Chapter 95
Suicide Tourism
“Okay, I am calling a team meeting!” I suddenly called out.
I was completely ignored.
Fay and Midna continued their duel. The Riolu was dashing in erratic patterns around a Milotic, avoiding the grand sweeping tails by either jumping over it or ducking underneath it; much to Midna’s annoyance.
I thought Fay was doing a pretty sick job at it; considering how sometimes she dodged the tail just by an inch.
Every time the tail missed and struck the ground, it hit with such tremendous force that it caused a loud explosion of dust every time it hit. Sadly her tail didn’t start to glow, maybe that’ll happen later.
Luna was doing her own shiz, not even sure what she was doing. She just sat down cross-legged. Looking like she was trying to burn a hole into the sky. Maybe she was.
I coughed and repeated myself, “team meeting.”
“Huh?” Fay stopped moving and turned around.
“Ha!” Midna’s tail lashed out at the distracted Riolu. Before the tail collided, however, Fay’s fur became enveloped by a multicolour glow.
The hit connected, but a supernatural force returned all the built-up energy. An invisible hand slapped Midna back and was propelled backwards with a bright flash. She skidded against a tree where her appearance turned back into a Zorua.
“Ha!” Fay cried out triumphantly. She then noticed Midna’s whimpering form.
“Aah, I’m sorry!” Fay hurried over to the pile of fluff, a concerned look present on the RIolu’s face.
“By the gods, I think I broke a bone!” Midna cried dramatically.
Fay turned around to give me a worried look. “Dust, you have a band-aid?”
What would a band-aid do? Besides that, I didn’t have any potions. Now that I think about it, I should buy some first aid stuff when I reach Eterna City. It was expensive but I had money to spare.
Fay was still looking at me, as if expecting me to heal her magically with just my voice.
“Fay, you might want to take a step away from her.” I calmly advised her.
“Wh-”
Midna’s form glowed white and changed shape. The Zorua was replaced by a Tsareena. Before Fay could close her mouth Midna gave her an explosive kick.
“Got you!” Midna called loudly.
The hit wasn’t that hard, which meant that Fay barely took any damage and that Midna needed to work on her kick techniques.
Fay got up, looking more annoyed than injured. “Seriously! I thought I had hurt you.”
“Pffft,” Midna’s form shrank, “that’s hilarious, you hurting me?”
“You do know you are the weakest member of the team right?”
Midna shut up.
{Correct.} Luna chimed in, making Midna look more miserable than before.
Deciding to spare her, I coughed again. “Team Meeting.”
This got their attention.
“What do you want to discuss?” Fay asked, dropping her issue with Midna.
“Well,” I smiled. “Since you asked so kindly. Remember what I told you about Alamos Town?”
“Yes,” Fay said.
{I do.} Luna nodded.
“No,” Midna said, taking pleasure in being weird again.
“We get to be knights!” Fay explained to Midna.
{And there’s food.} Luna excitedly shared, blushing heavily.
Midna’s ears moved. “Well, that explains nothing.”
“Ugh, there is this annual Sinnoh Knight Festival in Alamos Town I want to go to after beating Gardenia’s Gym.”
Yeah. it wasn’t ‘if’ but ‘when’ I beat her Gym. I figured that after all the mayhem I went through, one tree hugger wouldn’t give me too much trouble.
“Sounds fun?” Midna said hesitantly. “But what’s a festival?”
I raised an eyebrow. “How do you not k- oh yeah, well you like playing games, standing in line and having food?”
The Zorua nodded.
“Well then, you will like this Festival as well.” I smiled devilishly. “Also, there will be a theme for the entire event, a tournament for the title of Knight and a local destruction of space, time and possibly reality.”
“A what!?” Fay jumped up.
A tree twig snapped behind Luna’s back. Her eyes flared and I thought she would perk up as well but she managed to remain calm, though through great effort.
{There will be what?} Luna tried to keep her telepathic voice steady.
“A theme.” I pretended not to understand. “Knights and fairy tales, or something. I think. Whatever.” I shrugged.
