The first bullet shattered the window, sending shards of glass across the room.
"DOWN!" Mike tackled Felix just as the second shot ripped through the wooden wall behind them. Amina was already moving, flipping the table for cover. The laptop tumbled, the USB drive still plugged in.
"Who the hell—" Felix started, but the next round of bullets drowned him out.
Mike peeked through the busted window. Three men. Black tactical gear. Suppressors. This wasn’t Kamau’s gang. This was military.
Amina swore. "Wafula’s people."
They weren’t here to negotiate.
Felix clutched his head. "Okay, okay. This is bad. Very bad. Who’s got a plan that doesn’t involve us dying?"
Another bullet ricocheted off the metal chair beside him.
Mike’s brain worked fast. They needed to get out. Now.
He pointed to the back door. "Felix, window. Amina, grab the drive."
Felix didn’t argue. He scrambled toward the broken window, shoving through the shattered glass as Amina yanked the USB free.
Then the back door exploded inward.
A soldier stormed in, rifle raised.
Mike didn’t think. He grabbed the nearest object—a rusted frying pan—and hurled it with everything he had.
CLANG.
The pan struck the guy's helmet with a sickening THUD. He staggered, gun swinging wildly.
Amina didn’t hesitate. She lunged, twisting the rifle from his hands and slamming the butt into his ribs. The man crumpled, choking on a pained gasp.
Mike blinked. "Did we just—"
"GO!" Amina shoved him toward the window.
They dove through just as the room erupted in gunfire.

The Streets of Makutano – 9:47 PM
They hit the ground running.
Felix panted. "WHERE ARE WE GOING?"
Mike pulled him into a side alley. "Away from the bullets, genius!"
Behind them, boots thundered against the pavement. The soldiers weren’t giving up.
Amina took a sharp turn. "The market’s up ahead!"
Felix wheezed. "What, you wanna go shopping first?"
Mike yanked him forward. "Less sarcasm, more running!"
They burst into the market—a chaotic mess of wooden stalls and flickering lanterns. Vendors shouted, oblivious to the danger, as the three of them weaved through the crowd.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
A vendor swung a live chicken in Felix’s face. He screamed, smacking it away. "I’M ALLERGIC TO BIRDS!"
Amina nearly tripped laughing.
Then the bullets came.
The first round shattered a stall of mangoes, sending fruit flying. The second buried into a metal pot, the clang echoing across the market.
People screamed. Vendors dove for cover. Chaos erupted.
Felix ducked behind a stall. "This is a terrible plan!"
Mike pulled him up. "We don’t have a plan!"
Amina spotted something ahead—a moving truck, engine running. The driver was haggling with a vendor, back turned.
Her eyes lit up. "New plan!"
She sprinted.
Mike groaned. "I hate when she does that!"

The Truck – Seconds Later
Amina flung the door open and punched the driver.
The man yelped, clutching his nose. "What the—"
She yanked him out. "Sorry!"
Mike and Felix scrambled in as Amina jumped into the driver’s seat.
Felix barely shut the door before she slammed the gas.
The truck lurched forward, crashing through wooden stalls. Vendors screamed, diving out of the way as they tore through the market.
Mike clutched the dashboard. "Remind me never to let you drive!"
Felix looked behind them. The soldiers had stolen motorcycles.
Mike swore. "They don’t quit!"
Amina gritted her teeth. "Then we make them."

The Chase – Makutano Highway
The truck roared onto the highway, but the motorcycles were gaining fast.
Felix gripped the seat. "We’re in a TRUCK, they’re on BIKES! This isn’t a fair fight!"
Mike’s eyes flickered to the back. Crates.
He grinned. "It is now."
He climbed into the back, yanking a crate open. Bananas.
Felix blinked. "You’re not serious."
Mike smirked. "Mario Kart, baby."
He grabbed a bunch and hurled them out the back.
The first soldier swerved, barely avoiding the mess. The second wasn’t so lucky—his bike spun out, sending him crashing onto the pavement.
Felix stared. "That actually worked?"
Mike grabbed more. "Let’s find out."

The Standoff – Bridge Ahead
They were almost clear. But then—
Headlights. Blocking the road.
Black SUVs. Armed men.
Amina cursed. "They boxed us in."
Felix’s voice cracked. "I really don’t like this season finale."
Mike’s mind raced. No way out.
Unless…
He glanced at the bridge railing. Below—the river.
Felix saw where he was looking. "No. Absolutely not. I’d rather die."
Mike shrugged. "You just might."
Amina didn’t even hesitate. "Hold on!"
She yanked the wheel.
The truck slammed into the railing—then went over.
---
The Fall – Seconds of Silence
The air vanished from their lungs.
The truck spun. The river rushed up fast.
Felix screamed. "I REGRET EVERYTHING!"
Mike braced. "HOLD—"
SPLASH.
Water exploded around them.
Darkness. Silence.
---
The River – Minutes Later
Mike coughed. Alive.
Felix surfaced, gasping. "I hate all of you!"
Amina was already swimming for the shore. "Move before they come down!"
Mike shook his head, dazed. "We just—We actually—"
Felix wheezed. "We’re either dead, or really, really lucky."
Mike exhaled. "I’ll take lucky."
They swam. The trucks above flashed headlights. They weren’t safe yet.
But as they crawled onto the muddy shore, dripping and exhausted, they were still breathing.
Felix collapsed. "Next time, we just take a damn bus."
Mike chuckled. "Next time, we don’t steal from a warlord."
Amina sat up. The USB was still in her fist.
They still had the proof. But now?
They had nowhere left to run.
