=== SPECIFIC DETAILS - MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD ===
Before the events of the story, the female protagonist is forced to marry a man who frequently pressures her into sex. While with that man, she becomes pregnant, and discovers that one of her fetuses is not developing correctly. She attempts to use her magic to ‘fix’ it, but fails, leading to her miscarrying. These events are alluded to as vague flashbacks. While the protagonist’s current partner is somewhat unpleasant, he does not (and will not) force anything on her.
