Tutorial (1)

Hello i just cross posted, ill update this until friday so that all sites have the same chapters!!

i Hope you like this story as much i as like writing it!

Discimer: I do not own Bck clover and any other references, they belong to their respective owners

In a room filled with beds, a five-year-old boy opened his eyes to a dull, gray ceiling. This was Asta, an orphan living in the small town of Hage. Feeling the bandages wrapped around his head, he tried to piece together what had happened.

Oh yeah, some guy tried to attack Yuno, and then... Asta's thoughts trailed off into a bnk fog.

His confusion quickly turned to shock when he noticed something shimmering in the air. Floating directly in front of him was a translucent blue rectangle.

  [Welcome]

Asta stared at the floating screen for a heartbeat before a realization struck him. He let out a jubint shout that echoed through the entire room:

  "Finally! I got my magic!"

He began jumping frantically on his bed, but the blue screen stayed pinned to his vision, following his every move. Bursting with excitement, he scrambled off the mattress and bolted toward the exit, desperate to find the priest and share his news.

"Father Orsi! Father Orsi!" Asta yelled, skidding into the prayer room. He found the priest kneeling solemnly in front of the altar. "I got it! I finally got my magic!"

Father Orsi turned, looking at the boy with a mix of confusion and concern. "What are you talking about, young Asta?"

"Right here, Father! See this?!" Asta shouted, stabbing his finger at the air. The blue screen drifted perfectly with his movements. "This thing! Look!"

The priest stared at the empty space in front of Asta for a long moment before letting out a heavy sigh. "Asta, it seems you are more hurt than I thought. Please, return to bed and rest, okay?"

  "But Father—!"

"Rest, young Asta," the priest insisted, his voice firm but kind.

"No!" Asta yelled, frustrated that his miracle was being ignored. He turned on his heel and sprinted out of the church toward the fields, where he could see Sister Lily tending to the flowers. He tried to tell her the same thing, but her response was just as disheartening.

"Please rest, Asta-kun," she said softly, her eyes full of worry.

"No!" he shouted again, his frustration mounting.

He ran back toward the orphanage and found Yuno, who was busy tending to the fire. But just like the others, Yuno didn't even blink at the floating rectangle.

"I'm not seeing anything," Yuno replied ftly. He gnced at Asta's bandages and added, "You're hurt. Just rest, okay?"

The rejection stung more than the injury. Asta felt tears welling up in his eyes as he retreated to the dormitory. He climbed back onto his mattress, sobbing quietly as he stared up at the screen that only he could see. Between the physical pain and the weight of his tears, Asta's body finally gave out, and he drifted into a heavy sleep.

The next morning, he sat cross-legged on his bed, staring intensely at the floating screen. "I can't read," Asta muttered, his brow furrowed in frustration. "What is this thing even saying?" He recognized the shapes in front of him as letters—he had seen them in the books the Father read to them—but their meanings remained a mystery. Suddenly, a new box flickered into existence.

[Upon acknowledging the words: 1 Wisdom]

The notification appeared briefly and then vanished. With no other choice, he hopped off the bed and sought out the priest.

"Father, can you help me read?" Asta asked.

"Asta-kun wants to read?!" Father Orsi cried, tears of joy streaming down his face. He was so moved by Asta's sudden interest in education that he practically glowed. "Of course! This old man will help you with anything you need!"

With the priest's patient guidance, Asta spent the next week dedicated to the task. He pored over dusty books and scrolls, learning his first words and letters. To Father Orsi's surprise, the boy who usually couldn't sit still for a second was now focused and absorbing information at an incredible pace. By the end of the week, the mysterious shapes on the blue screen were finally starting to make sense.

It took another week of intense study before Asta finally mastered the letters and words the priest had taught him. Seeking some privacy, he found a hidden spot near the forest behind the orphanage. With a trembling hand, he reached out and pressed his finger against the translucent light.

  [Welcome]

'It says "Welcome,"' he thought, a grin spreading across his face. As he touched the text, the screen flickered, closing for a brief second before expanding again with a new message.

[Congratutions! You have been graced by the gods to help you get stronger.]

It took him a few moments to sound out the rger words, but as the meaning sank in, he erupted with joy.

