Chapter 98: Mini Boss Battle

Skippy landed on the roof of the building just in time to see Seraphel skewered on Travis's Sword after Luke punched him. Seraphel clung to the sword that had emerged from his chest, struggling weakly.

"Lizard Wizard!!! Did … did you just cock block me?" Starkiller asked aghast.

  Travis rolled his eyes.

"Fuck you, Starkil--" Travis's words were cut off as Seraphels body exploded into snow.

The blast nearly knocked Travis off the roof as the Drow reformed out of the snow. He stood up uninjured, but he was clearly winded. He was breathing heavily, and his shoulders slumped as he put distances between them.

"[Second Wind]," Skippy muttered to himself.

"Technically, it's called [Spring Snow]," Travis corrected them as he spat out snow.

"He's already used his [Immortality] skill, so he only has a [Escape] skill as a final lifeline," Starkiller hummed to himself.

"Mine," Skippy said as he activated [Mirage Step]

Skippy teleported practically on top of Seraphel, his sword flashing downwards as his two weapon mastery skills worked together to turn the simple moonstone longsword into the deadliest blade on the planet.

Seraphel jerked back, partially parrying the attack with his new ice arm. Partially as Skippy's sword still cleaved through a good chunk of the ice arm. Seraphel staggered backward, his ice arm morphing and recovering instantly.

Seraphel lashed out with his swords meeting Skippy's single blade as they traded blows. Seraphel was stronger, but Skippy was far faster. Their blades clashed over and over again as Seraphel was forced on the defensive. But Skippy could do better.

"[Death or Glory]," Skippy said as a red glow started to emit from his body as his total hp dropped by half as his stats shot up by 50%.

Skippy felt his attacks becoming sharper, his blows stronger and his movements faster even as the world slowed down around him. Seraphel didn't falter. Instead, he activated his own boosting skill. His stats rose to and then surpassed Skippy's own.

Skippy quickly found himself on the back foot, and then Starkiller arrived. He shot forwards with Jingu Bang held high before he brought it down. Seraphel lept out of the way as the staff cracked the ceiling under their feet.

"Well, since everyone else is whipping out their power, I might as well whip out my own." Starkiller chuckled as a familiar white aura surrounded him as he activated [Primate Fury].

"Could you please stop with the innuendo?!" Skippy said.

Despite the spectacle, none of them had stopped moving. All three of them kept hopping around as they tried to score a hit on Seraphel.

"Oh, come on, Skippy, you know I love you," Starkiller said as he tried to slam Jingu Bang into Seraphels head.

But Seraphel ducked under the attack as he parried Skippy's own sword into, causing shockwaves to race up Skippy's arms.

Seraphel shot dozens of ice spikes out of his armour, or he tried to. As the spikes emerged from his armour, the entire thing evaporated into mana and was swallowed by Travis's reptilian maw.

"I'm sorry. Is there room for a foursome?" Travis asked as he [Blink Stepped] onto Seraphel, his sword glowing with magic as he lunged forward.

  "Not you, too," Skippy groaned.

Despite his protests, Skippy and Starkiller didn't miss the opportunity and dogpiled the asshole. Seraphel blocked the blow from Travis as he parried Skippy's sword, leaving himself open as Starkiller kicked his leg out from underneath him.

Seraphel stumbled, his ice armour already reforming as he tried to regain his footing while dodging Skippy's sword, only to get blasted by Travis's breath attack knocking him to the ground.

Skippy lunged, aiming to put his sword between the drow's ribs, only to feel his bloodline scream at him, forcing him to leap out of the way as a pillar of ice popped out of the ground, nearly impaling him.

Suddenly spikes of ice were everywhere, and Skippy was forced to dance across icicles.

Skippy felt his Bloodline skill, [Rataskors Instincts], scream at him again as Seraphel entered the sphere of perception, ready to decapitate him.

Skippy flipped through the air over Seraphels head as the drow tried and failed to take his head, and for good measure, he kicked the asshole in the head, getting a little extra air time from the kickoff.

"Ha, in your face!!" Skippy cheered as he landed on the roof.

Seraphel hadn't even recovered from his failed attack when Starkiller smashed his helmeted head with Jingu Bang. The Drow took the legendary weapon full in the face, doing a full back flip from the impact before Travis blasted him with another breath attack. The beam of pure magic stripped the drow's magical armour off his body, leaving him vulnerable again.

Starkiller swung Jingu Bang around for the killing blow when Seraphel disappeared. Instantly Skippy felt his instincts scream at him as he brought up his sword in a hard parry to meet Seraphels jagged ice blade as it rushed towards the back of his head.

Connecting solidly, Skippy felt the impact of the blow shoot up his arm. Gritting his teeth, he pushed against the blade for what felt like an eternity before it came to a stop, but in reality, it had been little more than a second.

Then, without so much as a pause, he slid the blade downwards and off the frozen blade as his sword swung around to deflect the second razor-sharp ice sword slashing through the air. Skippy quickly realized he had no chance to block this one. Seraphel's second blade threatened to disembowel him completely should he let it finish its sweeping arc.

So, instead, he deflected it, bringing his blade down and hitting the second sword just hard enough to change its trajectory, sending it flying harmlessly past his head. As Seraphel completed his deadly swing, Skippy's feet dug into the ground, propelling him directly into its now exposed guard.

