31. Head Beneath Moonlight

Ravij’s blood surged inside his body, engulfing him in red-hot energy he never knew existed. He grasped the koala tightly and extended his left hand. From his palm, a rock manifested and launched at the Kobold King. They fired repeatedly, burning his Mana like a thirsty elephant, but Ravij did not care.

He needed to get revenge for Sol, his friend.

Ravij screamed out as his rocks bounced off the small golden scales still sparsely covering the king's fleshy body. They moved to block various spells and thrown weapons, but it was obvious they were overwhelmed, as small wounds kept adding up. Ravij didn't need to hit the king directly; keeping some scales busy would be more than enough.

"Death!” Alapa the Koala screamed, holding a spear in a couch lance position. Ravij felt the coarse wood shaft press against his right arm, pinned under the Koala's armpit.

Mustangah the Horse was fearless, even as the King raised that huge Warhammer sideways, ready to swing.

"Beat him to it, Mustangah!” Alapa shouted at the top of his lungs.

"For the hooves!" Mustangah howled, nearly knocking Ravij over in the process. Somehow, Alapa still managed to hold that couch-lance.

The giant hammer swung at them; that gold shimmered like a wall in Ravij's vision. He kept firing sharp rocks at the King, unfazed as each was easily blocked.

“Sol!” Ravij roared. “This is for you—my friend…"

A flash of pain obliterated his left side. It took a fraction of a second for Ravij to recognise they had been hit by that hammer.

  So fast…

In a blink, Ravij flew sideways off Mustangah, his head blanking as he hit something, a coarse surface?

His vision turned black so fast, no, no, this is too fast, too pathetic.

  He closed his eyes.

After Ravij opened his eyes again, the world was a cacophony of blood and chaos. A deafening crash caved the ground, sending blood and body parts flying in all directions.

The Kobold King Salar spun its hammer fast even in that heap of flesh. A bear was completely crushed against a tree, making wood replace where its stomach had been. A head rolled in front of Ravij, the bear's head stared lifelessly at him. It asked What are you doing? Why are you still down?

Ravij stood, to find he couldn’t as his left leg was almost completely destroyed, his HP almost close to zero.

At least, a stab. So I can leave this world knowing I've done some good..

He dragged himself toward the king, passing countless corpses, slick blood preventing his hand from getting a good grasp of the earth. The metallic smell of it was nauseating; he almost puked as the pain kept flaring.

The king crushed another horse to the ground, and its rider met the same fate, as their bone must have been completely obliterated.

  The mere strength of it…

Musa the Lion swiped a blood through its blooming stomach, but the king raked his talon, only needing one hand to lift his hammer. The lion got caught off guard, but somehow still managed to counter the move by bringing a swipe of darkness of his own.

Clash of Talon and Claw meet.

They clashed and pushed against each other, in a wave of Mana, pushing everything back in mere force.

The Lion's claw broke, and Salar’s talon raked across the lion. Musa fell, his throat cut, blood welling beneath his mane.

“No…” Ravij groaned. A silence fell briefly, before Ravij's sharp stone he just conjured landed straight at the King's abdomen, the King's eye settled at him, as the attack had pissed the Kobold more than injured it.

But Saliq's smile still, at least he did something.

“It bled!” Ravij screamed. His cries were drowned off by others around him. The attack resumed – but, still angry at him, the Kobold King ran, with that grotesque body of his, toward Saliq.

It lifted the great hammer and brought it down—

Cel pierced through Salar’s side with his antler, connecting deep into the kobold. The King roared. This is no doubt the biggest damage they have done to it. But, unfortunately, that Huge hammer was still brought down on him, albeit with much weaker force.

Still, it doesn’t matter; he couldn’t move after all.

Just when he was about to brag to Sol in the afterlife, two figures stood in front of him. Both have a shield held up, one is a wooden one, and the other is a blue one that looked like it was made from ice.

The hammer connected – and the shields held. Both of the humans heaved and pushed away their shield, overpowering the Kobold hammer, knocking it back.

“Don’t hold back, kid! We’re finishing this.” The Blue-haired human sounded off, it was sounding very excited.

“Bloody Flamingo…” The other one grumbled. This one sounds rather relieved? It's bleeding from its neck with countless red marks. “I’m going, Gil.” In an instant, cold swirled around the Human, its light skin turned into a dark polished skin with the color of the night, an incredible cold almost stung Ravij.

The shield it had held turned into an astral black color; in its other hand, a thin dark sword appeared out of nothing. Cold vapor climbed up from its weapon and body. Ravij never saw anything like this. Is this what humans are capable of? Right then and there, Ravij knew the Kobold king would die.