"Yes! The gods are helping me!" he cheered, jumping high into the air before nding and eagerly tapping the screen again to see what was next.

[Please wait while the System scans your body.]

'"What does—" Asta started to say, but before he could finish the thought, a bolt of white-hot lightning surged through his frame. He let out a sharp scream as the shock sent him crashing to the dirt.

He y there for a moment, his muscles twitching, until the screen flickered and updated. It took him a few seconds to blink away the stars in his eyes, but when he finally looked at the new dispy, he froze in total shock.

  [Status]

  Name: Asta

  Hp: 10/10

  Mp: 0/0

  SP: 50/50

  Race: Human

  Level: 1 (Exp: 0/100)

  Title: [Orphan]

  Css: None

  Stats:

Strength (STR:)5 Can lift a heavy bucket of water. Barely.

Agility (AGI):5 Fast enough to annoy the church goats.

Dexterity (Dex) :3 Cant juggle more than two rocks

Stamina (STA):7 The boy doesn't know how to quit.

Intelligence (INT):4 Focuses entirely on "Sister Lily" and "Muscle."

Wisdom (Wis):2 Smart enough to learn letters

Mana (MP):0 [ERROR: Mana Veins Non-Existent]

Luck (LUK): 1 Gacha pull results: Literal trash.

It took him several minutes to finish reading. At first, he puffed out his cheeks in annoyance—who did this screen think it was, calling his luck "trash"? But then, a wide grin broke across his face. He could actually see his own strength written down!

"So... 'Status' means my name and my current abilities?" he muttered to himself.

  Ding!

  [Upon understanding +1 Wisdom]

Asta's eyes lingered on the word [Mana]. He knew what zero meant, but as he sounded out "non-existent," a cold realization washed over him. It was finally confirmed. He didn't just have low magic—he had none at all.

He slumped to the ground, tears streaming down his face as the screen hovered pitilessly in front of him. "Hey, God," he sobbed, looking up at the sky. "Will you still help me get stronger?"

  The screen flickered.

  [Calcuting...]

The blue light pulsed, and a new wall of text began to scroll upward.

[In a world where Mana is everything, you are nothing. The Gods recognize your existence as an error. Your path is not paved with spells, but with sweat and broken bones. Fortune does not smile upon you, so you must grab life by the throat and force it to grin.]

Asta wiped his nose with his sleeve, his eyes narrowing. The sadness was being repced by a spark of defiance. Then, a new window appeared.

  [Daily Quest]

(Note: Can only be completed once per day. Rewards will be finalized when the user stops.)

  Goal:

  Perform Push-ups

  Rewards:

  0.01 EXP per rep

  0.001 STR per rep

  [ ACCEPT? ]

Asta didn't quite understand the math behind the numbers yet, but he knew deep in his gut that this was a good thing. After wiping away his snot and clearing his tear-filled eyes with his sleeve, he smmed his hand down on [ACCEPT].

Determined to show the Gods he wasn't just an "error," he dropped to the dirt. He grunted, pushing with all his might. One... two... three... his small arms began to wobble violently. By the fourth, his face was bright red. He barely eked out a fifth before his strength vanished completely, and he colpsed face-first into the grass.

He y there, panting and exhausted, as a small chime echoed in his ears.

  [Quest Complete]

  [Received: 0.05 EXP 0.005 STR]

Asta's eyes widened. He whispered the word "Status," and the blue window shimmered back into existence. His breath hitched as he saw that the numbers had actually moved.

  Name: Asta

  Level: 1 (EXP: 0.05 / 100)

  Strength (STR): 5.005

It was a tiny change—hardly visible to anyone else—but to Asta, it was everything. It was proof.

"Yes! I can get stronger!" he yelled, jumping so high he nearly flipped. He pumped a fist into the air, his voice echoing through the trees. "I won't lose! Just you watch!"

[Tutorial Unlocked: Would you like to read?]

Without a moment's hesitation—and without even fully processing the words—Asta shouted, "Yes!"

The moment the word left his lips, a wave of intense drowsiness washed over him. His vision blurred and his knees buckled. Before he could wonder what was happening, his eyes fluttered shut and he slumped over. He hit the ground with a soft thud, his face resting in the dirt as he fell into a deep, magical slumber.

