Chapter 49

Quill sat perched on his new and improved crow's nest above the train tracks waiting for the white cursed sin to show its ugly self. Of course he said the crows nest was new and improved but really all he did was make sure the damn thing didn't swing with every movement of his along with making the platform he was perched on a little wider. It was a lot sturdier basically, which really shouldn't have made that much of a difference in his mind but it did and that's all that mattered.

He licked his dry lips as he heard the familiar sound of scraping and shuffling coming from within the metro tunnels. This was a moment of truth. He didn't start sending out his little strings to wrap around and sever the arms as he had before because he only had one chance to do a proper “Surprise Attack!” and wanted that blow to be as damaging as possible. The severing of the arms, while useful, didn’t really seem all that lethal to the cursed sin.

Eventually the worm made its appearance and Quill had to bite down on his lip as the familiar fear from the monster's aura washed over him. He was getting used to dealing with it but that didn’t mean he liked it in the slightest.

It began to pat around the platform in search for potential food which was when Quill began his manifestation. Another reason why he didn't want to do the string was while it might not have been as complex or as big as his Beyblade, he needed a lot of focus to put as much power as he could into having the strings cut the arms off and he needed all of his focus right now for his new manifestation. So slowly but surely he manifested a piledriver right above the unassuming cursed sin.

With no reason to hold off outside of simple hesitation, he launched his pile driver down into the worm with a very powerful meaty thunk. The wretched creature let out a shriek of agonizing pain and began to thrash around, its arms flailing about without reason hitting the walls and floors.

He wasn’t sure how much his “Surprise Attack!” skill did to the monster but it clearly wasn't enough to kill it though he hadn't expected it to be. This was why he needed to move quickly before the cursed sin could retaliate.

Keeping his pile driver impaled into the cursed sin he allowed the pike to become hollow and he took out a large bag filled with rat bombs. Both she and him had brainstormed on better methods of trying to deliver the bombs inside the cursed sin without it eating them and this was the best they could come up with. While it was only half as many bombs as he had used with the first cursed sin since he needed to conserve them for all 5 of the creatures. He hoped with the addition of the pile driver wound that it would be enough to kill or at least severely cripple the monster.

Lighting several of the bombs at the top of the bag he threw it into the hollowed out pike as it fell down into the worm's guts. Quickly dissipating the pike once it had delivered its package but he made sure to cover the gaping wound from the pile driver with a plug manifestation and only the faintest bit of string attached in hopes of Maximum damage through pressure and rupturing.

It was at that moment that the cursed sin seemed to have realized where its attacker was as a clawed hand swooped up and Quill had to quickly jump off of his crow's nest just as a bony fist smashed into where he had once been.

He awkwardly skittered/ran down the wall almost like a goat as three more fists tried to crush him into a meaty paste. He knew the bombs didn't take long to go off but when you have fists the size of your body trying to squish you, it sure felt like a long time.

Finally, after narrowly avoiding the fourth fist and jumping on to the platform itself he heard a muffled boom and the worm's entire body bloated briefly before rupturing. Several parts of its skin exploded outward with disgusting goo that was the creature's blood.

Sadly the cursed sin wasn't down for the count, because obviously it couldn't have been that easy. But it was very clearly hurt which he would take. It let out a ragged gurgling breath as one of the hands moved towards Quill.

The movement was slower and held far less power as Quill stepped to the side, easily dodging it and manifested his pizza cutter. With a quick swing he sliced through the whole hand before dissipating the manifestation.

He was going to need to conserve how much he used the manifestation now. The pile driver was already difficult. But keeping that plug upon its wound closed when the bombs went off added to the strain and he could feel the normal body exhaustion that came with overusing his skill. His mind was only a little cloudy thankfully which he attributed to his trait providing a major boost.

After severing the hand, the sin let out another gurgled shriek, and soon more hands came at him while Quill charged in. Using various axes, swords and anything with a sharp edge that he had collected within his storage ring to chop and bite into fingers and hands.

Thankfully every blow from the monster was weak and poorly coordinated which allowed him to easily maneuver through the danger as he jumped onto the cursed sins back and made his way towards the gaping hole he left thanks to his pile driver. Making sure to hack away at some of the bases of the arms if he had a chance.

This was another reason why he did what he did, easy access to the monster's insides without having to worry about teeth. He had noticed in his first fight with the first cursed sin that it had fairly thick blubber to the point that he would have trouble doing any real damage without something big penetrating deep inside it.

  “ That's what she said.”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Not the time!” Her sudden comment threw him off and he barely managed to dodge a hand that tried to grab him while diving into the monster's wound.

Once he was within its guts he quickly manifested his pizza cutter and his rat tail before carving his way through anything that looked like it hadn’t been damaged or hurt from the bombs exploding.