{You said a local destruction of space-time!}
I faked being surprised. “Oh yeah, that’s the thing I wanted to talk about. Two Legendaries are going to have a pissing contest during the festival and their fight will shred the structure of space and time surrounding that place. Oh, and there will be fireworks, did I mention that?”
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Man, I love dropping bombs like that.
“Hold on, legendary class Pokémon?” Midna asked.
“That’s so cool!” Fay sighed in awe. Midna gave her a dirty look.
{No, not cool!} Luna scowled. {They’re dangerous.} The Kirlia turned to look at me. {Dust, you cannot go there. It won’t be safe!}
“Actually, there’s a decent chance it will all end up fine.”
“How do you know that?”
I tapped my head. “I told you that I just know random stuff about this world. Well, the Legendaries will be a Deus Ex Machina and everything will be fine.” Most likely.
{Too risky.} Luna decided. {We can’t trust everything to fix itself.}
“Maybe you should warn the police, or the League?” Fay offered.
I had considered dropping an anonymous hint to the League so they could deal with it but I realized that most likely wouldn’t work. In the movie their pissing contest wasn’t caused by anything happening in our realm, thus the League can’t really prevent it from happening.
Unless things play out differently they would only be cannon fodder and disturb the original timeline of events.
Wait.
I groaned and clutched my head in my hands.
Of course. Things always play out differently right? So far nothing has gone according to either script or plan. No reason to assume that everything would happen just like in the movie. Hell, in the movie there’s not even a Festival.
God freaking dammit.
{Something wrong?} Luna asked.
“I just realized something stupid, I might have overlooked something important.”
“Wow, the sky is blue today!” Midna snarked. “What else is new?”
“Wasn’t the sky blue already?” Fay naively questioned before shaking her head.
“No, look, maybe I am completely wrong and the Legendaries won’t show up at all. Or they will show up and cause more damage.” I paused to think. "I assumed that going to Alamos would be safe if I just stuck to what the visions told me but when has anything ever gone according to plan?"
{Escaping the hospital?} Luna offered.
"That wasn't planned, or at least not by me."
"What about-" Fay made a face. "Never mind, that explosion wasn't planned."
Midna frowned. "Hold on, you still haven't told us which ones will make an appearance!”
{That doesn't matter!} Luna faced Midna, an almost angry-looking expression on her. {Legendary Pokémon means danger. We should avoid them.}
"Hold on, maybe the Legendaries will be friendly," Fay suggested. "It would be… wrong to assume that they're evil..."
She must have seen the incredulous looks on her teammate's faces because she turned to me for help. "Right Dust?"
I considered the question. "Fay is right that you shouldn't judge someone without knowing the full story." Luna gave me an exasperated look. "Although there are Legendaries I would love to ride and give free hugs, these two aren't on that list."
Fay sulked while Luna smiled triumphantly.
"So, which ones will be present?" Midna asked again.
I shrugged. "Just Dialga and Palkia, the Pokémon responsible for space and time."
Fay looked awed while the other two gave me the are-you-crazy look.
"You are definitely fucking with me," Midna slowly muttered.
I grimaced. "I know right, scary coincidence, eh?"
"Coincidence?" Midna scowled. "I was literally designed to take these two on a fight, and you casually walk into my life telling me I'm about to encounter them very soon?"
Technically, Midna wasn't designed to specifically counter those two. She was more akin to a prototype scale model, made to see what would happen if you combine DNA. Unless she knows something I don't.
"I already told you, Fate is definitely screwing with us, you'll get used to it."
{See, reason to stay out of this.} Luna folded her arms.
"But we faced other problems and came out on top." Fay halfheartedly tried.
{Those were either humans or Pokémon like us we could kill if necessary.} She let out a reluctant grimace. {None of us can match a Legendary.}
Hold on! That's why Luna was okay with all the shiz we came across until now? Because she was convinced she could kill any threat… Damn. I really need to take some time to spend with her alone. She was growing much faster than I had anticipated, not that I planned much.
I rubbed my eyes, that would be a problem for later.
"I bet I can take on a Legendary," Midna proudly claimed. "I was born for that!"
{Regardless, if these space and time Pokémon are that dangerous, why bother meddling?}
"Because… we would miss the festival," Fay muttered.
