With The Unexpected

The ocean waves slowly creeped towards the ship before coming to a end when they hit. The view was refreshing as a man leaned on the railing between the deck and outside before looking at the scenery.

The footsteps of his assistant echoes closer as she leaned on the taffrail beside him. Not bothering to notice her, he kept on looking.

he had only been living in Nightlight and planned on living there. However, fate didn't allow them to stay any longer due to a incident of him finding out about the corrupted government. It was a pity, he really liked the place and the restaurant there.

Wandering in his own thoughts before briefly recalling something. He turned his head to Remi with visible interest.

"You're not from here right?" He asked for confirmation.

"Yeah?" She replied, awaiting another question from him.

  "How's it like over there?"

She hesitated for a bit before replying.

"I don't know. I moved out when I was young but I think it was a great place."

As he looked at her responding, she turned around before leaning on her back. However as she started to look at deck, her face paled before shaking her head.

Noticing this, Ema nudged her a little with his elbow.

"What's wrong?" He asked with a tone of confusion.

Remi turned to him before caressing her eyes. She shook her head again as she felt a massive headache. It wasn't too bad but it was still enough to make her feel uncomfortable

Noticing Ema looking, she turned back at the horizon before replying.

  "It's nothing."

  He didn't buy it.

"Your face became white as a sheet. It can't be nothing."

She initially became annoyed before suppressing the feeling.

"I'm just seeing things." She shook her head once again.

"What? You need schizo pills now?" He chuckled.

Listening to his response, she sighed.

"Don't make jokes like that again?" She requested.

While she could take a joke or two, most jokes revolving lively hood of people just didn't sit right with her. The one occasion she would allow people joke about that was when the joke was actually funny.

After all, joke takes more effort than putting a few offense words and calling it funny.

The view of the birds flying into the glaring sun was reflected on the deep blue waves below as her headache relaxed at the sight.

A ocean waves were crawling towards the general direction of the ship as sea life dashed through the water as if the water was never there in the first place.

"You wanna know why we left abruptly right?" The silence was quickly broken by Ema's heavy voice.

"Yeah." She replied without turning her head.

A headache was still present so it was best if she didn't move her head that much.

  He took a deep breath.

"We were basically in a chokehold by the government and the cults." He looked around to check for people before resuming.

"If we report the findings to the police, the higher ups would silence us. If we don't report it and just quit, they would know something was wrong and silence us again."

  He paused for a bit.

"You don't know much about these cults right? Since you're new to these experiences."

  She nodded.

Noticing her nod, he followed up.

"There are many cults in this world but almost all of them follow the domains of Versile."

"And most of them do cult thingy to get what they want. And I suspected that the man was a part of the cult in question."

"It doesn't help that I had a case that was similar to the content of the diary." He took a deep breath again.

"In short I wasn't gonna risk my life trying to figure out what happened. My guess is he didn't follow the contract's policy and was killed due to it." He could hear Remi's loud exhale but didn't pay any attention to it.

He was slightly regretful that he had to taint his reputation to run away from the case but since there would be more cases for him to work with at his destination, his mood was slightly lifted.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

"What are you guys talking about?" They both heard an unexpected voice from behind.

Remi turned around instantly, fearing that she might've hear him talk earlier. However, he was relieved after taking a glance at the woman's face. It was someone he knew.

Well, he really didn't know her but he knew her enough to recognize her face.

"Whatcha doing here, Ema?" It was someone she had worked with 2 times due to the similar field of work but they were memorable than most experiences.

Looking down at her waist, he could see a gun strapped to it as usual.

"The same goes for you, Jayden."

She smiled slightly before walking over to the taffrail as she leaned on it.

"I just thought I would move places, you know."

She took a lollipop and put it in her mouth where it move around intensely.

The movement made Ema uncomfortable but it wasn't anything too bad.

"I had to move due threats." He replied to her previous question while making it vague.

He closed his eyes for a few seconds before opening them as if he had something to ask, and he did have something to ask.

"How's Gino? Haven't seen him lately."

She side eyed him and replied.

"I think he's doing well with the members. Last time I saw him, he was doing well against a flesh blob. And of course, he was trying to be extra cool as always." She chuckled talking about him.

"Although, I don't think he was like this when we used to be in the same team." She looked down while reminiscing about the distance past.

"Oh yeah Qil is doing well, I suppose. He got a stable job with a high income."

She talked more excited sharing about her past.

After a few minutes, she realized she got a bit off track and cleared her throat before staying silence.

Smelling the delightful scent in the air, Jayden turned to the ship's dining room.

"I believe it's time to eat." She mumbled.

Just as she was about to walk over, a short woman walked down the stairs and towards the dining room right in front of her.

