Chapter 2: Mia

  Dio Perspective

Mia... if you can hear me from up there, I thank you for everything you've done for me.

Dio stood before the small, simple grave, which was now covered in soft green moss. He had turned twelve years old. He was no longer that small, frightened child. He had become taller, thinner, and his once-innocent features were now sharp and cold.

His long white hair flowed down over his shoulders, and his eyes... had turned golden, the same cold golden color as his father's. He placed a small bouquet of the wild blue flowers she had loved on the grave.

Why, I wonder... am I not crying? he whispered into the cold forest air. Why am I not sad? You were supposed to be the person closest to my heart. I'm sure of it. So... why this emptiness?

He sighed, turned, and walked back towards the abandoned mansion that had become his prison and his kingdom.

He entered the kitchen; the smell of dust and loneliness greeted him as usual. He opened a cupboard and took out a package of instant noodles. As he poured hot water over them, a half-smile formed on his face. If Mia saw me doing this, she would be furious

He took his bowl and walked to the vast, dark dining hall. She was sitting there, at the other end of the long table, like an elegant ghost. Maria. She was waiting.

Strange, Dio said as he began to eat, his voice echoing in the silence. Why are you here? You didn't even come to Mia's funeral.

And why would I go to the funeral of a servant? she replied coldly without looking at him.

Dio golden eyes hardened. Go and visit her today.

Maria turned her face away, as if she couldn't bear to look into his eyes. It's none of your business.

Dio finished his food and threw it in the trash bin. We have visitors today, she said suddenly.

Who? I don't think Mia has any relatives.

They have nothing to do with Mia! It's my brother, his wife, and their son.

Dio said in surprise The de Foix family? Why would they come to visit you after all this time?

Because I invited them. Because I am returning to my family. Without you.

He looked at her, then burst into a cold, mirthless laugh. You want to leave your son? Your own flesh and blood?

Suddenly, Maria stood up and screamed, all her suppressed cruelty exploding from her. The son who doesn't call me 'mom'?! The cold son who looks at me with eyes as if he wants to kill me?! The son who thinks he's strong when he's just a talentless nothing?!

Dio approached her slowly, with a terrifying calm. She backed away with every step he took, until her back was against the wall. He leaned in until his face was directly in front of hers, his golden eyes staring into her terrified ones.

Then, he whispered, why are you so afraid of this 'talentless nothing'?

She slapped him. The sound of the slap was deafening in the silent hall. Then she turned and fled.

What a wonderful woman, Dio said to the emptiness. She slaps her son and runs away from him.

He walked through the silent corridors. At least... I still have the library.

The library was his only sanctuary. A quiet, orderly place, a complete contrast to the emotional chaos of his life. The smell of old books and paper was the only fragrance that comforted him. I've finished most of the books, he thought as he headed to a section he had never visited before.

And as he was examining the high shelves, a book fell from the top, as if it had jumped on its own. He picked it up. Its cover was of old black leather, with no title. He opened it and found that its pages were completely blank. But on the last page, in a small corner, there was a single word written in an ancient, strange language he had never seen before.

Strange... he whispered. Why would a book like this be placed here?

He took it with him and sat at his usual table. But before he could examine it further, he heard the sound of an approaching flying car. They've come early

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

He stood at the entrance of the mansion to greet them. An arrogant man with a thin mustache, his wife who looked at everything with disdain, and their son who stood silently behind them. He was about the same age as Dio, with short silver hair and curious eyes.

Dio said with a formal bow I welcome the de Foix family to my humble mansion, I am Dio, lord of this mansion.

the man said Learned some manners, , am Rive de Foix, a Fifth Circle sorcerer. This is my wife, Alma, and this is my son, Cairo, a Second Circle sorcerer.

  Welcome. Please, come in.

I led them to the dusty guest room. Dio said as he opened the windows Forgive the poor quality of the reception, But you are our first visitors in a long time. And because of a certain woman, I only learned of your arrival late.

Dio sat down and said, what do you honor us with this visit, Rive de Foix?

Can't a brother visit his sister? Rive said sarcastically.

Dio smiled. No. He can't. Would you please get to the point?

I want to bring my sister back to the family home. This place does not suit her.

Dio changed his posture, crossing one leg over the other. Do you wish to steal the lady of the mansion from the lord of the mansion? As you can see, without a lady of the mansion, this is no longer a mansion, is it... Mother?

