Chapter Eighteen

Corviknight, Sherry's partner and first Pokémon is quite the massive bird donned in metal armor like plates. Size wise I could easily fit in his mouth, while not exactly a pleasant thing to think about it is just a fact. I have many questions to see just what kind of 'knight' they happen to be, considering it is in the species name.

I rest inside Nora's home on the windowsill to the back yard where Zinnia and Belladonna are. The two of them are doing their drills that I had assigned them. I am still on light duty for another day or so just to be safe. That and Nora starts to get anxious when I'm not in the same room or within her field of vision. Corviknight is in the back yard watching my teammates toil away only for his eyes to land on me and narrow. He must have felt my eyes on him.

"You have been staring quite a bit rat. What is it that you want? Spit it out, I don't have all day." The metal avian wasn't all together pleased by my observations. If I was being honest, I don't think he's all that happy that Zinnia, Bella, and I are here at all.

"I have never seen an avian of your stature before. I apologize if my observation and interest is disturbing you." I say with a slight dip of my head. "You keep your armor in great shape as well. I can only guess how much work you put into keeping it in such great condition." I stare up into the crimson eyes of the Corviknight who stares back down at me from my spot on the windowsill. The bird adjusted himself a bit tilting his head a bit before turning his head to fully face me. He was quiet for some time, as if he is assessing me more thoroughly now.

"What could you possibly know of armor like mine? No commoner like yourself would be privy to such information."

Ah, he's one of those knights. He's got his beak shoved up his own ass and looks down on others. Using his position to oppress. A knight such as them are problems and why people say chivalry is dead. Perhaps a few words will be enough to get him to at least be less abrasive.

"I know that in order to keep that armor nice and neat it takes time and dedication. Any good knight knows that their armor is key to their survival. Should you treat your armor like an extension of yourself and you'll live long on the battlefield. Yours has seen combat. There is spots where it has been dented and fixed, dulled and sharpened. The imperfections can be seen by experienced eyes, but it is clear that the armor worn by you is a matter of pride. A symbol of your status knight." I might not like his type but he at the least maintains his armor as he should.

I glance to Zinnia and when our eyes meet, I give them a subtle glare. They got the hint and kept running their suicides. Returning my attention to the giant metal bird his feathers were slightly puffed up, but he wasn't glaring anymore. It was progress at least. Perhaps I could get some information out of him later should he attempt to converse without being insulting. That would likely be at a later time however. I could hear Nora approaching and she takes priority.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

[They are hard at work aren't they?]

Nora's voice was quiet as she ran her hand over my back. I nodded to answer before turning my head to look at her. She was looking at them with an expression I couldn't place. She picked me up holding me like a stuffed toy as was familiar to me by this point.

[I was really scared when you disappeared. I know that you wouldn't have run off, but you're my first real friend here.]

Nora let out what could be described as a sigh sitting in the spot I was in. I was content to allow her to vent. It was something I had done countless times before. I couldn't offer advice like I used to, but sometimes all one needs is someone to listen.

[Officer Jenny tried to get me to sign some paperwork involving you. Mom told me not to sign anything cause I am a Galarian citizen more than a Kantonian. Because of that I don't fall under their rules as much as a Kantonian trainer does. If I signed and you became a Subjugator Pokémon they could call on you and take you away for an indefinite amount of time. They might even have never given you back because they would have had the right to do so.]

I felt aggravation roil inside me for a moment but I shook off the feeling rather quickly. Gods, this region was a shit-hole. Can't handle their own problems so they take partners away from their actual trainers to solve it and determine not to give them back? I wonder just how deep such actions go, but unless they decide to target me or mine again I can ignore it. Nora is what matters.

We sat in silence for a few minutes before Zinnia and Bella began to spar. There was no actual moves done it was more physical techniques than actual moves using actual energy. Bella was using her body like a whip letting her tail lash out at Zinnia. And Zinnia was using her leaf to parry way her strokes the best she can.

[I'll be ready next time. We should ask Nurse Joy here in Pewter on how to get a Chansey. That way we won't have to rely on a Pokémon Center as much. It would be a good idea to get Zinnia and Belladonna checked after their little scuffle over there. See if they have any issues I don't know about. Maybe some dietary information for them specifically.]

I let out a soft sound letting Nora know I was still listening. It seemed like a good idea. Having a team member capable of helping with injuries would be wise. Should one have been on hand, I wouldn't have been in such terrible shape after Raticate and their little lackeys. Hopefully Zinnia and Belladonna will be up to speed soon that way should we end up in a situation like that again we can fight together.

[Hey you two, that's enough training for today. Come on inside and get ready for dinner. We got a long day for us tomorrow. Maybe we will go challenge Gym Leader Brock after a check up at the Pokémon Center.]

Depending on how Nora wants to play this I will likely be sidelined for this upcoming battle. I suppose there is nothing to be done about it however. Zinnia and Belladonna will need the experience should they wish to progress more than I do at the moment. I look forward to seeing them fighting. It will be good to see what kind of regimen they will need to progress. Where they succeed and where they fail. I don't train up substandard knights. Although, Belladonna seems like more of a court advisor than a combatant. It would still be beneficial for her to be versed in combat even if it's just to watch over Nora would I be required to battle instead.

Tomorrow, I will see just what a Gym Leader is made of. I can't wait.
