System sensed the essence of his own bloodline and compared it with the bloodline of the pupating insect. He was trying to activate the [Cold Resistance] ability contained in his [Insect Adaptability].
However, when he used his experience bar to activate [Cold Resistance], System found that the experience stored within his body was actually somewhat out of his control, and it gave him a very strange feeling.
He remembered the way the frost dragon had yawned right before it had left. It was that yawn that was responsible for System's current miserable situation.
Still, the cold air the dragon had yawned out had suddenly increased his experience bar by a lot, and that strange frost energy hadn't disappeared. Instead, it showed up to cause trouble again as soon as System used [Insect Ability Activation].
He felt the blood in his body and the blood in the pupating insect produce irregur rhythms, and his experience bar started going down little by little, but he couldn't activate the [Cold Resistance] ability at all. Instead, he began to activate something that he himself couldn't expin clearly. This thing didn't seem to exist in the bloodline of insects at all.
System felt a special frost energy, which seemed to be surging out of the falling snowfkes, begin to converge inside of him. His body quickly grew stiff again. Soon after, his heart gradually stopped beating once more due to the cold.
After that, he fell into a deep sleep...
...
When System woke up again, he was very confused.
Fortunately, he had the timer function in the [Tools Menu], which let him know that he'd been unconscious for a total of five days.
System originally thought that this camity would kill him, but he'd somehow managed to unexpectedly survive. He also didn't feel cold in the slightest even though he was buried in the snow.
He had no time to continue thinking, as he suddenly realized that he was ravenously hungry. This feeling of hunger could be said to be the strongest he'd felt ever since being reborn as a grasshopper.
He swept his mandibles around and started eating the nearby snow to fill his stomach. Swallowing snow didn't see to have any negative effects on his body. He could feel it slowly begin melting in his stomach after mixing with his gastric juices, which relieved his hunger.
Surprisingly, System could actually taste a fvor from the snow, unlike the tasteless rainwater he'd always been drinking.
He tasted a light and salty fvor from the snow, somewhat simir to MSG, and it left behind a vague, fresh aftertaste.
This was the first time System had tasted salty food since coming to this world. Before, the food he'd eaten had basically only had three fvors—sweet, sour, and bitter.
Among them, his body liked sweet and sour foods quite a bit, while bitter food were harmful to him. Usually, food that was toxic would taste bitter.
He was excited after his first time experiencing the salty and fresh fvors, so he started swallowing the snow piled around him more vigorously.
As he ate more snow, System felt a strange frost energy that seemed to have appeared in his stomach before it started rushing up to his throat.
There seemed to be a new organ in his throat, but System had no intention of inspecting it at this time. He was so hungry that he worked as hard as he could to swallow more snow.
However, it didn't take long for System to realize that swallowing snow couldn't actually solve his hunger at all. After the snow melted into water in his gastric juices, he only felt a very hollow feeling of fullness.
It wouldn't be long before the melted snow was excreted from his body, which would only make him even hungrier.
System moved his tentacles around to gather together some of dead leaves and frozen weeds around him, then started eating them.
Compared to the salty snow, dead leaves and weeds could fill his stomach much better.
As his hunger gradually eased, System finally noticed that his body had become very strange.
The pupating insect he'd been connected to before he'd fallen unconscious had disappeared, and the remaining half of his hind leg and his left middle leg had also vanished...
System found a lot of debris in the snow under him, including the pupa's shell and green exoskeleton fragments from his leg.
He specuted that he'd likely eaten the pupating insect while he'd been unconscious, then, out of extreme hunger, he'd also eaten his remaining leg.
Perhaps because of insufficient nutrients in his body, his [Limb Regeneration] ability couldn't fully function. There was no sign of his legs growing back. Instead, tentacles had grown out from the locations where his legs used to be, with some pces having two tentacles, while others had three.
Added up, there were a total of fifteen tentacles.
The fifteen tentacles were of different lengths and thicknesses. Some were long and thin, while others were short and thick. The longest one reached nearly thirty centimeters, while the shortest was less than five centimeters. System assumed that these differences were due to the unequal nutrients avaible to the tentacles when they'd formed.
In addition to his newly grown tentacles, System found that his once-enrged abdomen had shrunk down to a quarter of its previous size. He guessed that all of the energy stored inside his abdomen had been exhausted over the past few days.
After he used his tentacles to continuously collect weeds and dead leaves from the snow and stuff them into his mouth, System's hunger subsided a lot. His mind gradually regained crity, and he began thinking about his current situation.
This heavy snowfall was obviously much more serious than System's worst prediction. In just five days, the climate here had gone from early autumn to deep winter.
The snow buried on top of him was dozens of centimeters deep. Even when he stretched his longest tentacle upward, it barely managed to poke through into the air above.
Fortunately, for some unknown reason, he'd mastered a strange frost power. Otherwise, even if he'd obtained [Cold Resistance], he might not be able to survive this extreme weather.
This ability had caused a new organ to form near his throat, and it had also caused special changes in his blood.
Although he was still a cold-blooded animal, there seemed to be something special in his blood now. Something was preventing his blood from freezing even in this severe cold.

[Frost Breath] (6/15): A Derived Skill activated by [Insect Adaptability], [Digital Code], [Data Compition], and an unknown energy. Allows icy breath to be sprayed out using special gnds.
...
After he relieved his hunger, System tried to spray his [Frost Breath] using the newly formed gnds in his throat.
He could spray out a stream of ice-blue gas from the new gnds in his throat. The area of the breath attack was about the same size as a Coke can from his previous life. He could spray up to three times in a row, and it would take about five hours to fully recover after spraying.
However, he didn't know the specific effects of this breath. All he could tell was that his [Frost Breath] had no effect on the snow he was buried under.
System used his tentacles to move his body through the snow. Being buried in the snow wouldn't solve his problems, after all, so he had to crawl out.
Although progress was slow, his body was steadily rising upward little by little as he used his tentacles to fidget back and forth.
Only by going up to the surface could he see what the forest looked like after this snowy invasion. He could also use his tentacles to climb up the trees and eat some frozen leaves.
