Chapter 12: Mephilis

"Alright, Hellwalker, now that we've awakened your Mind's Eye, we can start training your swordsmanship. Throughout these 3 remaining days, you will be having routine duels with both me and some members of the Demon Hunter Corps. I trust that this will be enough to push you towards Knight level. After all, there's nothing like practical training,"

"Yes, ma'am. I promise to do my utmost best."

"I know you will, you have a wife to avenge and a daughter to save after all. You may rest for an hour, and we will start the swordsmanship training."

"Yes." Henry sat down and leaned his back on a wall. He thought he might as well take this chance to learn more about Hell before going there, so he grabbed the book Joseph had given him about Hell and opened it.

Henry was surprised by this message. He was also even more surprised by the disintegration of the book in his hands. Luckily, everyone was doing their own thing, so nobody noticed this abnormality.

'It appears anything related to this Johnathan the Fourth is integrated in the system. I mean, finding his legacy is one of the two main quests. It appears whatever that legacy contains is important for me to grow as a demon slayer.'

Henry then opened the Knowledge tab in the system.

  He then chose that book.

  He chose the volume.

'Hmm....Let's check out the 72nd region, since that's where I'll be going.'

'Interesting. It seems this Mephilis is the most welcoming to humans among the other regions. I should definitely ask Captain Eve for the second volume to learn about the demons in it too.'

Henry kept reading about the regions until his hour of rest was over. Captain Eve, who had been helping the other Demon Hunter Corps members with their training, turned towards Henry.

"Let's begin, Hellwalker. Grab your sword and let's begin."

  "Yes, ma'am"

Henry unsheathed his sword and got into combat stance.

Eve charged towards Henry with tremendous force. However, the current Henry could now expect the trajectory of such a simple movement with his Mind's Eye. He deflected the attack, then rolled to the left and went in for a strike. However, Eve quickly jumped backwards, the strike barely missing her.

"Hellwalker, your maneuverability is good, but your strikes lack speed and precision. Put more force into your strikes."

  "Yes."

And so, Henry and Eve kept training all day. Henry ended up deflecting 45 strikes and couldn't land any hits for a total of 450 Exp.

"Alright, you may go back now. Come back early tomorrow so we can go grab your sword from old man Jun."

  "Understood. See you later."

And so, Henry left the Cathedral. He needed to buy some groceries, so he walked into the market.

"Hmm? What's this? I feel...on edge. Ah, whatever. My adrenaline levels must be high from all the spars."

He stopped by a tomato vendor.

  "How much per kilo, madam?"

The tomato vendor was a middle aged lady. "13 Fiorens, lad."

"Alright, I'd like two." He handed her one 25 Fioren coin and one 1 Fioren coin. The currency of the Severin Empire went as such: 1 Kevus was 100 Fiorens, and each Fioren was ten Bari. Henry was paid 15 Kevi per month in the army, a slightly above average wage.

The vendor packed two kilos for Henry in a paper bag and gave it to Henry, who now went to a diary store. However, as he walked, his senses warned him even more. He noticed a cloaked figure walking behind him with his Mind's Eye. He was still not skilled enough to sense details, so he couldn't sense malicious intent like skilled Mind's Eye users. Henry decided to keep his guard up anyways. He bought all his groceries, pretending to have not noticed the one tailing him.

After he finished buying his stuff, he walked into some back alleys in the market. He knew an alley where he can trap this person and question them. He kept on walking until they entered the alley. He then turned towards the figure.

"So, why are you tailing me? Reveal your face and identify yourself and we can avoid bloodshed."

The figure tried to run away, but they found out their back was to a wall. After hesitating for a few moments, the figure took off the hood, revealing a beautiful silver haired elven girl.

"I am Myriana Silvean, I was sent by my grandfather, the great oracle of the elven forest, Orivus Silvean. I have come here to ask for your aid, one fated to be the bane of demonkind."