When Asta opened his eyes, he found himself in a strange, infinite space. The floor was a smooth, polished gray, while the "sky" above was a deep, endless night filled with shimmering stars. Nearby, he spotted a simple bed, a chair, and a massive chalkboard.

Feeling a sudden urge to sit, Asta took his pce in the chair. As soon as he did, a figure shimmered into existence in front of him. It was a perfect copy of himself—wearing the same clothes and messy hair—but its eyes were hollow and vacant.

"Good day," the copy said in a ft, mechanical voice. "I am the Tutorial Guide. I will teach you everything you need to know about yourself and the System."

"Hello!" Asta chirped, waving at his twin.

The Guide turned toward the chalkboard, which suddenly transformed. It now dispyed a detailed diagram of Asta's body, with glowing lines connected to his muscles and joints.

"I will now provide a brief summary of your Stats, Skills, and the process of Leveling Up," the Guide expined

"Okay!" Asta replied, leaning forward with his chin in his hands, eager to learn.

The Guide pointed to the board, expining how each Stat governs the way a body functions.

Strength: Governs physical power and the ability to exert force.

Agility: Governs speed, reaction time, and how fast a person can move.

Dexterity: Governs hand-eye coordination, precision, and bance

Stamina: Governs endurance and how long a person can st while performing tasks.

Intelligence: Governs the capacity to learn and store knowledge.

Wisdom: Governs the application of knowledge and the ability to comprehend complex ideas.

Luck: Governs the hidden chances and fortunate events in a person's life.

"The System assigns a numerical value to each of these attributes," the Guide stated ftly. "This allows you to easily gauge your progress. Do you have any questions?"

"None!" Asta shouted, his eyes shining with focus.

"Now let me tell you about skills" the guide said as the board on his back changed again, "as a gift for the tutorial, I will give you two basic skills, please confirm"

  Ding!

  [Received Skill]

  Skill: Observe

Rest is good for your body young man

"Now, there are two types of skills, passive and active ones," the Guide said as he watched the boy read the skills "active skills are skills that can be used manually"

After Asta finished reading the guide continued

"To use the skills, there are two ways: verbally and non-verbally," the guide said. "Let's try it shall we, User please your skill on me verbally first"

  "Okay!" Asta nodded "Observe"

Then a blue screen appeared before Asta with a small picture of the Guide.

  [Status]

  Name: Guide

  Hp: 1/1

  Mp: 0/0

  SP: 50/50

  Race: N/A

  Level: N/A

  Title: The One Who guides

  Css: None

  Stats:

  Strength (STR):1

  Agility (AGI):1

  Stamina (STA:)1

  Intelligence (INT):?

  Wisdom (Wis):?

  Mana (MP):1

  Luck (LUK): 1

  Passive skills

  ?

"Can you see my stats now?" the Guide asked.

"Yes!" Asta nodded, but then he squinted at the screen. "Wait, why is it all blurry?"

"It is due to the gap between us," the Guide replied calmly. "The skill has its limits; your mind is not yet ready to comprehend the full scale of my existence."

The Guide continued, "When you obtain a new skill, remember to read its description meticulously. Understood?"

  "Okay!" Asta shouted back.

"Now, try to use it again. This time, use only your mind."

Asta focused. Instead of yelling the command, he pictured the screen in his head. Immediately, the same status window shimmered into view. Seeing the boy's successful nod, the Guide continued.

"Skills are ranked from E all the way to EX. The description will always tell you the specific requirements needed to evolve them. Pay attention to those."

"How do I get other skills?" Asta asked, his curiosity piqued.

"Some skills are earned through repetitive action," the Guide expined. "But remember, simply repeating a motion will not make an existing skill stronger. To unlock something entirely new, you must master it differently."

  "Okay!"

"Other skills," the Guide added, "can be found within books."

Asta's shoulders slumped slightly. "More reading?"

"That," the Guide said with a ghost of a shrug, "Depends entirely on you, Any other questions?"

Asta thought for a second, squinting at the Guide's status screen. "What are passive skills?"

"They are simir to active skills, but with one major difference: you do not 'use' them," the Guide expined. "A passive skill is always active, woven into your very body and soul. You don't need to think about them; they simply function in the background. Do you understand?"

