The birth of a new god, in the dark

  PART 1:

  PROLOGUE:

During the modern age, the golden era of humanity had begun

  However

It was also by far the worst era of humanity…

It was a normal day in high school,

Haru Senkawa was going about his usual routine in high school.

He was a regular student that had transferred from Japan to Greece

The first subject that they had was history

But the teacher hadn't arrived yet so the class was misbehaving as always

  Causing havoc everywhere you'd look

(I don't even like this place, can't I just go back to japan already?...)

  Thoughts filled his mind slowly

He didn't have any friends in his new school, so naturally no one paid attention to what he was doing

As the minutes passed the teacher was still nowhere to be seen

This was definitely strange. That specific history teacher was never late

Some time later Haru picked up on that

The decision that was most logical was to leave class

He had nothing else to do so looking for teacher to begin the lesson made sense anyways

First he headed towards the upper floor where the teachers office and the rest of the classes where

Surprisingly the teacher wasn't there, usually she'd have a cup of coffee everyday there

Nor did the other teachers know about her whereabouts

At the same time that he was searching, the janitor approached him

“Hey kid, I need a favor from you. Due to my old age, I left my gloves down the school's basement, mind getting them for me? They're yellow and plastic”

“Sure. Do you have any idea where you could have let them in the basement?”

“They were by the gas tanks, I think”

Haru nodded at the janitor's words and wasted no time…

The school was 3 floors, the basement was the last floor, or the 1st floor as they'd refer it to as

He had to descend two floors

By the time he arrived there his lungs were burning

There was a staircase leading down to the basement floor

Surprisingly, the door to the basement was unlocked

Normally, it'd require a key to unlock, but it was already unlocked. It was very strange

While pausing for a second, he ignored it for now and entered anyway

It was pitch black in there

However he had not brought a flashlight with him, even though he did have one in his bag

  “Goddamnit”

  He blurted out

Looking around if there were any switches, but of course, he couldn't see

He wandered, touching the walls of the basement as if if by chance he'd find a switch

For at least 5 minutes he walked until by a stroke of luck or misfortune he finally found the light switch

“Ugh, that took longer than I had anticipated, oh well anyways”

Now he had to look for pair of yellow gloves

Since the basement was already vast enough, he didn't find them at first

(I wonder if the teacher has come back to class yet…)

While muttering to himself, he stumbled upon the gas tanks

Sure enough, there were a pair of yellow gloves there

As he bent over to pick them up he noticed next to the gloves a small pool of blood

The only choice was to look up at the ceiling

He accidentally found a leak, dripping with blood

Slowly he stepped closer, now startled upon closer inspection

  “What the…”

There was a leak in the ceiling that was dripping blood down to the floor

Blood from above had dripped so much that it had created a pool directly below

It felt as if his bones were going to break the way he tensed up

But when viewing logically there weren't any cracks in the ceiling and there was no way that blood could get on there, much less leak

This didn't make any sense, hesitantly he took another step forward

But then, a drop from that blood fell directly into his mouth…

  “...”

At that moment, it was as if time itself had stopped around him

Everyone in the cosmos felt it, now everyone knew that something was off…

  His body absolutely frozen

Loud pumping in his chest reached his ears, dizziness came to him and he started seeing things around him double after 5 seconds

“That didn't taste like normal blood”

The air stuck to his throat, a nauseous feeling came to him as he stumbled backwards, his body staggered back on its own

His senses were at an all-time high alert, but yet, something felt wrong during the process, barf had gathered in his mouth from all the different things he was experiencing at once…..

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

From afar a shadow lurked, 2 set of eyes that glitter in the sunshine

“So he has done it…I must keep this a secret when meeting with him, hmm, should I contact the tribe?”

The shadow moved, it changed scenery, now on top of the school rooftop

“If I contact them surely they'll send in another one and that would defeat the whole purpose”

From below teens were playing casually and the teachers chatted amongst themselves

It reminded her of her role

“Tch, I have to mentor that brat from now on, it's gonna be a nuisance”

  “...”

