at Nyx, a fierce determination in her eyes. "You... You can truly help me get back Kairy?”

Nyx smirked slightly, enjoying the sight of Kinsey's shocked and emotional reaction. She noticed the range of emotions flickering through her eyes, and knew that the projection of Kairy had a big impact.

When Kinsey spoke, Nyx could see the determination and desperation in her eyes as she processed the new information. "Indeed, I can," she replied with a nod. "I have a means to revive your lost friend. It will not be easy, but I can make it happen, if you fulfill your end of the bargain.”

Kinsey clenched her fists tightly, her expression set in determination. The thought of finally getting Kairy back had reignited the fire in her, and she was willing to do anything to achieve that goal.

"I don't care how hard it is," she responded fiercely, her voice filled with unwavering resolve. "If... If you can truly bring back Kairy, then I'll do whatever it takes to complete this mission. I'll find the World Core for you, no matter what. Just... Make. It. Happen. I'll hold up my end, you keep yours.”

Nyx smirked wider, enjoying the raw emotion and determination in Kinsey's voice. She could sense the burning passion and unwavering resolution in her eyes, and appreciated her drive.

"Good," Nyx said with her usual cool and commanding tone. "I have faith in your abilities. You will do what it takes to succeed, of that there is no doubt. However..."

She leaned back in her seat, her gaze unwavering. "...There are conditions to this. Conditions I expect you to abide by until the mission is complete.”

Kinsey raised an eyebrow, curiosity and wariness in her eyes. She was willing to do what it took to get Kairy back, but it seemed there was a catch.

"Conditions, huh?" she asked, a little skeptical. "What kind of conditions? You want me to stick to orders, not cause any trouble, or something? I can do that. Just tell me what the conditions are, and I'll abide by them."

Sylvie, sitting nearby, looked amused, watching the exchange intently.

Nyx observed Kinsey's raised eyebrow and slight skepticism, knowing that this was predictable. She didn't blame her for being wary, but she had to make sure she had her word.

"Yes, conditions," Nyx confirmed with a nod, folding her hands on the table. "As you say, I expect you to follow orders and not cause trouble. However, there's something else I want from you."

She paused, studying Kinsey's expression, wondering if she would react to the conditions. "Condition one: You will go on this mission alone. No backup, no allies.”

Kinsey blinked in surprise at Nyx's condition. "Alone? Just me, all by myself?" she repeated, a hint of disbelief in her voice. This was definitely a condition she hadn't anticipated.

Sylvie chuckled, amused by this unexpected twist. "Sounds like you're gonna be flying solo for this one, Kins."

Kinsey turned her attention back to Nyx, her tone laced with both reluctance and determination. "And…what's the second condition?”

Nyx maintained her calm and cool demeanor, seeing the mixture of reluctance and determination in Kinsey's voice. It was expected, and that's part of what she wanted to test.

"Condition two," Nyx continued, her eyes holding Kinsey's gaze, "I want you to make a pact with the Darkness. This will make your existing powers far stronger, and give you an edge over ordinary Void Magic users.”

Kinsey's eyebrows shot up in surprise at Nyx's revelation. "A pact? With the Darkness? Are you serious?"

Sylvie's smile widened, finding this condition even more interesting. "Whoa, I'm starting to like these conditions more and more," she commented, amused.

Kinsey, still processing the gravity of this condition, took a moment to consider the implications. "Wait, will this pact with the Darkness make me...different in any way? Physically or psychologically?”

Nyx noticed the surprise in Kinsey's eyes and the slight unease in her tone. She knew this condition would be a hard one to accept, but it was necessary.

"Yes," she replied, her voice unwavering. "You will draw your own blood, and swear to both yourself and the Darkness that if anything—and anyone—stops you from bringing back Kairy, whether it be a lost battle with someone standing in your way, or finding yourself in a predicament that makes reaching Kairy impossible...you will lose your life.”

Upon hearing Nyx's words, Kinsey's eyes widened in surprise, and a small shiver ran down her spine. She stared at Nyx, a mix of shock and unease on her face.

"Wh-What?" she gasped, her voice a little higher than her usual tone. "You... You expect me to swear my life on bringing Kairy back?"

Sylvie, hearing Nyx's condition, let out another amused chuckle. "Wow, things just got intense! You're playing the stakes high here, boss," she commented casually.

Nyx took note of Kinsey's reaction, seeing the mix of shock and discomfort in her eyes. It was clearly a condition that she was having a hard time with, which was understandable.

"That's right," Nyx confirmed, her voice unwavering. "The stakes are high, and I only want the most determined individuals for this mission. You will swear your life on your pledge, if you are truly committed. Do you accept the second rule?"

Sylvie, leaning forward, was enjoying watching the drama unfold. She didn't intervene, simply waiting for Kinsey's response.

Kinsey clenched her fists, her mind warring with the conditions Nyx had just imposed. On one hand, she felt the weight of the task and the risks it entailed. But on the other hand, the thought of getting Kairy back was a powerful incentive.

After a few tense moments of contemplation, she finally let out a deep sigh and met Nyx's eyes with unwavering determination. Her voice was firm and resolute.

"I accept," she muttered, her voice laced with resolution and a hint of acceptance. "I will swear my life to fulfilling this pledge. No matter the cost.”

A flicker of pleasure crossed Nyx's usually unreadable face at Kinsey's response, a small yet noticeable sign that she was pleased with her decision. She saw the resolve in her eyes and heard the determination in her voice, and was satisfied.

Sylvie, who had been quietly observing, now let a smirk pull at her lips at the sight of the condition being accepted. "Now that's what I'm talking about Kinsey-Kins!" she quipped. "You're really going all in, aren'tcha?”

Kinsey nodded slightly in agreement, acknowledging the gravity of her decision. She knew the risks she was taking, and the price she would have to pay if she failed. But she couldn't back out now, her love for Kairy and the drive to have her lost friend back had sealed her fate.

"Yep," she replied simply, her voice laced with a mix of determination and a hint of trepidation. "There's no turning back now. I'm in this for the long haul.”

Nyx's lip curled into another small smile, pleased with her conviction. She saw the determination and the hint of anxiety in Kinsey's expression, and knew that she was serious.

"Good. I appreciate your commitment," she responded with a nod of approval.

Sylvie, watching the exchange, chuckled once more, enjoying the high stakes and the added tension. "And so, our little goth girl steps out of her comfort zone and into the unknown," she commented. "This'll be interesting, I can feel it.”

Kinsey met Nyx's smile with a brief nod, acknowledging her gratitude. But the reality of her situation was starting to sink in, and she couldn't deny that her heart was beating faster in her chest.

Sylvie's comment drew her attention, and she shot her a brief glance. Her lips twitched in a small, amused grin. "Yeah, thanks for the reminder," she quipped before returning her focus to Nyx. "I just hope you make good on your end of this deal.”

Nyx held her gaze for a moment, seeing the determination still burning in her eyes, and the slight anxiety in her expression. She knew that she was feeling the gravity of the deal now.

"I will," she responded, her voice calm and certain. "You fulfill your part, and you will get what you want."

Sylvie giggled at the dialogue between them. "And now, shall the games begin," she added with a grin. "This is gonna be a real interesting ride.”
