Humans have never had a genuine reference point with regards to their abilities as sapient creatures. Being the only intelligent life form on their home planet, there were no other species with which they could compare their art, culture, personality traits, or intelligence. However, they knew little of their history. You see, humans are actually the most intelligent species in their galaxy by a long shot. Their rates of advancement far outpace even the most ambitious and aggressive races in the Orion spiral arm.