"Oh! So like breathing?" Asta asked, trying to wrap his head around it.

"In a way, yes," the Guide replied. "They provide constant benefits without consuming your focus or stamina."

"Now, let's move on to Leveling Up," the Guide continued when the boy offered no further questions. "Leveling up is the fundamental process of becoming stronger. When you gain enough experience, you ascend to the next level. Simple, yes?"

Asta nodded vigorously, his eyes glued to the chalkboard.

"Every person in this world—and even some items—has a level. Do not be shocked if you encounter someone at Level 999."

Asta's jaw dropped. "Is that... is that the Wizard King?!"

"Sometimes yes, sometimes no," the Guide replied cryptically. "Moving on. The methods for leveling up are straightforward. Some gain experience through Quests."

"Like the one where I did those push-ups?" Asta interrupted.

"Precisely. Others gain it through training, and many through defeating enemies," the Guide expined. He paused, his hollow eyes meeting Asta's. "And some even level up simply by breathing."

"What?!" Asta yelled, jumping out of his chair. "That's not fair! How can they get stronger just by breathing?!"

"The world is not a fair pce, Asta," the Guide said, his voice remaining ft and cold. "But you are being helped by the Gods. Because of that, every time you level up, you will receive one Stat Point."

"Stat points?" Asta tilted his head, confused.

"Yes. Unlike other people in this world who are stuck with the bodies they were born with, you can choose to grow. Each time you reach a new level, you gain a point that you can add to your Strength, Agility, Stamina, or Intelligence. You cannot use them on Luck or Wisdom, as those must be earned through your actions, but everything else is yours to mold."

Asta's eyes began to sparkle. This meant he wasn't just stuck being weak!

"And that's not all," the Guide continued. "Every five levels, you will receive a Skill Point. These allow you to instantly level up a skill. You could use them to become powerful quickly... though, for someone like you; simply skipping the work would be boring, wouldn't it?"

"Yes!" Asta yelled, smming his fists together. "I want to earn my strength! But having those points is awesome!"

"But remember, you can only level up after you use the skill [Rest], okay?" the Guide said as the boy nodded.

The starry sky and the gray floor began to dissolve into streaks of light. The "copy" of Asta stood still, its image flickering like a dying candle.

"This concludes the basic tutorial," the Guide said, its voice sounding more distant by the second. "There are many features still locked away. If you manage to uncover them, you will find me here again to expin their functions. Until then... survive."

"Bye! And thanks, other me!" Asta yelled, waving his arms wildly as the world turned to pure white.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself staring directly into the dirt. He scrambled to his feet, wiping the grime from his face, and pumped a fist into the air with a triumphant shout.

  "Yosh! I can do this!"

To test his new power, he focused his gaze on a nearby oak. A blue window flickered into existence.

  [Tree]

  Hp: 1000/1000

A simple tree, its growth slightly accelerated by natural mana.

Uses: Can be processed for wood.

He felt a pang of sadness reading that even a common tree was "mana boosted," but he quickly shook it off. He remembered the Guide's words—the Gods were helping him. He was unique, and he was going to be the strongest person there ever was.

As he pumped himself up, another window manifested in front of him.

[Daily Quest] (Only once per day / Rewards will be calcuted if the user stops)

  Goal:

  Perform Sit-ups

  Goal:

  Juggle Rocks

  Rewards:

  0.001 EXP per catch

  0.001 DEX per catch

Asta scrambled to his feet, looking around for suitable stones. "Juggling? That's for performers!" he ughed, picking up two small, smooth pebbles. "But if it makes me get stronger, I'll juggle the whole mountain!"

Then rocks appeared as Asta's eyes followed the rocks with desperate intensity, his small hands snapping at the air. He caught the first. He caught the second. But on the third, the pebble clipped his fingertip and bounced away into the tall grass.

"Ohhh..." he groaned, watching the rock disappear.

  [Quest Complete]

  [Gained: 0.002 EXP / 0.002 DEX]

As he went to pick up the fallen stones, the world around him seemed to dim slightly. A new window, different from the others, pulsed with a faint, ethereal glow.

