Episode 3: Truth or Dare
The screen flickered back to life.
White text.
Black background.
GAME ONE: TRUTH OR DARE
1. Players will draw in numerical order.
2. You may not show your paper.
3. You may verbally state your instruction.
4. Refusal activates a consequence.
5. Failure to complete an instruction results in system judgment.
The last line pulsed once.
Then the red box slid onto the teacher’s desk.
No one touched it.
PLAYER 01. STEP FORWARD.
Mio laughed under his breath.
“Guess that’s me.”
He walked up casually, like this was still a prank.
Reached in.
Pulled a folded slip.
Opened it.
Something shifted in his eyes.
Just for a second.
“What is it?” Cherry asked.
Mio folded the paper.
“I’ll take the consequence.”
The room froze.
“You didn’t even say it,” Mizhang snapped.
“Didn’t want to.”
The screen responded instantly.
TRUTH DECLINED.
CONSEQUENCE ACTIVATED.
The classroom door unlocked.
Opened into darkness.
DARE: CONTINUOUS MOVEMENT.
DURATION: 10 MINUTES.
IF YOU STOP, YOU WILL BE REMOVED.
Mio swallowed.
Then grinned.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“See you in ten.”
He stepped into the dark.
The door shut behind him.
Timer appeared.
09:59.
From the hallway—
A metallic scrape.
Then something running.
Fast.
Not alone.
Cherry pressed a hand over her mouth.
Ayato didn’t look at the door.
He watched the screen.
?
PLAYER 02. STEP FORWARD.
Yuri moved without hesitation.
Drew.
Read.
“Dare.”
“What does it say?” someone asked.
She hesitated.
“Choose one player to lose.”
The screen updated:
MAJORITY REQUIRED.
05:00.
The room fractured instantly.
“What does lose mean?”
“Lose what?”
“From the game?”
“If we don’t vote—”
Ayato spoke calmly.
“If we don’t decide, the system will.”
Timer: 03:41.
Arguments erupted.
Names thrown out.
Accusations.
Fear.
Mio’s timer ticked in the corner.
06:12.
The vote never finalized.
The screen shifted red.
FINALIZING RANDOM SELECTION…
Player numbers flickered above their heads.
Glitching.
Shuffling.
Cherry grabbed Yuri’s sleeve.
“Stop it.”
The numbers slowed.
Stopped.
PLAYER 27 glowed.
He barely had time to react.
The lights cut out.
Pitch black.
The classroom doors unlocked.
Opened.
Air shifted.
Footsteps entered.
More than one.
A desk scraped violently.
Someone gasped.
Then—
A short, choking sound.
Cut off.
The doors slammed shut.
The lights snapped back on.
Player 27’s desk was empty.
His chair tilted slightly back.
And on the floor—
A thin line of blood.
Starting at his desk.
Dragging across the tile.
Under the classroom door.
Still wet.
PLAYER 27 REMOVED.
No body.
No struggle.
Just that line.
?
The classroom door burst open.
Mio stumbled in.
Breathing hard.
“There were at least three of them—”
He stopped.
Saw the blood.
“…oh.”
His timer disappeared.
CONSEQUENCE COMPLETE.
No one spoke.
?
PLAYER 03. STEP FORWARD.
Mizhang rose.
Drew.
Smirked slightly.
“Dare.”
“What is it?” Cherry asked.
“Slap Player 14.”
He crossed the room.
Slapped her.
Hard.
The sound echoed.
The screen flickered.
DECLARATION ACCEPTED.
Not verified.
Accepted.
Ayato noticed the wording.
Mizhang’s hands were trembling when he returned to his seat.
?
The game continued.
Minor truths.
Petty dares.
Rising tension.
No one refused again.
No one risked it.
And then—
PLAYER 12. STEP FORWARD.
Ayato stood.
Walked to the desk.
Reached into the box.
Pulled a folded slip.
Opened it.
His expression didn’t change.
“What is it?” Cherry whispered.
He folded the paper carefully.
“It says…”
He paused.
“One player is lying about their paper.”
Silence.
The screen brightened.
IDENTIFY THE LIAR AND ELIMINATE THEM.
YOU MAY INTERPRET “ELIMINATE.”
SELECTED PLAYER MUST NOT REMAIN IN THIS ROOM WITHIN 3 MINUTES.
Timer appeared.
03:00.
The room imploded.
“What?!”
“Who’s lying?”
“I told the truth!”
“This is insane!”
Ayato didn’t react.
He observed.
Mizhang wouldn’t meet his eyes.
Player 05 was too calm.
Yuri was perfectly still.
Cherry stepped closer.
“You don’t have to do this.”
“If I don’t,” Ayato said quietly, “the system will.”
02:11.
He moved suddenly.
Grabbed Mizhang by the collar.
Mizhang resisted.
“What are you doing?!”
“When you slapped her,” Ayato said evenly, “your hands shook.”
“That doesn’t mean—”
Ayato shoved him toward the door.
Opened it.
Dark hallway.
Pushed him out.
Door slammed shut.
Timer hit zero.
Silence.
The screen flickered.
INTERPRETATION ACKNOWLEDGED.
CONDITION EVALUATING…
Long pause.
Too long.
Then—
INCORRECT IDENTIFICATION.
Cherry’s voice broke.
“No—”
The Game Master spoke calmly.
“You have eliminated the wrong player.”
The lights cut out instantly.
Pitch black.
The doors unlocked.
Opened.
Something entered.
Breathing.
Heavy.
Close.
A chair toppled.
Someone sobbed.
A sharp inhale—
Then silence.
The doors slammed shut.
Lights returned.
Everything looked the same.
Except—
Another desk was empty.
And now there were two thin trails of blood.
One from Player 27.
One fresh.
Leading under the door.
PLAYER 18 REMOVED.
The door unlocked again.
Mizhang stood there.
Alive.
Staring at the blood.
The screen updated:
PLAYER 03 REINSTATED.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
Ayato stared at the second blood trail.
The liar was still here.
And now—
Everyone knew he was capable of choosing wrong.