Her eyes were a bit gloomy as everything about her gave off a depressing feel.

'Some people should take a rest.' She thought, feeling pity for her.

  ***

The lights bloom into the room as liquid dropped from Julo's eyes.

He turned around at the window to see the liquid properly even if he knew the answer.

  It was blood as always.

He had long forgotten about the second reason why he went to the department in the first place.

He thought the dreams had stopped after becoming an Uncoiled but at last it didn't after all. The dream still wasn't different, the only thing that caught his attention was the fact that it was longer than before.

Looking at the horizon, he saw someone from below looking at him as she was paled as a sheet.

However he didn't bother to give any sort of reaction. After all, sane people would only think of it as a hallucinations after the blood disappeared.

He closed the curtain and pressed his hands against his thighs before getting up.

Looking at his clothes, he recalled that he was still disguised as a female.

He was mad that Travestita used permeant makeup but he couldn't complain now. The makeup did save his life.

He got up as he grabbed the gun beside his bed before it in his pocket.

"You here?" He asked, seemingly to no one.

"Your fake voice is better than yesterday. Keep it up." A female voice rang from inside the gun.

The magic gun that suddenly talked would be a surprise to most mundane people but Julo already got surprised once as he smiled slightly.

While he didn't program the AGI to transfer conscience, it seems to have code itself into his gun.

As for how though. He didn't know.

The gun didn't have any advanced technology nor high amounts of storage and RAM but it somehow managed to get around that.

"There's a bounty for you in the underworld. Be careful." Julo nodded before asking question.

  "What should I do now?"

He asked with deep concern. Right now, his life was a mess as he couldn't really get any job with his fake ID unless they were ignorant enough. That he doubted in the place where he was going towards.

"You could get a freelance job. That way you most likely don't have to show your ID."

  He nodded again.

"Maybe you could get revenge on them but I suggest you to get stronger if you want to choose that."

With no concrete goal other than survival, he decided to choose getting stronger as his temporary goal as having no goal was basically the same as walking in a random direction in a forest.

Looking at the time that was 11 am, he walked out of the room to get breakfast or for some people, lunch.

He slightly closed his eyes due to the blinding light ahead before getting used to it.

'I hate the sun.' Complaining about the weather, he looked slightly to the right.

His eyes wide opened as his heart started to pound due to fear. Instinct took over his body as he stopped looking at him and quickly walked to his destination.

"I believe it is time to eat." He became startled as he started to walk faster.

In seconds that felt like eternity, he finally reached the dining room.

He repeatedly took a few heavy breaths as he smelt the pies and fried rices in the air as his heart started to calm down.

'I'm ok now.' He reassured himself.

He dug into his pocket and pressed against the gun before releasing quick burst of Versation in Morse code to stop her from talking.

He quickly took a seat before excitingly ordering loads of food that he haven't eaten before.

Of course, just because he haven't eaten the food doesn't mean Julo will always try it as he ordered a few ordinary meals alongside as well.

After a few minutes later, the food was already in front of him as he smiled slightly before digging into the food.

Taking one bite, the fried rice was 100x better than what he had at home. The vegetables in it was perfect quality that helped the rice itself better than better.

The egg in the middle was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a point where the egg yolk was still a liquid.

He took his table knife before cutting it clean in the middle of the yolk.

The yolk slowly dripped and onto the rest of the fried rice and made for a tasty view.

'This might relieve my hunger just by looking at it!'

Yet just as he was about to take one bite, another thing he ordered arrived. It was a fried whole turkey with BBQ sauce all over it.

Julo felt the saliva form in his mouth as he put a mouthful of the fried rice. Tasting it, he put another and another until there was nothing on the plate.

The soda beside was a bit out of place but Julo couldn't care less as he drank the entire can.

Right before he knew it, the turkey was already gone.

"I wish I had that girl's metabolism" Somebody mumbled. However Julo didn't hear it as he was already in deep thoughts.

He wished it would've lasted longer but wishing couldn't do anything anymore.

Looking at the plates in front of him, he couldn't help but feel guilty. This ship ticket that he used was stolen from someone else.

Although it was due to a emergency, he still felt bad for the person that paid for the ticket.

Thinking about it, his gun suddenly emitted Versation pulses in Morse code.

"Don't worry, they pay back to people that got their ticket stolen." He deciphered.

His mood instantly lifted up as he drank another soda. After all, why feel bad when the people you took it from would get their money back.

Looking at the window on the other side, he smiled for a bit. However, that smile slowly faded as he saw someone with familiar features smiling at him.

He was bounded to forget them but appearing in his view again, he remembered.

A woman with pure sliver hair...The same one he saw at the black market.

The surroundings darken to pitch black as the voice of zero nullified every sound waves.