[Daily Quest] (Only once per day / Rewards will be calcuted if the user stops or fails)

  Goal:

Hide from the God's Light (Only you can see this)

  Rewards:

  0.0001 EXP per Second

  0.00001 AGI per Second

Asta looked up. To anyone else, it was just a normal sunny afternoon, but to his eyes, the sunlight now had a golden, searching quality to it. It felt as if the sky itself was looking for him.

"Hide... from the light?" Asta whispered. "So, as long as I stay in the shadows, I can go faster?"

He scrambled toward a nearby patch of thick bushes and a massive, hollowed-out log. Without a second's dey, he dived into the darkest shadow cast by the oak tree, pressing his back against the cool bark where the sun couldn't reach him.

But even without a second he was already found

"What! But I hide as low as I can get!" he yelped, throwing his hands up in frustration and looking at his tiny shadow with a pout. His small chest heaved as he stood up, feeling cheated by the sudden conclusion.

  [Quest Complete]

  [Gained 0.0001 EXP / 0.00001 Ag

Asta grumbled, kicking a loose stone in frustration over his failed stealth attempt. However, the momentary annoyance vanished instantly as a fresh blue window flickered into view, casting a soft glow over his determined face.

[Daily Quest] (Only once per day / Rewards will be calcuted if the user stops)

  Goal:

  Jog ( Around the Orphanage)

Note: Quest will fail if you run

  Rewards:

  0.00001 EXP per Lap

  0.00001 Sta per Lap

"Now this is something I can do!" Asta shouted, his eyes sparkling with renewed energy. The previous failures were forgotten as he saw a task that relied on pure effort—something he had in spades.

He pnted his feet and started to stretch his legs, reaching down to touch his toes and jumping in pce to loosen up his muscles. With a wide, confident smile, he set his gaze toward the distant church building and began a steady, rhythmic jog, his small feet thumping against the grassy path.

The sun beat down from its peak at high noon, the heat shimmering off the grassy fields as Asta's steady jogging pace finally faltered. His small chest heaved violently, and thick beads of sweat rolled down his face, dripping onto the dry earth. His legs felt like lead, heavy and trembling from the unaccustomed exertion.

With a loud groan, he colpsed backward, lying ft on the grass in the shade behind the orphanage. He stared up at the bright sky, his body radiating heat and his clothes soaked through. He had intended to just catch his breath after his 15th p, but as soon as his movement ceased, the system recognized his stop.

The blue light of the screen shimmered into existence above his exhausted face.

  [Quest Complete]

  Gained: 0.00015 EXP / 0.00015 STA

Asta wiped the sweat from his eyes with a shaking hand, squinting at the rewards. Even though the numbers were tiny, a faint, tired smile spread across his face. He was exhausted, but he was moving—one p at a time.

  Ding!

  [Obtained skill SP Recovery]

  Type: Martial (Passive)

  Resource Cost: 0

Effect: Increase SP Recovery by 0.5% per 20 seconds

Required Stat to level up: 20 Sta.

"Wow..." he whispered, his voice filled with genuine shock. He stared at the description, the tired ache in his muscles feeling just a little lighter now that he had a real skill to show for his hard work. A wide, toothy grin broke out on his face as he celebrated his first-day gains.

However, the sunlight hitting his face was suddenly blocked out. Asta blinked, looking up to see a familiar figure standing over him. It was Yuno, his bck hair catching the midday light, looking down at Asta with a cool, puzzled expression.

"What are you doing?" Yuno asked, his voice calm but tinged with genuine confusion at the sight of Asta colpsed and drenched in sweat.

"Just getting stronger!" Asta chirped, his competitive spirit fring up instantly. He didn't miss a beat as he focused his mind, activating his new ability on his rival.

As the screen appeared, Asta stared at the translucent screen, his eyes nearly bulging out of his head as he scanned the overwhelming numbers.

  Active Skills

  Wind Magic

The gap was staggering. Seeing that 100 Intelligence and the massive 500 MP felt like a punch to the gut compared to his own empty mana reserves. Even Yuno's level was ahead of his. The mystery of the question marks only made the pressure feel more real, but instead of crushing him, the sight of the mountain he had to climb set his heart on fire.

"I won't lose!" Asta yelled at the top of his lungs, the sudden outburst echoing off the orphanage walls.

