Whether there's sin or not, what kind of sin is it? Before meeting Yan Wang Ye and Cui Pan Guan in hell, one must first involve a set of laws. Let's temporarily call this law "Hell's Code"!
I came here because I felt a new inspiration and didn't want to give up. If I couldn't let Bai Shuangxi return to the world of the living in the next chapter, it would be unbearable.

That's not impossible, but the distance is too far from the original intention and plot design. In order to write something new, I had to dig deep into my heart, which was a bit difficult for Da Hua. But... but... the problem comes again!
This "Hell Law" is not just a simple three words and two sentences, to understand the story behind it, you can't just take out all the key points for everyone to learn, at least let the outline of the "Hell Law" with its strict cause-and-effect and punishments hang there? That way, your later stories will be more interesting, and big talk won't dare to ignore them and spout nonsense.
Among the eighteen layers, each with its own crime and punishment, I suddenly felt like I had seen it all before. Haha, let me explain, this chapter was added later, because Comrade Bai Shuangxi still needs to return to the world of the living to do things, especially to complete his dream of becoming a civil servant, serving the people wholeheartedly. Haha, lingering in hell is only a small part of this book, but just this section has been a big headache.

The Eighteen Levels of Hell (also known as the Eighteen Hells, the Eighteen Heavy Hells, or the Eighteen Mud Millstones) is a name for hell. In Chinese folklore, Yanluo Wang is the king of hell and has eighteen judges under him who are in charge of the eighteen levels of hell. After Buddhism was introduced to China, this concept was adopted and interpreted by Taoism.
According to legend, those who are unfilial to their parents in the mortal world will be thrown into the Ice Hell; corrupt officials and oppressors of the people will be thrown into the Mortar Hell; those who cheat customers by shoddy work or deception will be thrown into the Sawing Hell; robbers will be thrown into the Fireboard Hell; prostitutes will be thrown into the Oil Cauldron... The Eighteen Hells are a product of human imagination, intended to encourage people to do good deeds and accumulate virtues in their lifetime.
The eighteen layers of hell in the "Eighteen Mu Li Jing" are arranged according to the length of time and severity of punishment. Each layer is twenty times more painful than the previous one, with a lifespan that is one time longer. The eighteen layers of hell listed are transliterations from Sanskrit: Guang Jiu Ju, Ju Xu Qu Lue, Sang Jiu Du, Lou, Fang Zu, Cao Wu Bei Ci, Dou Lu Nan Dan, Bu Lu Ban Hu, Wu Jing Du, Ni Lu Du, Wu Lue, Wu Man, Wu Jian, Wu Hu, Xu Jian Ju, Mo Dou Gan Zhi Hu, Ou Tong Tu, Chen Mo. The "layers" of the eighteen layers of hell do not refer to spatial levels, but rather to differences in time and punishment, especially in terms of time.
The first prison is calculated as 37,000 years in the human world as one day, 30 days as a month, and 12 months as a year. The sinful spirits must serve their sentence for 10,000 years (equivalent to 130 billion years in the human world). The second prison calculates 70,000 years in the human world as one day, and the sinful spirits must serve their sentence for 20,000 years (equivalent to 400 billion years in the human world). The subsequent prisons' sentences are calculated by doubling the previous prison's sentence. Calculated this way, by the 18th prison, the sentence is equivalent to over 2.3 times 10 to the power of 200 years in the human world. The sinful spirits that fall into it suffer an indescribable pain.
The First Layer, Tongue-Pulling Hell
All the people in the world who stir up trouble, slander and harm others, have a glib tongue, cleverly debate, and deceive people with lies. After death, they are thrown into the Tongue-Pulling Hell, where little ghosts pry open the person's mouth, use iron pincers to grip their tongue, and slowly pull it out... not pulling it out all at once, but stretching it out, slowly dragging... afterwards entering the Scissor Hell, Iron Tree Hell.
Second Layer, Scissor Hell
In the underworld, if a woman's husband dies prematurely and she becomes a widow, if you persuade her to remarry or play matchmaker for her, then after your death, you will be sent to the Scissors Hell, where your ten fingers will be cut off! Not to mention that when her husband is still alive, like Wang Po in "Water Margin", Pan Jinlian had no intention of seducing Ximen Qing, but Wang Po instigated her to curry favor with Ximen and gave her poison to harm Wu Dalang. Let's not talk about Pan Jinlian or Ximen Qing's fate, just talking about this old woman Wang Po, the Scissors Hell is enough for her.
