Thread: Anyone else see that weird Grass-type at Rustboro Gym?

  Posted by RoxanneFan_Pokemon

Was watching battles at the gym yesterday and saw something I've NEVER seen before. Some guy challenged Roxanne with a green cat Pokemon that isn't in any Hoenn dex. It had like, a flower pattern on its face and moved super fast. Looked up everything I could find and got nothing.

  Anyone know what it was??

  Reply from GraniteCityLocal:

I saw that too! The trainer was maybe early 20s? Had a Ralts as well. The green thing used Leafage so definitely Grass-type but yeah, not from around here.

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

Did some digging. Pretty sure that's a Sprigatito—it's a starter Pokemon from the Paldea region. They're not available in Hoenn AT ALL. Like, you literally cannot get one here legally unless you import it through special programs.

How the hell did some random new trainer get one???

  Reply from RoxanneFan_Pokemon:

Paldea?? That's across the ocean! The travel costs alone would be insane. And you're saying this is a STARTER? Like, given out by professors to new trainers?

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

Yeah. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly—those are the Paldean starters. They're region-locked. You can't just buy one.

I'm going to look into this more. Something weird is going on.

  Reply from CasualBattleFan:

Maybe he's from Paldea originally? Moved to Hoenn and brought his starter with him?

  Reply from GraniteCityLocal:

Someone at the Pokemon Center said he registered in LITTLEROOT. Under Professor Birch's sponsorship. Brand new trainer, like started-two-weeks-ago new.

A brand new trainer with a foreign regional starter. Make it make sense.

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

I heard a rumor from a friend who works at Devon that there was an Aether Foundation transport crash near Littleroot a few weeks back. Some kind of relocation program. Maybe the Sprigatito was on that transport?

Still doesn't explain how some random amnesiac ended up with it though.

  Reply from RoxanneFan_Pokemon:

Wait AMNESIAC? Where did that come from?

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

Just rumors. Supposedly the guy showed up out of nowhere with no memory of how he got to Hoenn. Birch sponsored him anyway.

Look, I'm not saying anything shady is going on. But this whole situation is WEIRD. I'm keeping an eye on it.

  Reply from TrainerTommy_Pokemon:

Hey, I actually MET this guy! His name's Jason, he was in Littleroot when I passed through. He's super nice and his Sprigatito (he calls her Sprig) is really well-trained. He helped me prep for my first gym battle.

Whatever happened with the transport crash, he's a legit trainer. Don't spread rumors about him being shady or whatever.

  Reply from GraniteCityLocal:

@TrainerTommy_Pokemon Fair enough. Just unusual, that's all.

Did he say anything about where he's from?

  Reply from TrainerTommy_Pokemon:

He said he doesn't remember. The amnesia thing is real—he genuinely doesn't know his past. But he's working hard and treating his Pokemon right. That's what matters imo.

  Reply from CasualBattleFan:

Okay but can we talk about the fact that he WON against Roxanne? With a two-week-old team? That's actually impressive regardless of where his Pokemon came from.

  Reply from RoxanneFan_Pokemon:

TRUE. Roxanne doesn't go easy on anyone. If he beat her that fast, he's got real talent.

Weird origin story or not, I'm interested to see where this guy goes.

Thread: Early Season Standouts - Who's Looking Strong?

  Posted by CompetitiveObserver

We're about six weeks into the new season and some interesting trainers are emerging. Wanted to start a thread tracking notable challengers. I'll update the OP as the season progresses.

  Current Standouts:

  • Marcus Webb (Mauville) - 3 badges, strong showing against Wattson. Electric-specialist with unusual defensive tactics.

  •
  • Sarah Chen (Fortree) - 2 badges, but her Altaria is already showing Championship potential.

  •
  • Kenji Tanaka (Rustboro) - 1 badge, but watch his Breloom. Kid's got instincts.

  •
  • Jason Cahill (Littleroot) - 1 badge. The Paldean starter guy. Beat Roxanne in two weeks flat with a team that included a newly-caught Ralts. Either very talented or very lucky. Time will tell.

