...When The Time Comes

"Are you saying he's the Oracle of Light, Archbishop?" George's tone turned cold.

Alex's didn't have the slightest clue about what they were talking about, but judging by George and Maya's expression, it was anything but good for him.

"I can't be sure yet, but I've had my suspicion from long before." Replied the old priest, not shying from meeting George's eyes.

"Then that's it. Nothing is set in stone yet."

"But we can have the pope be the judge of it. I can send a word to him and take care of all the preparation."

"Excuse me, Archbishop Walter, but there's no need for that. My son is still weak for the journey to the Holy City."

"I understand your concern, Duke Dawson, but rest assured because I'll be there to check on Alexander. It'll be my utmost priority to keep him safe and sound."

  "Archbishop Walter..." George squinted.

"Surely you realize the gravity of this situation if Alexander really turns out to be--"

  "Archbishop!"

George raised his voice, cutting the old priest. His eyes were shimmering with anger.

Maya, with a saddened look, took her husband's hands to calm him down.

George took that brief pause to poise himself, taking a deep breath before facing the old priest once again.

"I'm sorry for my conduct, Archbishop, it was rude of me."

The priest shook his head dejectedly, sighing.

"I will be lying if I tell you I understand how you feel, George, but I must do this. We are lost without her and the Pope... The whole world knows it won't be long now, especially them. We don't have much time, and when he can no longer protect us, it will be too late to do anything at that point." Walter put on his hand on George's shoulder and spoke softly.

  George grimaced in response.

"I understand. But not now. His body wouldn't be able to handle the teleportation. The journey by land would take at least months by carriage if we want to pace ourselves for Alex's health. Not to mention the danger that lurks when we're out in the open. It's too risky, and I can't have that."

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

The two came to an impasse, but it didn't last long before Walter offered a solution to their predicament.

"Then let's do this. I'll first report to the Pope and have his insight about this situation. And if he does agree with my speculation, then I will do my best to at least give you some time. This, I promise you."

George felt bitter inside, but he also knew that was indeed more than what he could hope for. If it was another person from the Church of Light, Alexander wouldn't be able to get such treatment.

"Thank you, Archbishop." Expressed George, surging with complicated feelings.

Meanwhile, watching all of this unfold in silence, was the boy who was at the center of it all, Alexander.

An Oracle, huh? Well, they weren't wrong, I guess. God did give me these powers to save the world, after all. I wonder if they know of the coming crisis? I need to find out about it later when I can...

On a side note, how does this old man find out about me? Is it me using light magic? But, he himself can use light magic, so even if it is rare, it shouldn't be the reason I got found out. No, there must be something else. Something that I missed.

I need more and more information, and the current ones I have are about the future and are in pieces at best.

As Alex was stuck in his own thinking, the conversation between the adults wrapped up, and soon with the old butler, Byron, leading the way, the exited the room, leaving only Alex's sister Alyson, and the blond maid, Hannah on the room.

"Don't be scared, Alex. You won't be going anywhere. I promise." Said Alyson, patting Alex's head.

I'm not going anywhere, though... Alex blinked blankly.

"If they come here, I'll send them bastards packing, back to their hole."

"Lady Alyson, please mind your language." Reprimand Hannah gently.

Alyson didn't take it well, bitting her lips in frustration.

"Don't tell me you're on their side, Hannah? Are you really okay with them taking Alex away!?"

"That's not it, my lady. I just think your language was unladylike."

And her actions are not? Alex commented inside.

Alyson propped her chin up and said, "Hm. You're right. Mother said, no matter what the situation might be, a lady should be graceful in her conduct."

Dang, there's something wrong with these people.

Imitating how Maya would often cup Alex's cheek, Alyson did the same and tried her best to imitate the motherly voice just like how Maya did.

"Don't worry, your sister will keep you safe, Alex. You have nothing to fear."

Ha... I'm sorry, but I have so many things to fear. Even now...

Though he may think that, Alex closed his eyes and relaxed. He couldn't feel the touch, but strangely enough, it was comforting.

...When the time comes, I will be the one to keep you safe... I promise
