This announcement came to me in a dream... (no really, although I’d been reading writing craft books right up until passing out, so that might have a little to do with it)

  I really wanted this to be the relaunch, ya know? Like, we were never going to get back on rising star, we were never going to make front page, but that was fine. Posting to Royal Road is an experiment in audience building for me and while hitting RS would expedite that tremendously (so I am told), we’ll get em next time. I have other concepts I’ve been poking at, I know better now how a clean launch should look.

  Cryptmother is by no means a failure to me, but man, did I not want to go on hiatus at any point during this relaunch. That was the whole goal; relaunch Cryptmother as cleanly as possible, no hiatus, just consistent chapter posting with a tense change and some edits.

  A little bit, that’s on me. I could have just rewritten the entire volume, arc, book (and settled on what to call it) and had a 100k+ backlog to burn. But the thing about once you start sharing chapters and having readers is it feels a teensy bit addictive. Not having anything up to be able to point to and say hey look no fr I am a writer! really weighs on me. Almost as much as having to take unplanned hiatuses just when I was thinking damn, I think I have it this time.

  So there’s that.

  I’m rebuilding my backlog (that’s it, that should probably be the whole post), although I admit, I’ve gotten in my head again. It’s going slow. I will, I think, begin posting chapters to my Ream and Patreon. I absolutely do not expect anyone to subscribe right now, this is primarily for me to get the little dopamine hit of ‘posted chapter’ to get me through the rebuildening. (And even if no one is actually reading them, look! I’m writing! there’s proof!)

  I’m also writing a short story for the RRCM again. Finishing that will come first. I’m not delusional, but some ad money would be nice if I can pull it off. It has nothing to do with Cryptmother but at least it’s shaken off some of the rust.
