Ariel and Holly stepped out of the women’s bathroom just as the sun dipped toward the horizon, casting long amber streaks across the wide windows of the Pit. The buzz of final preparations hummed around them, but for a moment, they were suspended in their own quiet glow. Both wore semi-formal dresses that shimmered in the evening light: Ariel in deep green satin that hugged her full curves with quiet confidence, and Holly in a soft gold wrap dress that caught the light with every step.
"You look gorgeous," Ariel murmured, smoothing a stray lock of Holly’s hair behind her ear. Her fingers lingered a moment longer, her green eyes soft with something more than just affection.
“...Thank you for letting me love you”
She looked past Holly briefly—toward the banner now hung across the studio wall, the sound of last-minute decorations still rustling in the air—and then back to Holly, her voice barely a whisper. "Can you believe this all started on a whiteboard?"
Holly smiled, the corners of her eyes crinkling with warmth. "Still the best idea you've ever had," she whispered back, then leaned in and kissed her softly. "Now let’s go make some magic."
The livestream countdown began on a nearby monitor: fifteen seconds.
A technician in a headset gave Holly a thumbs-up from across the room.
She turned, smoothed the front of her dress, and stepped into the spotlight in front of the studio’s primary camera rig. A quiet fell over the space as the red light blinked on.
Holly beamed.
"Good evening, everyone!"
Her voice rang out warm and confident, honed from years of fan meetups, interviews, and dev streams. Her presence was natural, welcoming.
"Whether you're watching from your phone on the bus, curled up on your couch, or sneaking this under your desk at work—we see you, we love you, and we are so glad you're here tonight. Welcome to the official launch celebration for Lumio Forest."
She let the cheers in the studio roll for a moment.
"This game has been a labor of love from the very beginning. It started as a simple concept in a notebook and grew into a world filled with color, courage, and the belief that even a single lantern can light the darkest path. The past few years have been challenging in so many ways, for all of us. And yet... every day, this team showed up with passion, with joy, and with a shared purpose: to make something beautiful."
She glanced toward the rest of the Pit.
"Let me show you some of the faces behind the magic."
The camera panned across the studio floor. Cheers erupted as developers, designers, QA testers, and artists waved and grinned at the lens. Someone held up a plush of the game’s main companion creature. Lin, with a star sticker on her forehead, proudly held up a handmade sign that said "Go Willowbound!"
Ariel lit up at the sight of her goddaughter, her lips curling into an affectionate smile. She murmured to herself, just off-camera, "There’s my favorite little fox spirit."
Laughter bubbled up. Holly's voice continued over the joyful noise.
"These are the people who built Lumio Forest from the ground up. Who stayed late fixing bugs, who rewrote dialogue at midnight because it just didn’t feel quite right, who tested every pixel of every secret room. I’ve never worked with a more dedicated, imaginative, or downright lovely group of humans."
The camera cut back to Holly. Her expression had softened slightly, a note of emotion in her voice.
"Like so many of you, I’ve needed light in the dark before. And being a part of this reminded me that even the tiniest spark can be enough to lead you home."

She glanced toward Ariel, pride and affection blooming behind her eyes.
"And now, it is my absolute honor to introduce the woman whose vision, leadership, and heart made this entire journey possible. The soul of Willowbound Studios. Please welcome our Director of Game Development and my favorite human in the world: Ariel McIntyre!"
She turned, eyes shimmering as she gestured to Ariel off-camera.
Ariel entered the frame with a radiant smile, waving excitedly to the camera and those watching around the world. Her cheeks were flushed with excitement, and her green dress shimmered beneath the studio lights as she stepped up beside Holly.
"Hey everyone," she began, her voice bright and slightly breathless from emotion. "Wow. I don't even know where to begin. First off: thank you. For being here, for watching, for supporting us all these years."
She paused, eyes scanning the studio filled with friends, teammates, and joyful noise. Her gaze flicked back to the camera.
"The idea for Lumio Forest didn’t come from one person. It came from all of us. It was born out of brainstorming sessions with the team, quick sketches passed around, hallway conversations about light and hope, and late-night text chains where someone would say, 'Wait, what if...' and suddenly we had a whole new mechanic."
She laughed softly, her hand making a small, circular motion like she was stirring air. "It’s been this collective dream that we’ve nurtured together. And to see it become real—this magical world filled with lantern spirits, quiet courage, and radiant color—it’s overwhelming in the best way."
Her tone turned a little more heartfelt, her smile softening. "And our community...you all have meant so much to us. Whether you met us at a booth in Boston, sent us fan art, wrote to us about how Wispwood Haven helped you through a hard time, or just quietly supported us from afar—you’re part of this story, too. You’ve inspired us more than you know."
Ariel glanced toward the countdown clock just off-screen.
"In just a few short hours, Lumio Forest will be out in the world. And I can’t wait for you to explore it. To discover its secrets. To find the light in the dark. To find the color in a colorless world. Thank you for trusting us with your time and imagination. We hope this world becomes a little piece of home for you, the way it has for us."
She placed a hand over her heart and offered a warm, steady nod to the camera.
"Let’s begin."
The room erupted into applause, and the chat stream lit up with hearts, emojis, and celebratory cheers from fans around the world.
Ariel stayed on camera for another few minutes, answering a curated handful of fan-submitted questions. When asked who her favorite character was, she grinned and said, "That’s like picking a favorite child, but I do have a soft spot for the lantern maker in the Windblown District; her storyline makes me cry every time." For her favorite area to design, she lit up even more. "The Shifting Hollow," she said without hesitation. "That whole section with the color-draining fog; it was such a challenge but so satisfying to bring to life." Another fan asked if there were any plushies coming soon. Ariel laughed. "We’re definitely in talks. I mean, who doesn’t want a little glowing fox spirit on their desk?" The last question was about Easter eggs. Ariel leaned in conspiratorially. "Okay, so... there may or may not be a secret area where you can find a coffee cart hidden in the woods. But you didn’t hear that from me." Her face glowed with each answer, her joy palpable, her connection to the game and the community unmistakable.
Eventually, she clasped her hands together and gave one final grin.
"Alright, that’s it for now. We’ll be here all night, celebrating and streaming a little gameplay later—so stick around, and enjoy the party with us!"
She gave a final wave, and the livestream cut to a rotating set of behind-the-scenes footage from development and art time-lapses.
Ariel stepped out from the camera’s spotlight and was immediately swept into a warm hug by Holly. The two of them, still glowing from the adrenaline of the stream, joined the rest of the studio as the party officially began. Music from the Lumio Forest soundtrack filled the air, mingling with laughter, clinking glasses, and the hum of conversation.
The Pit had transformed into a space of joy and celebration. Lights twinkled across the ceiling, and the snack table had become a centerpiece of color and delight. Lin zipped around with a plate of fruit and cookies, Jordan and Maddy not far behind her, while Lila and Marissa chatted with some of the animators near the mural wall.
Ariel and Holly floated between groups, their hands often brushing as they walked. Everyone they passed lit up with affection, whether it was a high-five, a quick hug, or an excited story about a favorite moment from development. For tonight, there were no tasks, no deliverables. Just joy, community, and the quiet, immense pride of making something that mattered.
At one point, Ariel turned to see the banner strung high across the studio wall: Lumio Forest - Let the Light In. She felt the air catch in her throat. All the years of labor, of doubts and dreams and late-night breakthroughs, now hung in simple, glowing words.
Beside her, Holly followed her gaze. For a moment, she said nothing. Then, softly, "It’s real."
Ariel slipped her fingers between Holly’s. "It really is."