Third Layer, Iron Tree Hell
All those who, while alive, separate relatives and incite discord among fathers and sons, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives, will after death enter the Iron Tree Hell. The trees are all sharp blades, which pierce through the skin on their backs and hang them from the iron tree. After this is over, they still have to enter the Tongue-Pulling Hell and the Steaming Pot Hell.
The Fourth Layer, Hell of the Wicked Mirror
If one commits a crime in the mortal world, even if they don't confess or try to bribe their way out and deceive heaven and earth, even if they manage to escape punishment (it's better if they don't), there are still fugitives who will spend their whole lives on the run. But eventually, there will come a day when they die. When they arrive at the underworld, they will be thrown into the Mirror of Retribution Hell, where their crimes will be reflected in the mirror. Then, they will be sent to different hells to suffer punishment accordingly.
The Fifth Layer, Steaming Cauldron Hell
There is a kind of person, who in daily life likes to gossip and spread rumors, framing and slandering others. This is what people commonly refer to as a "long-tongued woman". When this type of person dies, they are cast into the Steaming Basket Hell, where they are steamed in a basket. Not only that, after being steamed, cold winds blow by, reforming their body, and they are led into the Tongue-Pulling Hell.
The Sixth Level, Copper Column Hell
Those who commit arson or destroy evidence, revenge, and kill people by fire will be sent to the copper pillar hell after death. The little ghosts strip off your clothes and let you hug a copper pillar tube with a diameter of one meter and a height of two meters. Charcoal is burned inside the tube, and the wind is constantly fanned, making the copper pillar tube red-hot... how does it feel? Have you seen "The Legend of Deification"? Su Daji's cannon roast? Seeing this, you must have a lingering fear.
The Seventh Layer, Knife Mountain Hell
Desecrating the divine, you may not believe it, but you can't desecrate others; killing livestock, don't mention murder, just say you killed cows, horses, cats, and dogs in your past life, because they are also lives, perhaps their previous lives were humans or maybe even yours... Because the underworld is different from the world of the living, there is no distinction between high and low, noble and humble, cows, horses, cats, dogs, and humans, all are called living spirits. Those who commit either of these two sins will be sent to the Knife Mountain Hell after death, stripped of their clothes, and forced to climb up the Knife Mountain naked... Depending on the severity of their crimes, they may "reside" at the top of the Knife Mountain.
Eighth Layer, Iceberg Hell
All women who harm their husbands, commit adultery, and have abortions with malice shall be cast into the Ice Mountain Hell after death. Strip them of their clothes and send them to climb the ice mountain. Another group includes those who are addicted to gambling, disobedient to parents, and unrighteous; they too will be sent to climb the ice mountain. Pan Jinlian is definitely among them!
The Ninth Level, The Cauldron Hell
Prostitution and debauchery, theft and robbery, bullying the good and weak, kidnapping women and children, falsely accusing and slandering others, plotting to seize others' property... Those who commit such crimes will be thrown into the Oil Cauldron Hell after death, stripped of their clothes and tossed into a hot oil cauldron for deep-frying. Sizzle, sizzle! The number of times they are fried depends on the severity of their crimes... Sometimes, those with grave sins have just emerged from the Ice Mountain Hell when they are escorted by little demons to the Oil Cauldron Hell for further warming up...
This is the upper nine layers, that is, the Eastern Hell. Although it's called Fa and Tongdu are slightly different, it can be seen how many hells there are, and it's not a mistake made by Dong. The lower nine layers of the Western Hell in "Shuǐ Lù Quán Tú" are even more cruel...
What people usually refer to as the eighteen layers of hell, the number is correct, but the meaning may not be understood. The "Eighteen Mudra Sutra" explains the differences between these eighteen layers, mainly not in terms of spatial up and down, but in terms of time and penal law, especially in terms of time.