Alma screamed, That's enough, you useless brat! Who do you think you are to talk like this to maria ?!

Dio suddenly stood up, the smile vanishing from his face. Who do I think I am? I am Dio van der Wood, the first of his name, the first son of the head of the family, Corvus, and the legitimate heir of the Van der Wood family. Speak with respect, and quietly, and do not scream in my house.

Rive laughed. The head of the family knows about this visit. And he has decided to divorce his wife, Maria. She will return to her family. As for his son... he will remain his son and heir until further notice. Come on, let's go.

They stood up to leave. Maria, You are not my mother, and you never were. Don't forget that if we meet again.

They left, leaving him alone in the silent room.

  Alone... in the mansion.

The door suddenly opened. It was Cairo. There was no disdain or pity in his eyes, just pure curiosity.

In the library of your old mansion, have you seen any book with no title, empty on the inside, with a word in an ancient language on the back? I know it's a foolish question just answer .

Dio froze. How strange. And what a coincidence. The very day I find this book, someone comes asking about it.

  Yes, I have this book.

Cairo's eyes widened. Finally! I've found it!

Cairo! Come! Alma's voice came from outside.

I'll be back, Cairo said as he left, leaving the door open behind him.

They have no manners, huh? Dio muttered, and returned to the library.

In the middle of that night, Dio awoke to a light weight on top of him. He opened his eyes to find Cairo standing on his chest, staring at him with curiosity.

Dio screamed, and Cairo fell to the floor.

Damn it! What are you doing, you bastard?! Why are you on top of me?!

You're the bastard! Cairo retorted as he got up. I told you I would meet you! Why were you sleeping like a goat?!

And how was I to know you meant today?! It doesn't matter! Where's the book?

First, tell me what this book is.

Damn, I didn't want to explain, but... in short, it is said that this book holds information about a forbidden class, other than sorcerers and Anvil Artisans.

  A third class?

"Yes! I was looking for it because I have the key. I found it in our old family mansion, with a message saying the key opens the empty book that holds the power of demons, and on the day of its reopening, a hero will appear to defeat these demons. And I, with my expertise, thought I would find it in another old library. Now, give me the book!

Dio looked at him as if he were a fool. Are you an idiot? You want to release demons into the world?

But the hero will also appear! It's the nonsense of people from the Stone Age! It's a third class that opens in a secret way that makes you the most powerful in the world! You have no energy, right? Don't you think this is your chance?

  Dio was silent.

I am extremely curious to know what's inside this book, and you want power, Cairo said with a smile. "It's the perfect duo.

Dio sighed. "Damn it. Fine, let's do it.

In the library, Cairo looked around in shock. Wow! This is bigger than our library!

Dio gave him the book. Cairo took out an old key, with the same strange inscriptions on it.

Do you know how to read this language?

Yes, I learned it while searching for the book. I was eight when I found it.

Suddenly, the book flew from Dio's hand, and the key flew from Cairo's. They merged in the air and lit up with a bright white light. The open book fell onto the table, its pages no longer blank. A title appeared on the cover:

"The Magical Swordsman: The First, and Not the Last."

They opened the first page. It was written in an ancient language, but Cairo read it aloud.

To whoever reads this book... I wrote this because I have faith. I was called talentless, but I did not believe it, and I will not believe it. I am gifted. I dedicated my entire life to finding a way to use magic. At the end of my life, I learned something.

The Magical Swordsman... the first, and not the last. I found these words in an ancient temple of people who worshipped the Abyss in a time before the five heroes, whose descendants are now the masters of the five great families, sealed it.The Abyss, the place where it is said there are monsters that kill Ninth Circle sorcerers with ease.

Why, I wonder, did people in that era worship it? I did not understand this, but I believe that whoever built it is waiting for this entity, the Magical Swordsman. I am not him. But what drew me was not the word 'the first', but 'not the last'. you who reads this, remember me. I am a man who only dreams.

Do not remember my name. I hope that the first Magical Swordsman finds this magical book... and thank you for being born. Thank you for helping us. I do not know if these words will help you, but in my research, I learned that you are without energy because you do not store it... but you manipulate it.

And you impose your will on the world, unlike sorcerers.

Cairo looked at Dio after he had finished, his eyes wide with amazement.

Impossible... we're not in a silly series, are we?
