Description+Chacteristics:

  Desert flyers possess scales which typically are a dusty yellow allowing them to camouflage in the desert. These scales while not thick enough to prevent bites from similarly sized animals do provide an incredible amount of resistance to external temperatures. It was discovered that this was because their scales have millions of microscopic cavities full of air. This allows them to during the day soak up heat and then retain it at night once the temperature drops. This is necessary as they are cold blooded and thus not able to generate their own heat. As a result of them being cold blooded they are however able to go months without eating as they need far fewer daily calories to survive.

  Desert Flyers typically are six to seven feet tall with similar proportions to other drekmurians. This often means that they are underestimated though they are as strong as any drekmurian despite their size. As well, their fire breath is still as potent as any other fire breathing species of drekmurian.

  To deal with the prevalence of poisonous creatures in the desert Desert Flyers are immune to most poisons. This makes hunting said creatures much less risky of a prospect. To further aid in hunting they also are able to see in infrared allowing them to easily identify prey by their temperature. Lastly they possess extremely tough mouths and throats which allow them to eat cactus without needing to worry about their spikes.

  Desert Flyers live almost exclusively in the vast sands due both to their natural abilities being especially suited to it and the risk extended periods of cold poses to them.

  Culture:

  Desert Flyer culture is highly disunified with each family line having their own culture and practices, there are however some common trends. Most will live either by themselves or with a partner or child until they are old enough to set out on their own. They also tend to take trophies for any particularly difficult hunt they complete and wair said trophies as jewelry. For food they can eat both meat and plants though due to its ease to find most of their food will come from a cactus like plant native to the vast sands. Most see them as loners or hermits though the one I got to speak to described himself as just disinterested in the bustle of civilization.

  Anomalies:

  About one in five Desert Flyers will be born with the ability to poison anything they bite. While this poison is only strong enough to stagger a Desert Flyer it is lethal to most other creatures. These individuals are called Poison Flyers.

  Notes:

  When I finally met a Desert Flyer I was at first surprised by their size as they were only a head taller than me. They also seem like they, unlike the rest of Drekmur’s species, would be able to live in Earth gravity. So I was disappointed when I heard that they were so isolationist.

  I also wonder how they will be affected by our arrival. I know that the rest of Drekmur will be largely changed just from our technological level but with how they isolate themselves I don’t know how much they will be affected.
