On a space station shaped like an elongated top spinner. A man and a child sit at a table eating and talking.

  Man - "Daddy has to go on another mission now sweetie. The Dorgs will take care of you like always."

  Child - "But daddy you just got back like two days ago, and I miss you when you're gone."

  Man - "I told you my job is very important, but after this mission, my replacement will finish their training, and I'll officially retire. All my time will be spent with you."

  The child looks down twiddling their thumbs - "I knowww but how long will you be away this time?"

  The man pats the child's head - "It shouldn't take more than a few months, then we'll go to an amusement park alright?"

  Child - "Okayyy ..."

  The man and child hug then another pair shows up and take the child with them before getting out of site the child waves to their father the whole time, and the man puts on his cap grabs a bag, and heads towards a port of the station.

  Another few people approach him welcomingly.

  Person one - "How did it go Charles (the Dad)? Did Sheri (the child) take it too hard?"

  Person two - "You did tell her you are retiring after this mission right ya old man go spend time with your little girl but don't forget your buying drinks to celebrate that retirement when we get back."

  Charles - "Come on you guys of course I told her, so let's get a move on. The quicker we go the faster we'll all return."

  Person three - "Carlos, Genine I'm sure he told her, and he's right let's hurry on up. Get this mission done, get our mandatory paid vaaacaay, and just chill for a while, besides Manny and Park are waiting."

  The four head further into the port and stop in front of a decent model ship equipped with anti-Devourer technology, and the ship itself is designed for speed and covered in symbols showcasing it being a rift team vehicle.

  A ship with those symbols has priority at any warp gates and is unlikely to be stopped by anyone whether official galactic military, inspectors or pirates.

  Anyone found delaying a confirmed rift team vehicle is subject to not only their own extermination but possibly their home planet and direct family members for risking a universal threat growing in power and becoming unstoppable.

  The same punishment is met out to those found falsely using the symbol for benefit.

  As they begin to bored Manny peeks out - "Took y'all long enough, come on we got a universe to save."

  The ship undocks from the space station and flies off towards a large ring in space.

  The rings make use of natural rifts or tunnels in space that connects tonnes of different colonies and places within the cosmos.

  The Rift Team's Ship passes by many others to the front of the line with many almost complaining before seeing the symbols on the ship.

  Upon reaching the front a message comes into the ship.

  Warp gate Command - "Rift Team Delta welcome to our warp gate, Command has already notified us, and you are ready to go through. May your journey be blessed."

  Rift Team Delta - "And may your life be bountiful."

  Their ship enters the ring and is instantly warped from one part of the universe to another.

  At the other warp gate - "Incoming Rift Team make sure to not disturb them in any way."

  A rift in space in the ring and the ship appears.

  Charles - "Alright guys we got around a week's trip from here to sector 186. This is a routine expulsion of a devourer nothing we haven't seen or done before. Set the course and let's take inventory and make sure to stay in areas with connections so we'll be ready for any corrections needed or new info on this devourer."