If compared to the time in the mortal world, the first layer of hell is equivalent to 3,750 years as one year, and the living beings here must live for 10,000 years. They can't die a day early, and these 10,000 years are equivalent to 13.5 billion years in the mortal world. Due to the doubling of time and lifespan in hell, by the 18th layer of hell, the unit of time is already in billions of billions of years. Such a long period of punishment can be said to be truly "ten thousand kalpas without rebirth". The painful and cruel scenes are difficult for people to imagine and understand.
The Tenth Level, Ox Gorge Hell
This is a hell for the dead to lodge complaints. All those who, while alive, wantonly killed animals and established their happiness on the suffering of these creatures will be sent here after death. Once thrown into the pit, several wild oxen will come charging, with horns butting and hooves trampling... According to other records, there is also a hell called "Knife Blade Hell", which is not among the eighteen hells listed here, and will be supplemented later.
Eleventh level, Stone-pressing Hell
If a person in the world gives birth to an infant, regardless of the reason, such as if the infant is born stupid or disabled; or because of heavy male and light female reasons, drowning the infant, abandoning it. This kind of person after death will be pressed into the stone pressure hell. It is a square-shaped large stone pool (slot), with a rope suspending a giant stone of the same size as it above, putting the person in the pool, using an axe to cut off the rope...
The Twelfth Level, Pestle Mortar Hell
This prison is quite strange. When people are alive, if they waste food and trample on the five grains, for example, throwing away leftover food from a banquet or eating something they don't like and then discarding it, after death they will be thrown into the Mortar Mill Hell and ground to death in the mortar. What's even stranger is that if you talk while eating, especially using dirty language, profanity, or insults, after death you will also be thrown into the Mortar Mill Hell to suffer punishment. So I'm reminding everyone: when eating, it's best not to speak, especially not to use insults.
The Thirteenth Level, Blood Pool Hell
All those who do not respect others, are unfilial to their parents, and are dishonest, will be cast into the Blood Pool Hell after death. Those who suffer in the Blood Pool. I don't quite understand it either, here it says that all those who die from difficult childbirth, vomiting blood, bleeding to death (dying upon seeing red) will also be cast into the Blood Pool to suffer.
The Fourteenth Level, The Hell of Wrongful Death
It's not easy to be born into this world as a human, it's an opportunity given by the King of Hell. If you don't cherish it and commit suicide, such as cutting your wrists, poisoning yourself, or hanging yourself, you will infuriate the King of Hell and be thrown into the prison for those who died unjustly after death. Then you can forget about being human again. I advise people in this world that no matter how difficult things get, they must struggle to live on, as suicide is a sign of weakness. Especially those foolish young lovers who die for love.
The Fifteenth Level, the Hell of Crushing
It's not common now, but the crime is very serious. Those who dig graves will be sent to the hell of lingchi after death and receive lingchi punishment.
The coldest layer of hell, volcanic hell
This level is relatively broad, corrupt and greedy, bribery and corruption, theft and robbery, arsonists, after death will be thrown into the fire mountain hell. Being driven into the fire mountain to burn alive without dying. There are also monks and Taoist priests who have broken their vows, who are also driven into the fire mountain. (This level should be overcrowded.)
The Seventeenth Level, Stone Mill Hell
Those who trample on the five grains, thieves, corrupt officials and oppressors of the common people will be sent to the Stone Mill Hell after death. They will be ground into meat sauce. After being remade into human form, they will be ground again! Also, monks and Taoist priests who eat meat will meet the same fate.
The Eighteenth Level, The Hell of Knives and Saws
Those who deceive their superiors and subordinates, cheat women and children, engage in unfair trade, will be sent to the hell of sawing after death. Strip the clothes of the incoming person, tie them up in a "big" shape on four wooden stakes, from the crotch to the head, and saw them to death.
Longer detention time is even more frightening
The Eighteen Hells are arranged according to the length of time spent suffering and the severity of the crime. If we consider the shortest time as one day in hell, it is equivalent to 3,750 years in the human world. Thirty days make a month, twelve months make a year, and after passing through 10,000 years, which is equivalent to 135 billion years in the human world, one's life in hell comes to an end and they are released from prison. Each subsequent hell increases the suffering by twenty times and the lifespan by one time. By the eighteenth hell, the suffering is beyond description, and it is also impossible to calculate the date of release.