From behind she could feel movement but she didn't move

  “I wasn't expecting any visitors”

“Forgive my sudden intrusion, but I just thought that we'd have a simple chat”

  “I see…let me guess,you came here as a hologram?”

“An astute guess youngling. Anyway, I'm here to shortly discuss with you about the boy”

With a sigh she turned around to face the old man

  “And what about him?”

“You know the prophecy, royalty must handle the Messiah, so then, why are you here?”

“You think I'd let that disgusting wrench take the mantle?”

“I urge you to rid yourself of such vile language in regards to our highness”

“Highness or not, she is completely incapable of the job. Thrusting her into it would make it far worse”

“That I agree, thrusting someone forcefully handicaps their capabilities. But the prophecy doesn't care”

Amused by his words she scoffed, she really had that degrading look to her

“And how can you even be sure that she is even the princess?”

  “...”

The holographic old man was stunned, such audacity

“You dare to question our rule and advisors?”

“You were this close to snapping at me just now eh? As for your question, it could have been easily been tampered with and the records can't prove otherwise”

“Despicable, so not only would you only go as far as to insult the royal family but to question your race's history?”

“We were taught from a young age to question everything, I don't see why i should trust you people to handle the fate of the world”

“That's not what it's supposed to mean and you know it, no one questions the royal family and gets away with it, much less insult it”

“That sounds like a theocracy to me, the difference is that it's applied to the royal family instead”

While talking he hologram started glitches

“Damn machine, they must have run out of mana, no need, my servants will replace it”

In the next few seconds the hologram stabilized, the old man moved his fingers around to check

  “Acceptable I suppose”

“And you call me despicable when you use servants?”

“Please. You're making it seem like they are my slaves”

“Wouldn't be far from the truth. Oh well, the discussion ends here then. Go on, with your usual duties”

“Much obliged youngling, although, don't think you're getting away scot free, they will come after you”

The old man's hologram vanished in an instant

  “Hypocrites…”

From the ground below sound of chatter and laughter would stop

Time had passed it seemed, 5 minutes? 10 minutes?

She checked her clock to confirm, 3 minutes. That was still enough time

“Maybe I should hang around for the time being, It's not like I'm bothering anyone anyways, but what should I do?...”

At the edge of the building she sat, feet dangling softly over the narrow edge. From the inside she hummed a tune, reminiscent of her childhood

“The lullabies lay low ? and the tune just goes real slow ? as the adults all know ? that you should be in awe ? and the children go around on the go ? Mery round and round it goes real slow ?”

It was a tune that her mother sang to her when she was about 25 years old, fondly she remembered the song, sadly it reminded of her mother in turn

Damn those boards, for taking away what rightfully hers. If only she was the victim of the royal guard

Countless love has been lost to those barbarians, or royal guards as they say, one way or another it didn't make any difference to her

Yet she didn't harbor any vengeful feelings. The memories she made with her parents were enough to her

A gentle exhale escaped her lips, she stood back up, now tittering over the edge of the building. She didn't wasn't to dabble on sad memories anymore

Tears almost pricked at the underbelly of her eyes, fuck, her attempt failed…

  CHAPTER 1:

“What the hell was that about? And why did I panic?”

At last the blood passed his throat

Wearily he picked up the yellow gloves

There was a sudden need to get out of there as soon as possible

Even with the lights on he darted a fast he could, bumping against thing constantly

His head and torso were hit repeatedly when cutting corners, though he was too focused to notice the healing

Even if the blood was harmless the utter dread consumed him while scrambling

  “Shit shit shit…”

Closing the basement’s door behind him, he looked up

From the running his breath was ragged and his eyes were darting around

  “Fuck…”

Although tired he headed towards the second floor

  Again looking for the janitor…

The janitor immediately spotted him with an odd look

“Ah, there you are, young lad, and I see you got my gloves back. It's not bad for your first time in the school’s basement. Wait, how did you get inside without the key?”

“Well that's the thing. The basement was already unlocked when I got there”

Bewilderment portrayed the janitor's face, must be some kind of mistake, right?

“Must be a mistake or something, happens all the time, but why do you seem all shaken up? Did something happen down there?”

