Chapter 56: The Threshold of Laws

?Location: The Savage Wilds – Sector F (The Whispering Caves)

Time: Day 2 of the Trial

?The jungle grew darker the deeper they went. The trees here weren't just wood; they were semi-sentient parasites that tried to snag passing prey with thorny vines.

?Aris moved through the undergrowth with practiced ease, his Abyssal Eye filtering out the visual noise.

  ?[Scan Result]

?Target: Crystal-Back Spider (Elite Beast). ?Level: 55 (Core Formation Peak). ?Location: 200 meters North, inside a limestone cave. ?Loot Drop: Spirit Crystal (High Grade), Spider Silk (Rare Material).

?"That's the one," Aris whispered. "It's sitting on top of a natural Ley Line node. If I break through there, the earth energy will mask the celestial disturbance."

?"A spider?" Mo asked, looking at the massive webs stretching between the trees, thick enough to catch a man.

?"Not just a spider," Aris corrected. "A battery. I need that energy."

?They approached the cave entrance. It smelled of rotting meat and ozone.

?"Strategy," Aris commanded. "I go in as bait. 'Han Xiao' stumbles in, looks terrified. The spider attacks. You flank it from the ceiling. Do not use your sword. Use the Shadow-Claw. Rip its spinneret out. If it can't weave, it can't fight."

?Mo nodded and vanished into the shadows, merging with the darkness of the cave roof.

?Aris took a deep breath, ruffled his hair to look messy, and stumbled into the cave light.

?"H-hello?" Aris called out, his voice trembling. "Is anyone here? I think I'm lost..."

  ?HISS.

?From the darkness, eight glowing blue eyes opened. The Crystal-Back Spider descended. It was the size of a carriage, its carapace shimmering with jagged crystals that crackled with electricity.

?It didn't hesitate. It lunged, faster than a mortal eye could follow, its fangs dripping with paralytic venom.

?Aris didn't move. He stared straight into the spider's eyes, and for a split second, the Sovereign's Aura leaked out.

?The spider froze mid-air. Instinctual terror flooded its primitive brain. This wasn't a human. This was a Predator.

  ?SHING.

?Mo dropped from the stalactites like a guillotine. His prosthetic hand, sharpened into a spear-point, drove straight into the spider's rear abdomen.

  ?SCREEECH!

?The beast thrashed, blue blood spraying the walls. It tried to spin around, but Mo was already gone, phasing into the shadows again.

?"Finish it," Aris said coldly, dropping the act.

?He walked forward, raising his hand. The Abyssal Nexus flared in his chest.

  ?[Skill: Entropy Grasp]

?Black tendrils of energy shot from Aris's fingers, wrapping around the wounded spider. The beast shrieked as its life force—its Qi, its blood, its very soul—was forcibly ripped from its body.

?The massive spider withered. Its crystal shell turned grey and crumbled to dust.

?In seconds, only a dry husk remained.

  ?[System Alert]

  [Target Eliminated: Crystal-Back Spider.]

  [XP Gained.]

  [Level 70 (100%) Reached.]

  [Initiating Breakthrough Sequence...]

?Aris sat down immediately in the center of the cave, directly over the Ley Line node.

?"Guard the entrance," Aris ordered Mo. "This will take ten minutes. Kill anything that enters. Do not let them see me."

?"Understood." Mo took up a position at the mouth of the cave, standing like a statue of death.

  ?Inside the Spiritual Plane

  ?Aris closed his eyes.

?The world dissolved into a grid of code and energy.

?[Breakthrough: Mortal Realm -> Middle Realm Adaptation]

[Current Status: Foreign Body (Sector 994 Origin).]

[Objective: Sync Biological Rhythm with Sector 33 Laws.]

?This wasn't just about getting stronger Qi. It was about rewriting his DNA. The Middle Realm had heavier gravity, denser air, and "Laws" that were more rigid. A Mortal body from the lower realms would eventually crumble under the pressure.

?Aris felt his bones breaking and knitting back together instantly. His blood boiled as the impurities of the lower world were burned away.

  ?Pain.

?It felt like being crushed by a hydraulic press.

?"Optimize," Aris gritted out mentally. "System, reroute all pain signals. Focus on the Meridian reconstruction."

  ?[Acknowledged.]

?The violet energy of the Abyss mixed with the natural Qi of the cave. Aris's Nascent Soul—the tiny, golden infant residing in his Dantian—opened its eyes. It grew. It matured.

?The "Infant" dissolved, reforming into a "Spirit Body."

  ?[System Alert: Breakthrough Successful.]

  [Level Up: 71.]

  [Rank: Half-Step Divinity (Initial Stage).]

[New Feature Unlocked: Law Manipulation (Basic).]

  ?Aris opened his eyes.

?The cave looked different. He could see the dust motes floating in the air not just as objects, but as vectors of wind. He could see the stone walls as lattice structures of earth energy.

?He clenched his fist. The air cracked, a sonic boom echoing in the small space.

?"Level 71," Aris exhaled, a cloud of white vapor leaving his lips. "I am no longer a tourist. I am a resident."

?He checked his status. His raw power hadn't just doubled; the quality of his energy had shifted. He could now hurt a Dao Severing expert if he caught them off guard.

?"Master," Mo's voice came from the entrance. It was urgent.

?"Company?" Aris asked, standing up and dusting off his robes.

?"A lot of company," Mo replied.

  ?Outside the Cave

?Feng Yu, the Young Master of the Gale-Blade Clan, stood in the clearing with his hands behind his back. He was smiling.

?Behind him stood twenty cultivators. Not just his lackeys, but mercenaries he had hired inside the dimension.

?"We found the rats," Feng Yu announced, his voice amplified by Qi. "I tracked the energy fluctuation. Someone was advancing in there. Trying to hide, little alchemist?"

?He drew his fan. The razor-feathers glowed with green wind-magic.

?"Come out, Han Xiao! Or do we collapse the cave on top of you?"

  ?Silence.

  ?Then, footsteps.

?Aris walked out of the cave. He looked... tired. His robes were dusty. He was holding his chest, panting slightly.

?"P-please!" Aris cried out, falling to his knees in the mud. "Don't kill us! We... we just found a dead spider! We were hiding!"

?Feng Yu laughed. The sound was cruel and sharp.

  ?"Hiding? In my world?"

?Feng Yu walked forward, kicking Aris in the shoulder. Aris rolled over, cowering.

?"Search them," Feng Yu ordered his men. "Take the servant's mask off. I want to see his ugly face. And strip the alchemist. Let's see if he has any more of those pills."

  ?Three mercenaries stepped forward, grinning.

?Aris looked up from the mud. His face was covered in dirt, masking the expression in his eyes.

?The System Interface flickered in his vision.

  ?[Combat Scenario Initiated]

  [Leader Level: 48.]

  [Win Probability: 100%.]

?"Wait!" Aris shouted, holding up a hand. "I... I have a secret! A treasure! I found it in the cave!"

?Feng Yu raised a hand. "Stop. Let him speak. What treasure?"

?Aris reached into his robe. He pulled out a small, jagged stone. It was glowing with a chaotic, violent red light.

  ?It wasn't a treasure.

?It was a Crimson Burst Pill—one of the unstable ones.

?"I found this," Aris whispered. "It's... really... hot."

  ?He tossed it.

  ?Not at Feng Yu.

?He tossed it into the mouth of the mercenary standing closest to him.

  ?"Eat up."

  Update:

?Level 71 (Half-Step Divinity): The user begins to understand the underlying code of reality (The Laws). Aris can now slightly "edit" the trajectory of attacks or the density of matter, but it costs massive amounts of MP.