Raising his sword upwards, Skippy saw the world blur as he lunged forward. It was an instant later that he was thrusting the blade directly into the Seraphels body.

Unfortunately, the blade failed to pierce through Seraphels reformed ice armour Skippy cursed. While his skills gave him an ungodly good at punching through most defences, he didn't have a good response for armour. Except for [Tyrants Die], but that thing had a massive cooldown. Despite Skippy's internal griping, his sword wasn't ineffective. Quite the opposite, it left a massive gouge in the armour.

Seraphel twisted to try and stab Skippy, but this time Starkiller lunged at him. Ruy Jing Bang was swinging for Seraphels head. Despite not being in his line of sight, Seraphel ducked around Jingu Bang, dancing away from them only to nearly get decapitated by Travis. The Lizard Wizard's blade nicked the drow's neck but failed to hit an artery.

"Why is this asshole so good at this?" Skippy gripped.

"He's slippery," Travis muttered, his eyes narrowing as he tracked Seraphel's movements.

"It's mostly just boring," Starkiller gripped as he twirled his staff and lunged forward again.

"Oh, what, you don't enjoy a proper battle," Skippy asked.

"He's already blown most of his load," Starkiller said in a bored voice as he swung at Seraphel's head. "Most of his skills are broken from soul damage, passives, or on cooldown except for a [Escape] skill. It's three-on-one, and the Lizard Wizard is literally eating his gear. He's skilled, but he's checkmated."

Skippy couldn't disagree with that assessment, but Starkiller wasn't giving this nutcase enough credit. Even without his tricks, he was deadly. Skippy let out a breath as his eye focused on the stamina bar. He had just enough to use his capstone skill. Better to use it now and finish this.

Skippy wasn't about to be left behind. He activated [Mirage Step], and he disappeared, leaving behind a perfect illusionary copy as he reappeared behind Seraphel, his blade swinging down, aiming for a lethal blow with his [Regicide] capstone.

With five times [Perfected strike], Skippy's blade fell with enough force to cleave through steel and yet Seraphel spun around, his ice blade glowing as he parried Skippy's attack.

"[Deny the Reaper]," Seraphel taunted as he named the counter-execution skill he had just used.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Seraphel's second blade glowed as he swung at Skippy's head, throwing his own attack back into his face. But he still had [Executioner's Judgment]. Skippy smacked away Seraphels empowered attack before kicking the drow. Even with only 10% of the attack's original strength, Skippy was able to send Seraphel bouncing across the ice into the waiting arms of Travis.

Travis took his chance and unleashed another [Aether Dragon's Breath]. The azure blue of the beam of pure magic ripped apart what little of Seraphel's armour as the internal magic was destroyed, and his body was covered in magic burns.

  "Now!" Skippy shouted.

Starkiller didn't need to be told even once. He had already charged forward with Jingu Bang raised high before Skippy had said anything.

Seraphel tried to raise an ice shield, but Jingu Bang expanded to the size of a telephone pole as it was brought down. It shattered the ice barrier like glass crashed into the unarmoured Drow, and then it broke through the roof.

"Dammit, Starkiller again?!" Skippy swore as they fell through the roof and into the wrecked room below.

Skippy had no idea what this room might have been. At this point, the goblins had already wrecked the place beyond recognition.

Seraphel lay on the ground, struggling even to raise up his own body as he vomited up blood. Travis didn't even give him a moment to get away.

"Quicksand!" he shouted, and the ground beneath Seraphel softened, allowing the Drow to sink into the floor. He struggled to get out, but the Lizard Wizard had already cancelled the spell, leaving Seraphel trapped up to his shoulders in the floor, heavily injured, missing an arm and covered in blood.

"You're done," Travis said coldly, his sword glowing with magical energy as he prepared the final blow.

"Well, I mean, he still has that [Escape] skill," Starkiller said.

Seraphel's eyes flickered with annoyance. Then he disappeared with an explosion, sending shards of ice everywhere and leaving all three of them speechless.

"God dammit, I was kidding!!" Starkiller all but screamed as the notifications rolled in.

Skippy ignored the massive scrolling list of skill level-ups as he refocused on the conversation.

"Tactically, it wasn't a bad move," Travis noted as he collapsed to the ground, completely exhausted.

"Oh fuck the two of you." Skippy shot back.

"What did I do?!" Starkiller asked.

"You literally reminded him he could escape, And now he fucking ran away. Do you have any idea how hard it's going to be to track that asshole down?" Skippy groaned.

"That sounds like a you problem. I'm only here to keep him away from the fighting. I've done that to the best of my abilities. Mission complete, contact fulfilled," Starkiller stated.

Skippy moved over to check on Travis. He was mostly fine, but the lizard wizard was experiencing the biggest problem of being a hybrid fighter. His stats were all over the place, so he ended up having to exert himself far more than the rest of them just to keep up. The Lizard Wizard was out of the rest of the fight.

"Where is the rest of your team?" Skippy asked breathlessly.

"I got their bodies," Travis huffed.

"Great job, Lizard Wizard," Skippy said as he sat down beside him.

Even if he was better off than Travis was utterly exhausted from that fight. He was a [Rogue], not a [Duelist]. He was made for heavy precision strikes, not drawn-out battles. That thought made Skippy chuckle. His old build really had been too far from his standards. Tom had been right; he needed this change more than he had ever realized.

  DING!!!

Skippy's eyes darted to the notification, and his eyes opened wide.