Before Yuno could even open his mouth to respond, Asta scrambled to his feet with an explosion of energy and bolted. He ran as fast as his tired legs would carry him, disappearing around the corner of the building and leaving his rival standing alone in the shade, blinking in silent confusion at the dust cloud left behind.

The sky had turned a deep, bruised purple by the time Asta finally gave up on his pace. His clothes were torn from snagging on bushes, and his small shoes were caked in mud. Despite the exhaustion, a small window hovered in his vision, proving his frantic sprint back wasn't for nothing.

  Skill: Sprint

  Mastery Level: E (5/100)

  Type: Martial (Active)

  Resource Cost: 1% per second

Effect: Increase Speed by x0.005 agi per second

Required Stat to level up: 20 agi.

The reward for his day of pushing himself was clear: his SP had already ticked up to 5% Mastery.

He stumbled through the front door of the orphanage, looking like he'd been through a war zone. Ignoring the startled look from the other kids, he colpsed onto his bed face-first. The rough fabric of the bnket felt like silk against his skin.

As he y there, motionless, he felt a strange, rhythmic pulse deep in his lungs and muscles. It was the SP skill at work. Every ten seconds, a tiny wave of refreshment washed over him, slowly stitching his energy back together. Then he heard father orsi entered and went to him.

  "asta time for food"

"okay," he said muffled by the pillow then he looked at the priest and used observe.

  Active Skills

[Wind Magic: Tiny Whirlwind: A low-tier spell used mostly for cleaning the church floors or drying undry.

What is that LUK?! Asta screamed internally.

The sheer absurdity of a 500 Luck stat on a man who spent his life peeling potatoes was baffling. It was higher than Yuno's stats! Asta's intense, wide-eyed gaze was so focused on the floating data that the air in the room seemed to get heavy.

"I feel someone is judging me," Father Orsi said suddenly, a cold shiver running down his spine. He spun around, looking behind his back nervously. "Is that you, young Asta?"

Asta jumped, his heart racing. I guess that's what the guide meant about being careful, he realized, sweating for a reason that had nothing to do with running. If people could feel him 'Observing' them, he couldn't just stare at everyone like they were a book.

"No, Father," Asta mumbled, quickly hopping off the bed and tucking the system windows away. He followed the priest toward the kitchen, his stomach growling at the thought of Nomotatoes.

As they walked, Asta couldn't help but feel the [Unconditional Love] passive buff. Even though he was exhausted and his stats were low, just being near Father Orsi made him feel like he could take on the world again tomorrow.

"hello asta, time to eat" sister lily said as the two of them got to the kitchen already there was yuno eating a bowl of porridge. As he sat down, the nun gave him a bowl of porridge then he used observe as he ate

Asta's eyes widened as he looked down at the steaming bowl. He had always known Sister Lily's cooking was the best, but seeing the actual numbers behind it made his mouth water even more. Every spoonful felt like a warm hug for his tired muscles. With the porridge buff stacking on top of his SP skill, he could practically feel his energy bar filling back up in real-time.

While Sister Lily was busy at the stove and Yuno was quietly finishing his own meal, Asta took his chance. He peeked over the rim of his bowl and focused his gaze on the nun but when he used observe on her she immediately looked at him with a questionable gaze but resumed to what she was doing.

Asta almost spit his food when he looked at her stats, there was even a new things in her status that he doesn't know but since it didn't trigger a tutorial he thought that he didn't get to it yet.

"is there something wrong asta-kun?" sister lily asked as she came to him

"nothing!" he yelled as he continued his food, then sprinted out after he finished. Leaving the people there confused.

It was night and the only thing lighting the orphanage are the candles when another screened opened to a very sleepy asta.

'I need go get hit with magic? But how I do that?' asta thought, he can ask yuno but looking at those rewards he thought of a better idea, it's the thing he was doing months ago.

"Sister lily! Marry Me!" Asta Yelled as he kneed infront of the nun while holding a flower.

"its very sweet asta but," sister lily said as she put her fingers on her cheeks, then her grimouire appeared as she prepared a spell "im a nun"

He had a lot to do! He spent the rest of the morning running around and doing all the chores the blue screens asked for. He did them just like he did yesterday, over and over until the Ding! Sounds filled his head.