  •

  Anyone else I should add?

  Reply from GymRatHoenn:

Add Mei Nakamura from Oldale. She's on her second circuit and looking sharper than last year. Her Shroomish evolved into Breloom and she's been tearing through early gym challenges.

  Reply from CompetitiveObserver:

  Good call. Adding her.

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

RE: Jason Cahill - I've been following this guy since the Sprigatito thing. His gym battle was actually really interesting tactically.

Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.

He sent out a RALTS first against Roxanne's Rock-types. Psychic vs Rock is neutral at best, and his Ralts is clearly undertrained. Everyone watching thought he'd made a rookie mistake.

But here's the thing: the Ralts used Double Team to build evasion, chipped away with Confusion, and actually forced Roxanne's Geodude to burn through PP before going down. Then the Sprigatito came in against a weakened team.

That's not luck. That's strategy. He sacrificed short-term advantage for long-term positioning.

  Reply from CompetitiveObserver:

Interesting. So he's thinking several moves ahead even this early.

  Definitely one to watch then.

  Reply from TacticalTrainer99:

The Ralts thing is actually really smart psychologically too. New Pokemon need battle experience to build confidence. By letting Ralts participate even in a bad matchup, he's developing her as a fighter, not just using her as a tool.

That kind of trainer tends to build very loyal teams. Watch for his Pokemon to punch above their weight class because they trust him completely.

  Reply from GymRatHoenn:

  Where's he headed next? Dewford?

  Reply from CompetitiveObserver:

Presumably. That's the standard route from Rustboro—ferry to Dewford, then Slateport, Mauville, etc.

I'll update when he gets his second badge.

Rusturf Tunnel Experiencing Delays Due to "Unusual Activity"

  Published: [Current Date]

Travelers between Rustboro City and Verdanturf Town are advised to expect delays when using Rusturf Tunnel. Local authorities have reported "unusual activity" in the area that has prompted increased security presence.

"We're asking trainers and civilians to exercise caution and report any suspicious behavior," said Officer Jenny of the Rustboro Police Department. "There's no immediate danger, but we're taking precautions."

Sources familiar with the situation suggest the activity may be connected to Team Aqua, the environmental activist group that has been increasingly visible in coastal areas over the past several months. Team Aqua representatives could not be reached for comment.

The Devon Corporation, which has mining interests in the tunnel area, has increased its own security presence. A Devon spokesperson stated: "We're cooperating fully with local authorities. The safety of travelers and workers is our top priority."

Trainers planning to use Rusturf Tunnel are advised to:

  • Travel in groups when possible

  •
  • Register their route with the nearest Pokemon Center

  •
  • Report any suspicious individuals or activities to authorities

  •
  • Avoid confrontation if encountering unknown groups

  •

Updates will be provided as the situation develops.

  Comments Section:

CoastalResident: Team Aqua again? They've been getting bolder lately. Saw some of their people near Slateport last week, handing out pamphlets about "ocean conservation." Seemed harmless but still creepy.

DevonEmployee_Anonymous: Can confirm security is tight at all Devon facilities right now. Something's going on that management isn't telling us.

SkepticalSam: "Environmental activists" lol. They're eco-terrorists. Remember what they did to that fishing operation near Dewford? Released all the catch, vandalized the boats.

Pokemon_Ranger_Hoenn: Official Ranger statement: We are monitoring the situation and coordinating with local law enforcement. Citizens should not attempt to engage with suspected Team Aqua members. Report sightings to the nearest Ranger station.

Anyone else think Team Aqua and Team Magma are going to clash soon?

  Posted by u/WeatherWatcher_Pokemon

Been following both groups for a while now. Team Aqua's been more active lately—the Rusturf thing, increased presence near Slateport, rumors of something big planned near Dewford.

But Team Magma's been quiet. TOO quiet. They were all over Mt. Chimney a few months ago, and now nothing.

My theory: they're both building toward something. And when they finally make their moves, it's going to be ugly.