"Well, I could decide not to go," I said, the Kirlia nodded eagerly. "But not going could have disastrous consequences."
Fay opened her mouth but I gestured to her to wait.
"For one, the butterfly effect may have altered the chain of events and for all I know, me taking a shit may cause the entire town to die."
Midna chuckled.
"So reason one is responsibility. Second reason is that they are the gods of space and time. And there's a chance they know how I got here."
Luna looked uncomfortable. {If they brought you here, wouldn't they be able to take you away?}
"Yes. I don't desire that outcome per se, but it would be useful to know if they could."
And if they could, maybe I could strike up a deal and ask for some items to be sent back and forth between universes. A letter to my parents would be required, oh and maybe a hard drive filled with books, games and the entire content of wikipedia, or something.
Besides that, just knowing who fucked up and got me here would be a blessing.
"As for the third reason, that's simple. I feel like being able to watch Dialga and Palkia fight would be a sight to die for."
"I agree," Midna said, much to the dismay of Luna.
"So, those are my thoughts on the matter. I don't want you all to go in without knowing the full story since we are a team and all. I think we should put it to a vote." Nobody spoke up, which I took as an agreement.
"So, the choice is between suicide tourism which would be totally not safe but hella cool or stay the hell away and do the reasonable thing."
"I'm in," Midna smirked. "What's the point of freedom if you spent your time hiding?"
Luna scoffed. {What good is freedom if you are dead?}
"Actually, I really want to go to the festival." Fay hesitated. "I like the idea of seeing a Legendary as well and in your vision everything ended up fine." Fay shrugged.
"Kirlia," Luna said accusingly. No idea what it meant but Midna whistled, clearly impressed.
Fay's expression remained neutral. "I can protect Dust if things go wrong."
{I vote against this proposal,} Luna sneered. {Unlike you two I don't think about myself and instead consider the bigger picture. We just agreed to protect Dust and now we decide to go to a dangerous event.} Luna paused, talking telepathically must have cost a lot of energy. She was out of breath. {Taking down criminals is fun, same for monsters. But we can not match a single Legendary, let alone two legendaries.} Luna folded her hands and stayed silent. I guess if she had a mic she would drop it.
Three pairs of eyes pointed towards me. All red, kinda scary.
"I vote," I gave Luna an apologetic look. "To go, despite the fact it's dangerous, I think the pros outweigh the cons. Besides, If I don't go, it will keep bugging me." I sighed, half happy, half scared. However, my fear was concealed by my excitement.
{Amazing.} Luna spat. {And here I thought we would be reasonable about the future.}
"We were reasonable, we talked about it and we voted." I argued.
"Someone is just pissed she lost." Midna teased, nibbing Luna in the side.
{AAARGH} Luna looked like she was struggling to find her words. {Fine, let's all have fun!}
She teleported away, effectively closing the discussion.
"...Okay?" Fay looked confused.
Midna didn't seem to be bothered at all.
I myself was split. Luna did have a point but if she was right or not could only be determined in hindsight.
I would need to re-evaluate my plans for the festival. I can't really rely on Ash performing a miracle, I would have to look into that. I wasn't planning on flying blindly either.
Another thing I had to do was to sit down with Luna and try to reconnect. She was starting to act like she hit puberty or something similar.
Guess I'll have to take it one step at a time with this.
Also, I'm pretty sure there is something that Luna wasn't telling me. She was acting pretty big but right before she teleported I saw her expression.
Luna looked truly terrified.
A/N So as most (or not) of you know this story is also on Fanfiction.net, but in a less refined and well edited state. I am working slowly through the chapters and making all the stuff flow a bit better and fixing minor typos and such.
But I am not used to Royal Road rules and social norms and whatnot, so I don't know how Omakes work? On ff.net they're a seperate fic because the site itself has barely any rules for that but I don't know what to do with these on Royal Road (and I would like the entire story and all its parts to be available here). So what do?
Anyway, while I ponder and wonder, I'll see you soon again.
Take it easy an take a rest. But don't you fall asleep, after all. There's a whole insane world of Pokémon waiting for us.