The monster's digestive acids still stung but they were manageable and he easily managed to fight off and deflect one of the hands that tried to follow him inside the wound. It was only a matter of time before he would kill the cursed sin.

The worm apparently knew that too which was why wasn't expecting it to suddenly jam one of its own hands through itself when he was right next to one of the monsters walls. The thing then gripped Quill before yanking him out of the monster's insides and flung him hard into one of the stone walls.

He barely had time to manifest a force field around him to absorb the blow but sadly didn't have enough time to strengthen said field as it soon shattered, causing him to smash into the wall and fall to the ground. His vision spun for a brief second before his survival instincts kicked in and he threw himself to the side barely dodging another hand trying to crush him.

He let out a snarl, ignoring the pain and agony he was in as he quickly charged the cursed sin, dodging as many blows as possible and jumping back into the wound that was made from the cursed sin when it grabbed him. Making sure to have his manifestations sprout blades along his body as he dove into the wound to cut it up as much as possible.

The cursed sin tried to follow him again by stabbing itself with its hands to get at him once more but this time he was ready and quickly sliced them apart. Doing as much damage as possible before finally the whole creature shuddered and seemed to deflate as a notification flashed in front of him

You have killed a cursed sin (larva) level 1. experience gained

  you have reached level 28

  you have reached level 29

Pseudo energy manifestation has reached level 6

The cursed sin of gluttony must find a new host and you have been selected. Congratulations!

Congratulations! The cursed sin of gluttony has been successfully suppressed.

Congratulations! The cursed sin of gluttony has been successfully purged from your being.

Those last few notifications were very quickly followed by swearing and cursing on her end. Spewing out such vitriol that Quill was thankful no one else could actually hear her as it would have been enough to make a sailor blush.

But also, what the hell! He gained two levels from that?? So that meant the experience that was nullified from the first cursed sin he killed could have potentially given him two maybe even three levels??? This is exactly what he meant by the system being stingy!

He probably would have dropped into his own rant right there if it weren't for the fact that the cursed sin, which he was currently inside of, was starting to turn to dust. This quickly led to a coughing fit on his part as he cut his way out of the being. Spitting out some of the dust that had gotten into his mouth before taking out a health potion and chugging it down. Partially to wash out the taste but also because he was pretty badly hurt.

Nothing life-threatening but he also wasn't going to wait around to recover. Especially when he did have enough health potions that it wasn't really an issue. He was still going to conserve his stamina and Mana potions though but that would likely be quicker to recover anyways so he wasn't worried.

After that he mozied on over to the other side of the wall and sat down, checking the electrical sign that now had a “delayed” written across it. He kind of wondered what would be going through Ssevinac and the rest of the rat kins heads as he slowly changed the rest of the arrival times to “delayed” too. Hopefully it would be one of shock and awe.

“Hey, can I interrupt your ranting for a second.” He spoke out to her

“With A 30 Inch in Diameter Barbed Catheter Right Up His- of course sweetie anything for you, what do you want?” Her tone quickly shifted from Rage induced shrieking to sickly sweet.

He didn't really need to say anything to her; it was mostly just to stop her from yelling inside his head so he could enjoy this brief moment of peace as he watched the cursed sin slowly crumple away into dust.

“Huh. You make a good point. I was so preoccupied by my anger that I couldn't take this proper moment to enjoy watching the filthy, disgusting, vomit inducing, slug slowly turn away into dust thanks to our effort. Thanks you pet, it's the little things in life after all.”

He just shook his head, she knew that wasn't what he meant but it didn't really matter. Instead they both watched in silence as the cursed sin slowly but surely materialized into a giant pile of dust.

“How romantic. you really know how to treat a gal. I can't wait to watch the rest of them turn to dust with you.”

Quill stood up and brushed some of the dust that had gotten on him. “I don't suppose you have a preference on what color I should go after next do you?”

“Nah, but I will suggest you take a little more care in how you go about things. The couple higher levels and the pseudo energy manifestation level up will help a lot. But you were kind of careless at the end there. You should not have been grabbed like that.”

“Yeah, I suppose survival instincts will only take me so far. Though I'd imagine it gets a lot better once that skill leveled up too. Either way, you are right. I shouldn't have been grabbed like that. But In fairness, how was I supposed to know it would willingly stab itself in order to rip me out of it. I mean it's called a cursed sin of gluttony. You'd think it wants to continue to try and digest me even if I was killing it.”

“ Well it was also a level one larva that is pacified so who knows. Either way, take more care.”

“Yes ma'am.” he responded in jest which earned a snicker from her. Either way his original plan worked and it would likely go even smoother now thanks to the level ups. so it should only be a matter of time before he completed this quest and then he should be done with the whole damn thing.