By the time the sun was right over his head, Asta was finished. He huffed and puffed, wiping snot from his nose with his sleeve. He had tried to be extra sneaky for the sun game today—he even crawled inside a tiny shed and shut the door tight! But it didn't work. The weird golden light found him almost instantly, poking through the holes in the wall like it was pointing a finger at him.

"Darn it!" Asta pouted, kicking the dirt. "How does it keep seeing me?!"

With nothing else to do and the whole afternoon ahead of him, Asta tried to squeeze in a few more push-ups. He only managed a couple before Father Orsi's voice echoed across the yard.

  "Asta! I need your help!"

"What is it, Father?" Asta asked, trotting over.

"I need you to help me peel these Nomotatoes. We just received a fresh batch from the other vilge," the priest said. He handed a small, lumpy vegetable to Asta.

Asta looked down at the brown spud. On a whim, he squinted his eyes and whispered, "Observe."

  Item: Nomotatoes (N)

  Type: Food

Effect: Heals 1% SP over an hour, can cause [Stomach Ache]

[Stomach Ache: Pain on Stomach -10% SP per second for 30 seconds, 10% to repeat effect]

Description: Simple, humble Nomotatoes imbued with a trace of mana—perfect for quick, low-stakes healing… unless you're foolish enough to eat them raw.

Asta's eyes went wide. He looked at the big pile of vegetables Father Orsi had brought out. If he used his "seeing power" on every single one, he could find the best ones to eat and avoid the "tummy hurters." Plus, using his skill over and over would make him stronger!

  Ding!

[1 Wisdom for comprehending skill training]

"I'm gonna be the best peeler ever!" Asta shouted, grabbing a small knife and diving into the pile with a grin.

"that's my boy," father orsi said as he cried tears.

For an hour asta pealed over a hundred nomotatoes for an hour, using observe on everything only seeing the same description on every nomotatoes he did, but after finishing his 101th nomotatoes, the blue screen appeared again.

A knife in your hand is more than just a tool; it's a path, one you've barely started walking.

Asta stopped, holding the tiny, rusty kitchen knife like it was a legendary sword. He didn't quite know what a "Dagger Trial" was, but the knife felt a little lighter in his hand, and his fingers didn't feel as clumsy as they did an hour ago.

"Whoa..." Asta whispered, a huge grin spreading across his face. "I'm a knife master!"

By the time Asta finished his 150th Nomotato, his little arms were shaking. Father Orsi patted his head and smiled. "That's enough for today, Asta. Put the knife away and go get washed up for dinner."

  "Okay, Father!" Asta chirped.

He turned to put the small kitchen knife back on the counter, but just as his hand reached out, a bright blue screen snapped open right in front of his nose

His stomach growled so loud it hurt, so Asta decided to put the knife back for now and scrambled into the kitchen for dinner. After eating his fill of Nomotatoes, he fell into a deep, heavy sleep.

When he opened his eyes the sun was still up but he felt amazing then He hopped out of bed, snuck into the kitchen, and quietly swiped the small knife before anyone could see him. He bolted into the forest behind the orphanage, running until he found a small, grassy clearing. He pulled up the blue screen to check his task.

  [Quest Start]

Asta gripped the handle, but then he paused. "How am I supposed to do a 'stab'?"

Suddenly, a flicker of movement caught his eye. A strange, blurry shadow appeared on his left. It looked just like him! The shadow lunged forward, making a quick, sharp stab with a knife made of darkness.

"Whoa!" Asta's eyes widened. He copied the shadow's stance and thrust his rusty knife forward. Copying it the counter when [Stabs: 1/100].

Asta grinned. "I can do this!"

He repeated the motion over and over, his tongue poking out in concentration. Once the stabs were done, the shadow shifted, showing him how to swing the bde in a long, clean slice. Asta followed the shadow's lead, hacking at the air with all his might.

By the time he finished his 100th slice the sky was dyed orange, and he was very tired from doing this.

Asta flopped onto the grass with a huge smile on his face, his chest heaving as he caught his breath. He rested in the forest clearing for a little while before sneaking back to the church. He managed to slip the rusty knife back into the kitchen without anyone noticing.

As the sun began to set, he grabbed his book for the final quest of the day. He squinted at the letters until the sun went down and the blue box chimed again.