  Anyone else getting bad vibes?

  Top Comment by u/HistoryBuff_Pokemon:

For those who don't know the background:

Team Aqua believes expanding the oceans will create a better world for Pokemon. They want to "return the world to its natural state" by increasing sea levels.

Team Magma believes expanding the landmass is the answer. They want to create more habitat by reducing ocean coverage.

Both groups have been around for years, but they've gotten more organized and aggressive recently. There are rumors they're searching for something—ancient artifacts or legendary Pokemon connected to their goals.

The old myths talk about Kyogre (ocean) and Groudon (land) being in eternal conflict. If either team actually found a way to awaken those legends...

Let's just say "ugly" would be an understatement.

  Reply by u/WeatherWatcher_Pokemon:

Yeah that's what worries me. These aren't just protesters anymore. They're true believers with resources and plans.

The League needs to take this more seriously.

  Reply by u/CasualTrainer_Hoenn:

I mean, legendary Pokemon are just myths right? No one's actually seen Kyogre or Groudon in centuries. Team Aqua and Magma might BELIEVE they can find them, but that doesn't mean they actually can.

  Reply by u/HistoryBuff_Pokemon:

That's what everyone said about the Lake Trio in Sinnoh before Team Galactic showed up.

Never underestimate true believers with funding.

  Reply by u/Pokemon_Ranger_Hoenn:

Without confirming or denying any specific concerns, I can say that the Ranger Corps and Pokemon League are aware of both organizations' activities and are taking appropriate measures.

Please do not attempt to investigate or confront either group on your own. Report any suspicious activity through official channels.

  Reply by u/WeatherWatcher_Pokemon:

"Appropriate measures" = sitting on their hands until something explodes

  Classic League response

From: Pokemon_Ranger_Hoenn (Ranger Commander Diana Reyes) To: Pokemon_Rangers_WesternHoenn Subject: Increased Monitoring - Routes 104, 116, Rusturf Tunnel

All Rangers assigned to Western Hoenn districts:

Effective immediately, increase patrol frequency along Routes 104, 116, and the Rusturf Tunnel corridor. We have confirmed Team Aqua presence in the area, purpose unknown.

Do NOT engage unless necessary. Observe and report. Priority is trainer and civilian safety.

Additionally, be aware of a trainer of interest: Jason Cahill, registered Littleroot, currently traveling with Ranger Candidate Hana Miyamoto. No suspicion of wrongdoing—Professor Birch has flagged him for observation due to unusual circumstances surrounding his registration. If encountered, note his location and activities but do not interfere with his journey.

Report any significant findings to Regional Command immediately.

  Stay safe out there.

Acknowledged. Will increase patrols in my sector.

RE: Jason Cahill - I've heard about him. The Paldean starter guy, right? What's the actual concern there?

  Reply from: Pokemon_Ranger_Hoenn

No concern per se. Just an unusual case that's drawn attention. Professor Birch is treating it as a research interest rather than a security matter.

The real priority is Team Aqua. Whatever they're doing at Rusturf, it's not good. Stay alert.

Thread: Mysterious trainer spotted heading to Dewford

  Posted by BrineyBoatWatch

Old Man Briney just ferried someone to Dewford who matches the description of that Paldean starter trainer everyone's been talking about. Young guy, early twenties, traveling with a female trainer (Ranger candidate maybe?), had a green cat Pokemon that DEFINITELY isn't from around here.

Guess we'll see how he does against Brawly.

  Reply from CompetitiveObserver:

Thanks for the update. Adding to my tracking thread.

If he beats Brawly as fast as he beat Roxanne, we might be looking at a serious dark horse for the Conference this year.

  Reply from Pokemon_Professor_Wannabe:

Still want to know the full story behind this guy. The amnesia, the Paldean starter, the rapid progress—something doesn't add up.

But I'll admit, I'm curious to see how far he goes.

  Reply from TrainerTommy_Pokemon:

I told you guys he was legit! Go Jason!
