Chapter 8: First Nightmare Conquered

  The struggle was over.

  Majito cleared his first nightmare.

It’s really such a surreal feeling.

The Nightmares were heralded as nothing less than hellscapes with the intention to make those afflicted with the nightmare spell fight for their survival, or die trying.

And he survived, albeit, by the hair of his chin.

Mahito thought his nightmare was particularly strange, even compared to the horror stories that he's heard throughout his short existence.

The first act of his own: the subjugation of that hideous abomination was straightforward as could be.

In retrospect, It really doesn’t make much sense for an awakened who hasn’t even awakened to kill a nightmare creature, let alone one of such a disproportionate rank contrary to oneself.

Perhaps the prerequisite of the nightmare in order to be able to complete it was not the might in which he expressed, but another quality.

That’s only conjecture as of now. Things became significantly more complicated once Mahito had consumed the flesh of the abomination after he was gravely wounded by the priest.

That also leaves him to ponder why exactly he didn’t feel any pain from such a foul blow.

Not to mention the strange visions of the powerful incarnation of a Vajira that he experienced before he drifted off into unconsciousness.

Not to mention the feeling of lucidity he felt drifting through them as if he was living out visions of a potential version of himself.

As of right now, it’s very hard to make out what exactly his nightmare was trying to convey to him.

Perhaps such things will unfold as the veil of time peaks its head as the events of the world capture its interest.

Now, onto the most important part following the completion of his nightmare.

To set the view, right now Mahito finds himself in an astral realm, a fit with interwoven strings of pure white light that seem to be interwoven intimately with one another.

One could assume that they are all connected through one thing, and that’s the nightmare spell.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

It seems like this is the universal hub that every 'awakened' visits after completing their nightmares.

It’s quite a cozy place, strangely.

The second most important aspect to mention about this place is that it’s the resting palace of the cold and melodic voice that encompassed Mahito’s mind briefly after completing his nightmare.

It had also uttered something shortly after bringing him into the astral realm he currently treads.

  [Appraising Results]

It shouldn’t be too much longer until he’s able to observe the fruits of his labor.

Coincidently, that thought leads us to this exact moment.

The voice whispered out in its almost incomprehensible serenade.

  [Appraisal Complete]

  Now, here come the results.

  [Nightmare Performance: Glorious!]

  !!!

Now that wasn’t an expected outcome for Mahito in regards to his accomplishments in the nightmare.

If he was to be truthful, he thought his performance in the nightmare wasn’t desirable at all. To put it bluntly, he considered it to be very poorly enacted in retrospect.

Despite his subjective dismay for his first run in with the nightmare spell, This outcome did reinforce the idea that Nightmares are not as straightforward as they seem.

The gradient in which the user is judged isn’t strictly based on physical feats of strength, but other factors as well.

  ‘Fascinating’

This is something that needs to be digested later.

It could prove very useful for the future in the conquest of future nightmares.

But let’s get onto the juicy part of the first nightmare, and that’s the awakening of the soul core and the acquisition of an aspect ability.

  [You have received an Aspect]

[You have received a True Name]

  ‘!!!’

  Now that’s a pleasant surprise

Snagging a True Name in general was already a huge accomplishment.

Let alone in your first nightmare.

Depending on what type of awakened Mahito ends up becoming, his tales would be regaled amongst awakened alike.

That is if he survives long enough to embark on such tales.

That’s where all of the rewards from his nightmare ended, unfortunately.

  He can’t be too mad.

His accolades now include a completion of his First Nightmare with the reward being a True name, and presumably powerful aspect ability.

‘Without further preamble, let us take a look to see what my Aspect is.’

  The only problem is….quite embarrassing

He didn’t know how exactly to do so.

‘Maybe think of a status window?’

Yea, like in one of those RPG’s that people love to play.

Humorously enough, that did seem to work

  Let’s see, Name….True Name….

  …..

  ‘!!!!’
