Wang's thoughts on alleviating official-people confrontation and saving the political ecology
For 30 years, China's economy has been progressing, which is undeniable; however, for 30 years, China's social ecology has been deteriorating day by day. This is very depressing.
Internally, it is the deterioration of the antagonistic sentiment between officials and civilians. Externally, it is increasingly at odds with the international community. This article mainly discusses the former.
This is a crazy society. The bureaucrats are corrupt and greedy, that's nothing new; while the common people aren't idle either, they're always looking for opportunities to get something, if not, they'll take revenge on society. For example, a certain company boss once sighed to me, nowadays people are really bad, our employees often intentionally leave lights and faucets on just to harm us.
How did our country fall to this point?
The downfall of bureaucrats is due to systemic problems. A wicked system will make good people turn bad when they become officials, and no one can escape.
The downfall of the common people is due to their mentality. Seeing corrupt officials being so arrogant and unscrupulous, the common people's mentality has been completely ruined. They are powerless to change the system, so they start from where they can, stealing a little if they can, destroying a bit if they can, seeking psychological balance.
I have always touted the 1980s as a golden age, because at that time, people from all over the country saw hope. In fact, in the 1980s, various social ills in China were more serious than they are now, such as the suppression of private enterprises at that time far exceeded the present; the problems with various laws and regulations at that time were much more absurd than they are now; there was no internet at that time, and it was difficult for ordinary people to express their opinions.
Why did it end up like this? I personally think there are several reasons:
1. After 30 years of reform and opening up, the direction in the later period has deviated seriously. In the early stage of reform and opening up, Xiaoping made ordinary people rich and won their hearts; in the later stage of reform and opening up, tax reform led to government wealth and national poverty.
2. High housing prices have swallowed up the achievements of 30 years of reform and opening-up, leading to widespread discontent among the people. On one hand, officials are desperately driving up housing prices, while on the other hand, they are forcibly demolishing homes, leaving residents homeless.
3. After China joined the WTO, relying on the three magic weapons of "cheap labor, cheap mineral resources, and environmental destruction", China's economy showed false prosperity. The fake "GDP growth" led the Chinese government and people to fall into an inexplicable "successful joy". With a per capita GDP ranking after 100th in the world and the lowest proportion of civilian investment in GDP in the world, it is actually indulging in the fantasy of "the rise of a great power" and "China can say no". We have completely lost the "crisis awareness" of the early 1980s. Such a China has no hope at all.
I haven't seen any of the powers that be showing awareness that "the Chinese nation has reached its most dangerous moment". They are still pretending to have confidence, pretending everything is fine. In fact, they understand better than anyone else that China has already entered a dead end.
It's possible to get out of this predicament, it depends on how the authorities respond. I think we can start by "easing the standoff between officials and civilians".
The government should humbly accept public supervision; take tolerant rather than repressive measures towards the Internet, allowing people to have an outlet for emotional release...
All levels of officials are elected by the people as soon as possible. If an elected official is corrupt, then the people must reflect on their own responsibility and correct it in the next election.
Everyone knows that democracy is not omnipotent, and democracy is just the least bad system. Democracy has a self-correcting function.
Do not think that allowing the people to elect officials is a favor granted to them. Firstly, this is a right bestowed by God. Secondly, when the people gain the right to vote, they also take on responsibility.
Originally, I thought that if the government made a commitment to the whole society to reduce taxes and housing prices, it could alleviate the current tension between officials and civilians. However, let's think about it, the power of government officials does not come from the authorization of the people, why should they consider reducing taxes and housing prices for the people? It must be known that officials are the biggest beneficiaries of high taxes and high housing prices.
The solution to the problem ultimately returns to that old topic: elections. Not at all fresh, nor any Chinese characteristics. But it is the most basic social science common sense. Long ago we realized that without political reform, China would inevitably limp and not go far. But why are they always afraid to come out and face this issue directly?
Hiding is futile. In today's China, the entire society has split into two opposing camps, with a comprehensive confrontation. The situation has reached this point, how much longer can you hide? Yang+ killed 6 police officers and yet received applause from many netizens, isn't that shocking enough? The common people are angrily cursing, saying "not one of them would be wrongly executed" - isn't that frightening enough for you?
I am willing to believe that my party's Scientific Outlook on Development has a magical solution to solve problems.
