50. Tour

After waiting a few minutes, a large bespeckled man with two black horns protruding from his forehead enters the room.

“Please follow me sir.” He says succinctly.

I nod and do so. As we begin our walk, he quickly asks me.

“Would you like a tour or would you like to be shown to you room?” The man asks.

  “Uhm, a tour please.”

  “Right away.”

We begin my quick tour around the building. Most of it is what I would expect from a building like this; lot’s of meeting rooms, some offices, and some small kitchenettes.

Though there were a few interesting places to see, most of which giving me some small insight into the logistics of the wider multiverse.

For one, there was the power room, which consisted of a large ‘crystal’ in the middle of a room witch multiple wire and cable with runes engraved on them. Around those, are multiple researcher type people who mess with some nearby magitech and look at sensors all day.

The assistant person summarized briefly how it all worked, but to be honest most of it went over my head. What I got from it was that mana and energy is sucked from the property’s atmosphere, shoved through this crystal, and then finally moved throughout the building to wherever it may be needed. They also supplement the energy with some imported energy if they need to do so for a special event or project.

Another interesting place was the gym, which featured much more than the average gym on earth would. There was a full blown simulation room where I could test my strength against combat AI’s or practice using some sort of skill or ability in whatever environment I wish.

There was also gravity rooms, meditation/cultivation rooms, and even gaming pods. I asked the assistant what they were in the gym for, and he replied by saying that I could have simulated fights against other real opponents all sorts of different games. He told me a few examples such as a sniping game, a racing game (on foot or in vehicles), and, to my interest, a dueling game where I could challenge other opponents one on one in an arena-style challenge.

‘Very interesting, I might have to come back here at some point after the test is over with. Assuming I pass and all that.’ I say to myself.

The next interesting place I was shown was the talent and strength calculation center, where a generative ai gathers as much information about current events and happenings from across the multiverse to give a generalized guideline for multiple individuals, organizations, and superpower’s strength.

What interested me the most about it, wasn’t so much the technology behind it, though that in and of itself is at least somewhat interesting, but the names and faces of the individuals at the top of the ranking.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Reading the top names, unsurprisingly I fail to recognize any them. The top spot is taken by someone named Faolin, followed by Brutox and followed then by someone named Formilocke.

I ask the assistant about these people, and he tells me that most of the top people are leaders of major factions. He points out the watcher at rank 42 and a few other notable figures to take note of on the list.

All of the top one-hundred people on the individuals list are tier 19, and the same would’ve been said for the top five-hundred were it not for one name that is tier 18, Panzer. At rank two-hundred and seventy-five, somehow the ai ranks him higher than half of the peak existences of power in our plane, and he’s not even at the max tier or level yet!

I decide to also ask him about that person in particular and he immediately begins sweating profusely.

“All you need to know about that person is he’s dangerous, really dangerous.” Is what he replies with.

I stare at him confused but decide to let the matter go.

‘I’ll ask Gael or Bretta next time I see them.’

Looking at the rankings of the superpowers, I’m surprised to learn that neither the Empire, nor the Kingdom, are ranked in the top hundred. The Empire placing one-hundred and seventh and the Kingdom placing one-hundred and eighty-fourth.

It really puts things into perspective on how large the multiverse is. My entire life I thought of the Empire as this unstoppable force of nature that no one can contend with, but here I find out there are about a hundred of superpowers that could do just that.

The last interesting facility I saw was library, which, contrary to my expectations, did not have a single book in sight. Instead, there were tens of towers of magitech that reached close to ten feet tall. Apparently all the information available is accessible inside those towers, all one needs is a company tablet and permission from the librarian to access certain information.

Looking around for the librarian, I’m stumped as I don’t find her in the relatively small room. Seeing my confusion, the assistant says quickly.

“Ah, the librarian is a Praxorian, a race of worms that gains consciousness once inside a piece of magitech. Very nice fellow that man, so please be kind and courteous should you ever get the chance to speak with him.”

I stare at him blankly before shaking my head and deciding to ignore the litany of questions in my head right now.

Finally, after passing by a bunch of classrooms I’m told are for prospect and branch associate training, we reach my room. Walking inside, I’m immediately blown away by the luxury of the place. Tall ceilings, chandeliers, my own kitchen, a full hot-tub sized bath, and everything over the top and expensive you could think of.

Rather than be impressed and excited to live there, I’m filled with dread at the possibility of living in, or worse getting used to, such an uncomfortable and imposing environment.

“Well, if that’ll be all, I’ll make my way out and allow you to get settled in.” The assistant says as he begins to walk out the door

Before he does, I stop him, and say quickly.

“Uhm, not to be rude or anything, but are there any other rooms I could have?” I ask.

He tilts his head in confusion.

“Is there something wrong with this one? If I may say, this type of room is quite literally the best there is in the whole building, only reserved for prospects, potential prospects, and visiting associates.”

“Uh yeah, I know, but it makes me feel, I don’t know, uncomfortable? Listen, are there any other rooms I could have? Ones that are a little more ‘humble’?”

“Hmm, yes I suppose we could do that, though second room changes, so no changing your mind once it’s decided.”

  I nod at this.

“Alright, if you say so. Follow me.”