“No, uhh, nothing happened it's just that I'm a bit out of shape, that's all”

Even while breathing in and out in an attempt to calm down Haru spoke

Perhaps due to old age or simply his personality, the janitor gave the boy a sly look, no harm intended

“Whatever, none of my business anyways, so I'm not gonna bother you, just give me the gloves”

  “Oh yeah, here”

“Well, is there anything else that you need from me? I'd be happy to help honestly”

Lastly the old man/janitor waved his hand dismissively

  In gratitude Haru gently nodded

With that he headed down to the classroom as he had nothing else to do, other than stay in class for now

Descending down the stairs of the second floor quickly

Surprisingly, Miss Smithrowe had already arrived in class

The rest of the students were still misbehaving

At least they were a lot calmer now that before

“Haru just sit down, I don't have the patience for any excuses now”

She said while writing dates on the whiteboard

Questioning her didn't cross his mind, he just sat down

  “...”

The weirdness of the incident that just happened had heavied his shoulders

  (I can't let anyone else know…)

The lesson continued on as usual, with Miss Smithrowe being as strict as ever

  “...”

After the class had no surprisingly failed

It was Harus’s turn to answer

“Haru, can you please state the reasons as to why the US entered WW1?”

“Uhh sorry miss I don't know, honest”

“Haru, what's on your mind? You're clearly not here. Otherwise, you would have answered my question”

Miss Emily Smithrowe said with a raised eyebrow

With a groan Haru lifted his face from the desk

“Miss, if I had a penny for every time that I wasn't paying attention to what you said, I'd be richer than your ex now”

The whole class burst into laughter maniacally

“On a serious note, it's nothing. I'm just thinking about something personal. Don't worry”

Embarrassment washed over her at his roast but couldn't show it, so she pressed on with the lesson as per usual

“Tch! Kids settle down! You lot are a wreck!”

  “Stupid kids and stupid parents”

The class had gone, usually quiet at that

After an hour or so, the class ended

Without warning Haru skipped the rest of the day by heading straight for school

Most likely due to the incident at the basement

Although, it would be pretty weird to return home that early so he waited for 4 hours and then went home

Having reached his house, he opened the front door quietly with the house keys

His parents were casually having a grab for themselves, specifically chinese takeout

His dad glanced at him while entering

“Hey son, how'd school go? From that expression of yours I'd guess well enough, come sit with us if you're hungry”

Shirou said while putting the fork aside

“No thanks, I'm not hungry. I ate at the school cafeteria. I'm full”

Haru said, setting his bag aside and his jacket on the coat hanger

“Not hungry? Huh, that's a first. Usually, you never eat at school. What's up with you today?”

Because of the slurping Kuse’s words came out muffled

Yep, he definitely expected a lot of questions today and especially from his parents

“There's a first time for anything, I guess, am I right?”

“If he doesn't want to eat, then don't press him. First time or not, kid just got your room”

Shirou(his dad) looked at Kuse(his mom) with an unimpressed look

“What? I was clearly just teasing him. Relax”

An exaggerated sigh he let slip, heading towards his room anyway

The door the slammed shut, the sound echoed through the house rather loudly

His parents flinched, not having expected him to be angry

“Don't you think you're too light on the kid sometimes, eh shirou?”

A huff was his only reaction

As he finished he grabbed the empty noodle cup that he had eaten

“He's old enough to know how to keep his emotions in check, there is no need for us to interfere, Kuse”

With the work settled both returned to silence

And Haru's room was never opened again for the night…

The distress ate at him, and the pressure weighed him down

(That's blood…why does it affect me so much?...)

What could only work was venting his anger in negligence, neglecting his homework for tomorrow and every other responsibility that he had

The thoughts in his head wrestled with his own logic, what happened to school today kept playing in his mind like a broke record

(I can't make sense of it, none of it…)

In desperation he tried to connect the dots, however it wasn't possible, it was much too complicated

So like the teenager he is, he just gave up on even trying

Yes he could process it now but he was all but too emotionally unstable to do it at the moment

Not even he knew what that was…

The clock had reached midnight, his parents were now extremely worried

They paced back and forth in the living room with their arms crossed, but they still gave him as much space as possible

To get some fresh air Haru went over to the window to open it, while looking outside he gazed at the moonlight

As nothing happened, he went back to bed with a sigh…

Suddenly a girl dashed through his window landing on the carpet

It was a girl dressed in baggy clothes and had long hair with glasses and pointy ears?!

