Chapter 6: Exploring!

Flying on a sword is cool and all, but after a few days it gets a little boring. We haven't come across anything of interest yet.

"So Gerard, what do you make of this world so far?"

"So far it's looking weak, master, but who knows, this might just be a Qi-barren area." Gerard said with his signature collected expression.

"This area is indeed weak, but I doubt the entire realm is like this. And Gerard, would you mind not calling me sir, master, or any of those things when we come across another person? I'd like to remain low-key until we figure out the power level of this world's civilization. Being called master would make that rather difficult."

Back in the Void Reality, I talked to Gerard many times about this whole "master" thing, but if it's how he prefers things, who am I to stop him? Well, his master apparently. Henry giggles to himself.

"Master Henry, your wish is my command." Gerard says with his usual neutral look on his face.

"I want you to know that I view you as more than a servant. I've raised the others from when they were babies, but not you. That means I see all of them as my children, and you are kind of like their uncle. You are part of this family Gerard, and if you ever wish to give up being a servant, I will support that decision."

"I thank you for your kindness, my lord. Don't fear, I will refrain from addressing you as my master or anything along those lines when in company. However I am not bothered by being your servant. In fact, it brings me great pleasure to serve as this wonderful family's butler."

  "Alright, thank you Gerard."

  ...

  "See any villages yet?"

  "I'm afraid not, Master Henry."

"Hmm, same here. I can't help but wonder why we haven't come across anything yet. Maybe this world just doesn't have many inhabitants?"

"It could also be that this world is not very developed yet."

  "Hmm could be."

  ...

As I try to bring up my quest menu, checking for are any easy ones I can do on the road, I discover that my familiar quest menu has disappeared. A large part of the system may have been bound to the Void Reality, as I now only have a single option left. Interdimensional Disciple Selection. I try to open it, but something blocks me. I suppose with Interdimensional in the name, I'm gonna have to be a fair bit stronger before I can use it.

This does explain why the Palace absorbed my inventory like that. I'm a little saddened by the fact that I've lost the system, it was an easy way to obtain... well, just about everything you need. But there's nothing I can do to get it back. Maybe at some point when I learn how to unlock this Disciple Selection option, I can abuse use the system again in some way. I sure do hope so.

We're on the second day now and we still haven't found anything. At all! We've covered at least 500km. We must have landed in some kind of wilderness area. I did notice that the spirit beasts were stronger in some areas compared to others. Maybe there are some treasures there worth looking at... But I'd hate to disturb any more ecosystems this week, so I left them alone for now.

Perhaps we did land in a Qi-barren area.

It's the dawn of another day, and we still haven't found many things that were noteworthy. In fact, we haven't found anything except for a couple of symbols in a small, old ruin. It must've been a shrine at some point. A singular stone pedestal seems to be the only thing to have survived the passage of time. Now it's completely abandoned and dilapidated, but it's the only man-made object in this entire forest.

After a closer look and a quick inspection, we found nothing interesting about these ruins. If there ever were any qi or gold in this place, it left over hundreds of years ago. I quickly copied the symbols we found in the ruins onto a scroll. After all, it's our first discovery in this new world. Who knows if it's a valuable finding?

In a nearby cave occupied by 2 masked figures. One of them was clearly the leader, as he had an unmistakable presence surrounding him, as well as a second mask perched upon his right shoulder.

"Sir, do we take them out?" the subordinate asked in a half-whisper, his eyes nervously flickering around the cave.

"No," the other figure replied calmly, "They don't seem to know what they're looking at, they're merely curious. Besides, they're not as weak as you think. Our fight would not go unnoticed."

We're almost done, we can not afford to be caught now.

"Just hurry up, pull another squad from HQ. Tell them we're moving up the deadline. If two curious tourists managed to find us, then a competent investigator can too. We don't need the Eternal Flame breathing down our necks." The leader-figure stated with a stern expression.

The underling gave a quick nod before melting back into the shadows, leaving the leader alone in the dim light of the cave.

No one will stop us. Not if I have anything to say about it.
