Prologue

“This needs to happen. If they fail-” The murmurs echoed softly. Aelix positioned herself behind some boxes, crouching down to avoid being spotted. She watched as some people in cloaks conversed in a dark alleyway.

“They won’t, I have faith. As long as the distraction happens Kiju will execute the King.” The voice that was heard now was completely distinct from the earlier one.

Take out the king? Are they a group of assassins?

Who was that name they mentioned? Kiju…?

  Why did this not feel…real?

A third voice spoke up, pulling her from her thoughts.

"Just stick to the plan and don’t get caught. That disgusting slime-scaled monarch will get what’s coming to him soon enough." There was an aura around him. Especially with how he spoke with a cold calculated tone. It was almost as if ice has frozen over.

Slime-scaled monarch...? Could that mean her father?

She felt a huge sense of dread like a wave pushing her down. Her father? Why would anyone want to kill her father? He was well-liked by his people, and hasn’t done anything to provoke otherwise!

She felt a hand on her back, and turned around to some guards behind her. “I’ve got you now, you sneaky rat!” A firm male voice spoke, she gasped, jolted awake from her dream.