That was unexpected, he didn't even noticed that his widened

The elf stood before him, her glasses reflecting the moonlight glow, even her breath was visible due to the cold, it also seemed that she was tired?

“What the hell?! Where did you come from, and why in my room? I just have so many questions. Wait, you're an elf?! They exist?”

“Oi, keep your voice down, you idiot. Do you want the whole neighborhood to hear you?”

“Oh, yeah sorry… I just got a tad bit more excited than I should have, but can you blame me? It's not everyday that you get to see an elf, let alone one in my room”

(So this is who the codex picked? Why aren't I surprised?)

“The hell? I'm not gonna hurt you dumbass, but yeah, you're right. I can't blame you for that one, I guess, although there is a very important reason as to why I came here tonight”

Her clothes were somewhat dirty and dusty from the tree so she dusted herself off with her hand

“Well that's what I expected. You don't go barging in on random people's houses like that, so there must be a reason”

“Ey looks like we have a real smart-ass on our hands, ahem, anyways the reason that I'm here is because you're the new host of the imaginary codex”

Utter confusion came over Haru when she explained, his eyes narrowing as he looked at her

“I-imaginary codex, the fuck are you talking about? Is this a prank or something?”

“No this is not a prank, what I mean is that the blood which I would presume you consumed today was the blood of Christ aka the imaginary codex, but of course you wouldn't understand any of this now would you?”

“What?! So Jesus is a real thing?...Now of all times I'm reconsidering my life choices, sorry ahh could you elaborate more on this imaginary codex thing?”

This didn't surprise her one bit, in fact she laughed at the first comment while looking at him, the moonlight casting down on her body

“Basically the imaginary codex is one of the 9 holy relics of the eastern orthodox Church, specifically”

It took a moment for Haru to process all that, then he responded

“Chosen? You mean that thing chose me? You know what, I won't even ask, but what I'm gonna ask is how do you know all of this?”

“I will be willing to tell you if you follow me, pretty boy, so what do you say, you trust me?”

  Haru was torn apart now

On the one hand trusting a complete stranger was totally bonkers but on the other hand he never had anything interesting to do with his life so he had nothing to do or lose either way

The light from the moon shined brighter on Sylvia at that moment

While he was contemplating Sylvia stayed quiet, her hands now in her pockets

(What do I do?...I have an opportunity to change…I can finally be useful…)

Shit! This was all or nothing…

“Fine I accept, I really hope though that you do not backstab me”

“Backstab you? No, I'm not that cruel! Jeez you brute”

  Her hands waived around purposely

  “Phttt”

  “Shut it!”

“Anyways, I almost forgot, my name is Haru, yours?”

  “Uhh it's Sylvia”

Sylvia's eyes averted to the left, he noticed that too but didn't press

“By the way, you have to have this”

A golden orthodox cross was placed around his neck, it being with a small ruby in the middle of it

  “Huh? What's this for Sylvia?”

“It's for your new ability, originally this was the relic itself, the ability that I forgot to explain”

“How do you even have it?”

“Don't worry about it now…its just a hunch that I had today”

  Sluggishly Sylvia slumped her shoulders

“I have a lot of explaining to do”

With no other time to waste Sylvia just grabbed his hand and dragged him over the window, using teleportation magic to teleport into a room filled to the brim with books snacks and pens scattered all over the place, a total mess

Due to teleporting Haru felt dizzy, faintly touching his head

“Oops, I forgot to clean my place, it seems. Surely you will help a little girl, won't you?”

“Why you - first you just dragged me by my hand over a window, and now you want me to help you clean up?...ok fine but I have lots of questions for you”

  “Oh I'm certain”

An involuntary puff escaped his lips, the feeling of giving up washed over him…