Now, he wanted to survive. But his health is trickling; he still wants to live.

I should’ve listened to Elder Maru..

“Monkey?” A long-haired human called, her hair extended to her shoulder like a lion's mane. “Hold on, monkey, I will-“

Magic Vein (Wood) – Magic Vein (Stone)

The upgrade had been worth the pain; the bloody flamingo had pecked straight to his vein, almost killing him. Eve had nearly wrung the flamingo's thin neck apart if she had not been busy healing Rue.

The upgrade had granted him more skill slots, both passive and active. But, most of all, it had granted him more access to smother Mana, which was hard to explain. But, Rue could feel them hanging all around him; he could feel his body was absorbing them much more efficiently than before.

And now, in front of Salar, who had become full of flesh, with a small golden scale moving around its heap of blobbed body. With his defense secure, Rue swung his sword down – cleaving through the defenceless Kobold. Electricity about to crackle, but too late. Icen Frost sprouted up from the wound he had created.

Salar screamed a deep howl, wrenching its left hand to Cel, who still had his antler stuck. With a fist, he knocked the stag away, yanking the antler at once. Blood drenched down, that smash has been weak, Cel is already regaining his balance.

Behind the creature. Benedict, both Hu Goblins, and that girl Yuuki appeared, each of their weapons stabbing deep inside the Kobold. Confused on where to start, the King whipped its tail in a circular motion, which connected to Yuuki and someone else. Rue did not get a good look. The tail spun straight, even toward Gilbert, who was bludgeoning the King's right arm – trying to get it to drop its hammer.

Rue moved quickly, shielding the man with the black shield of his. The tail connected, and it was sneaking like a snake up atop his shield. The golden spear-like tail point lurched, trying to stab him, but Gilbert managed to parry it with his mace. And Rue bash it away, landing another cut at the kobold's stomach.

Holding a sword in one arm is very unfamiliar. Rue almost dropped his shield right there and then. But another attempt to zap them appeared. Gilbert and Rue moved in unison, bending their knee and lifting their shield together. The lighting zap is weak compared to the Kobold’s earlier one. Their shield held very easily.

As Salar was about to bring that Warhammer down on them again, a fireball lurched, crashing against the blob of flesh of the King. It cries as flesh sizzles, sending after ember to Rue’s icy body.

But, it's not the end, sharp stones formed like a triangle shot like a freaking machine gun from the tree line, the King’s scale worked overtime, but was no doubt unable to keep Salar from being hailed down by various spells the animal had. A blue zip of arrow connected, snapping the King’s left shoulder. The barrage of damage kept going, not stopping for any pity.

Salar tried to move its wing around its body, but it did not help.

It screamed, as blood jumped from his back. Cel had returned and once again pierced deep into the kobold flesh with his antler. As the King was about to smash him again, a bear so huge it towered over the other bear bit deep and jabbed its claw in and out of the Kobold.

Rue threw his cube up, then he began slashing down on the King again and again. Raking wound after wound, black ice sprouted up, like crystal made by night, his frost seeped deep inside the King.

The koala rider impaled the King with their spear – they hefted the spear deeper and deeper from atop their horses.

Salar will be dead. No doubt about it, no, his mind set to something else. Rue caught Benedict's eye; the man had a visceral grin plastered across his face – instantly, Rue knew what he was thinking. He just knew.

Now it’s a race for the kill.

Benedict slashed down his long knives over and over, making blood jump up like he was craving meat.

Rue threw down his shield, not intending to lose. He held his sword in both hands and carved through in a downward arc. Splaying a stomach open as tall as he is. Black crystal jumped, and Rue ignored them. He hacked at the plump of meat bag again and again. Electricity tried to resist like a dying life, it crackled and kept crackling as it died down. Rue hacked without rest; he did not need one.

The King finally bent one knee, and conveniently, his neck was exposed. Rue, seeing his chance, jumped up. With his sword whistling through the cool night air, he sliced through the King's throat. Crystal burst forward, shattering to the ground, and the King's body fell, with his head held up by blackened ice.

His head sat right in front of Rue, still attached to his body. Every cell inside Rue was excited. He lifted his dark sword high and brought it down—severing the King's head. No ice emerged from his attack. Salar’s body fell to the ground, his leg no longer able to support him. However, his heads were displayed magnificently with black crystal, reaching up to the moon. The moon shone down on the huge ice wall, illuminating it with bright light. It was as if the wall now acted as a spotlight shining down on the severed king's head.
