Little Misfortune

  Little Misfortune

'To you lucky little urchins, I may breed

For I am the treasure you want to seek,

So little Misfortune you may come and be!

But little misfortune for certain you will see!'

She walks, she speaks: 'Knowledge is what I need!'

Running and searching, dancing to the beat,

But soon to realise the nature of man,

'What is that cruel shadow, what is your plan?'

Losing innocent eyes, her heart's dying,

Because the world is bleeding and lying.

The dark passenger slowly sighs and chimes,

Loathing to take the girl before her time.

'Am I truly the one you want to speak?

Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.

Being the lonely path you should not seek,

I am as old as time who brings your end,

I am the world's mercy you cannot bend.'

Little Misfortune feeling numb and coy,

She takes her sharpest toy to feel some joy.

She cries and smiles, knowing to be alive:

'Some dead delight to feel! My sorrow thrives!'

Darkness patiently waits for her demise,

Lamely he fixes his eyes on the skies,

Shouting to heaven, his duty's shame,

He accuses the cursed, the one to blame.

'Sad undertaker asks me how I could?

I laugh gaily and answer: because I should!

I'm your very cane, I'm their cruel vengeance,

Your pain is one of my great inventions.’

Little Misfortune on the dirty ground,

Little Misfortune hears a sorry sound.

‘Little Miss, I can't bear to see you fade,

So say my name and I'll come to your aid:

I am your fortune like you are for me.

I am the soothing that death cannot be.

I am agony's bane to wipe your tears,

I'm yours forever, till your final years.'
